All this talk about P&P made me take the book today and read it in Latin before we sung. XD Now I want to watch the movie : )

Yeah, I was pretty tempted to skim. xD I made it through, though. But not without lots of whining to whoever would listen. xDD

it is quite terrible. XD but now i've seen phantom and want to read the book.
and it's amazing how many classics i haven't read. (most of them)
but i really want to read jane austen novels. for which, i can thank my friend emily. XD

Yeah, something like that. I don't recall, it could have been more.

One thing I'll warn you about with Austen books is that it can be a little difficult to follow at times. It's not hard to figure out what they're saying since they don't talk THAT differently, but if you're not used to it and you're tired or have been reading for a while, you may find yourself having absolutely no clue what's going on. xD; I saw the movie first, which helped me. But then again, I just have troubles with older books. If you generally don't, you probably won't have a problem with Austen.

yes, that was a "she's awesome" snort. XD

XD yes Celtic Woman are my fetish, I just love how their voices blend together so well. I use to have a concert tributing a composer with a bunch of people singing the songs he wrote but someone erased it. I love PBS speicals XD

@Cherry:: XD those poor people listening.

Austin would of been hard for me to read if I didn't read Great Expectations by Charles Dickson first. Being from the same era made it easier for me to get use to the writing style. That and, like you, I saw the movie first. : D

Immortaleyes 12-19-2008 08:57 PM

Well... I put Watership Down on hold. It's too wordy and too much to try and focus on it. I've started reading Elantris by Brandon Sanderson...I fully recommend it! It is amazing!

UGHGREATEXPECTATIONS.
I tried to read it a few months ago. It was mildly interesting but JUST. SO. SLOW. I had to force myself to read, and I didn't stay very interested. ><

Stormy1 12-19-2008 10:36 PM

lol Great Expectations was really good in the beginning but as it got closer to the end it slowed down a lot. Its just one of those books you read when its a slow day and you have nothing better to do.

tirethminet 12-19-2008 11:03 PM

@cherry - i have a gift to understand what people are trying to say. and i love reading british books. and i can deal with old-language pretty well. (shakespeare is about as far back as i can go without going completely nutters.)

@stormy - pbs is fun. XD
and i have great expectations and robinson crusoe, but i don't read them. my dad got them for me and i was just like "okay, thanks?" i don't read classics usually and if i'm going to read one, i need to want to read it, then psych myself up for it. x_x;;

PBS always has good stuff on it XD Yeah my mom wont buy me book unless I tel her exactly what to buy otherwise I wont read it. My dad doesn't bother hes like "books...um right...*runs into his room*" XD I like you, if i'm going to read a classic its going to be something I want to read and will get on my own. The only exception to that rule was Great Expectations, that I had to read for my adv. English 9 class and winded up liking it a lot. : D

you have to tell me if they're good. :]

general:
i really want to read pride and prejudice now. THANKS, GUYS. >_>;;;

I will let you know when I get through them.;)

Now I want to watch Pride and Prejudice but I can't because my best friend borrowed it about 3 weeks ago and hasn't returned it yet...

Cherry Who? 12-20-2008 04:30 AM

I'm sorry I brought up Pride and Prejudice, you guys. xD Now everyone wants to watch it.

I think I mentioned in another thread or two and the same thing happened. xD;

ohman. alice. i love her so much. XD

@shadow - please do. i keep spying my coworkers reading it and am all like "that looks pretty. i should read it" and then i forget pretty much as soon as it's out of sight. xp

@cherry - it has the same addictive pull as phantom.
without the musical parts eating your brain from the inside out. 8D

Cherry Who? 12-20-2008 06:13 PM

Yeah, I much prefer P&P since it doesn't drive you insane. xD
I mean, it makes you REALLY wish you had a Mr. Darcy, but not so much that you feel like knifing yourself. xD

shadowfoot 12-20-2008 10:26 PM

My friend borrowed a stack of movies from me and hasn't returned a single one. Wouldn't you know it, every movie that I have an urge to watch is one that she borrowed...sigh.

Cherry Who? 12-20-2008 11:19 PM

DDD: That sucks!
Ask her if she's watched any of them. Ask for the ones she has watched back.
Or ask for them all back and suggest she come over to your house to watch some of them sometime?

sukishine 12-20-2008 11:19 PM

Sounds like their's talk of Pride and Prejudice. I'm going to read that before the year ends. It's been almost three years since I last read it.
I've never seen the BBC version of it but I've wanted to for a long time. It can't be rented and I'll have to buy it online to get a hold of it.

I'm a little disappointed in myself that I won't reach my 50 book challenge this year but I have read 27 so far and that about 26 more than last year. >.>
Since it is Christmas break I plan on getting at least three more books in which should be no problem. Right now I'm on the third book of the Sevenwaters trilogy (Child of the Prophecy) by Juliet Marillier.

Stormy1 12-20-2008 11:24 PM

Thanks to Cherry and all the P&P talk I took it today while shopping with my mom. I winded up finishing it in the car ride : D

I feel so successful now. I have half of my books done. Only 20 more to gooo.

Now I have to finish Huck Finn before Jan.5th and answer all my discussion questions before midnight of the 5th (Blah, I hate discussing books I'm forced to read.)

tirethminet 12-20-2008 11:58 PM

@cherry - i always wonder how much more exciting it would be to live in history. (and have a mr. darcy) turn of the century whereabouts.
and then i realize that i would have nothing of the life force that keeps me from going completely insane. (internet and video games. XD)

@shadow - ask if you can sleepover and then when the rest of the house is asleep, kidnap them all back.

ps.
that's it. i plan to go to blockbuster soon and rent p&p.
or go to work and buy it. (and the book)
so i can watch it whenever this happens. XDD

Cherry Who? 12-21-2008 12:06 AM

Stormy - Wait, you read all of Pride and Prejudice in just a day or two? >.O
But it's so long! xD

Tire - Yeah. xD Forget living back then. I just want a hot guy in a waist coat and a cravat.

I swear, if I ever get married I will make the groom dress like Darcy. xD

Stormy1 12-21-2008 12:31 AM

@Cherry::: Oh gods no! I left off near 200 pages near the end some time ago (When ever I started Huck Finn for school). I finished what I had left today while waiting in the car. XD

Granted I can read fast and comprehend what was read but I'm not that fast >>

tirethminet 12-21-2008 12:35 AM

ohman. sexy waistcoat. <33
and they need an ascot and a top hat.
but wedding. brrr. creepy.
dani will understand.

Cherry Who? 12-21-2008 12:54 AM

Stormy - OH! xD Good. You were scaring me there. xDDD

Tire - Eh, I don't really like tophats. But cravats and waistcoats are yummy. I'm going to make myself a cravat sometime soon, once I figure out how. I know how it will look in my head, it's just a matter of figuring out how to make the lace work that way.

Stormy1 12-21-2008 01:01 AM

XDD sorry for the scare there Cherry. I guess I should of clarified what I ment.

tirethminet 12-21-2008 03:41 AM

@cherry - well, ofcourse the tophat would not stay on for long~
plus it would be a modest and normal one, not huge or anything. it's more the complete the image than anything else. XD
good luck with that cravat. lace is a bitch to work with. not as awful as satin, though.

ps.
i almost very nearly got the $40 special edition dvd of p&p, but i restrained myself. (it has a photobook and the ost)
i may get it after the holidays, though. once i get more paychecks. i'm already cutting into my savings acct to pay for xmas gifts. :[

FeyonaSaibre 12-21-2008 04:11 AM

I just picked up "The Skies of Pern" by Anne McCaffrey on tape but I don't know well that's going to go simply because.... I only have a tape player in the apartment... and i'm almost always playing with my son or on my computer, cleaning or doing other things when i'm home.

shadowfoot 12-21-2008 05:44 AM

@Tire and Cherry: That would be difficult. Her boyfriend lives with her, which is kind of a new situation, so I feel like I can't interrupt them just to get my movies back. I will probably try soon however...

*giggle*
Eh, I just don't really like tophats. I think they look kind of silly most of the time. Especially really tall ones.

Yeah. >< I was hoping to make something somewhat like this
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php...ng_id=17943981
But I kind of have no idea what I'm doing. I would have better luck if I could look that cravat over and see how it's sewn and stuff.
It LOOKS like it's two big, flat loops lined with a matching, solid fabric, and then just lace at the bottom.
(anyone who knows what they're doing and wants to offer me advice would be loved)

Well, I didn't mean like just barge into their house. xD Like, the next time you see her or something, mention that you kind of need them back.
