@Aislin: I actually had no idea but I'm glad I asked^^ And oh yes! Please do send me that (stupid question, how? Do you send it to my mail? Haha I've never had an e-book, blasphemy I know!) but yes, if it's in the same corner as Twilight I'd love to read it^^
As far as genres go, I'm definitely into vampire stories, though I'm also into informative books like Erich von Däniken and anything dealing with the supernatural or unexplained. I'm not really one to read books about the day to day normal life of a person, I have a very day to day life myself and it just seems uninteresting D: I'm also very down with werewolves, witches? Not so much but that's mainly because I have not found any good book about that and the only witches I ever liked were Tara and Willow from Buffy<3. I also like science fiction and fantasy, as long as it's unusual and offers an exciting plot I'll most likely inhale the book xD |

It is a lot of Mercedes Lackey. I tend to be obsessive with authors to the point that I have to get everything by them and she has a lot of books. Quote:
I always worry when I find a book that is a movie because I worry people only say it is good because of the movie. |
It's by Deborah Bishop--here. Absolutely wonderful book. :3 It actually gives you book recommendations! *laughs*
I picked it up at Big Lots because it looked interesting, and I'm so glad I did. Ehnvy: You realize you've opened a can of worms, don't you? (Speaking of, does anyone remember that movie? It was really freaky!) I recommend The Dark Light to anyone. It's a fabulous book. As Aislin asked, what kind of books do you like? :3 This might be a little difficult considering the language thing... EDIT: XD Oh, you answered that. Okay, if you like vampire books, you should definitely check out Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. It's a great book. One series I've always liked that you may enjoy is Daughters of the Moon. It's a bit younger, but I still really enjoy it. It's a pity you don't like slice-of-life books. Those are my favourites. :3 I love books about people going crazy, drug-addicts, suicidal teens, etc, etc. Makes me feel better about my own life. *laughs* I'm going to go scan my bookshelf for anything I think you might enjoy. |

This is the beginning of a wonderful friendship. :XD The Mercy Thompson books are here. In fact, I uploaded them for Lillith earlier! I'm glad that you're interested! With what you described, I think you'll really like them. Microsoft reader is here. @ Bishie: Oooh, slice of life books? Have you read Ned Vizzini's It's Kind of a Funny Story? An easy read, but I quite liked it... and the protagonist's artistic ventures/ (sounds dorky, I know) self-discovery was wonderful. @ Lillith: Don't worry! The books and movie are two separate, although equally wonderful, things. The salient point is that you read at least the first book. It's really funny, especially if you like non-sequitors. I'll upload them soon and send you the link. |
No, I haven't. owo I'll have to look those up.
I really like the Hopkins books. :3 It's so cool how she did those. Jenova: I never have any interesting dreams. I dream the same thing every night, and it's always unpleasant. Plus, when I'm asleep, I can't do anything. I can't write or clean or draw...I'm just lying there. ._. Might as well be dead. |
Bishie: have you read the book "Lucky: A Memoir" by Alice Sebold? It's about when the author herself was raped and police said she was lucky because she wasn't murdered and dismembered. It's a fascinating read, if you haven't.
|
Oh, I read the first chapter of that. It was really...horrifying. It's so vivid, and rape is my number one fear, so....:\ I've heard it's a really great book, but I was just never able to bring myself to read it.
|
I read it in high school for my psychology class. I think it'd be a good book to finish if you can stomach it past the first chapter.
|
@Aislin- I'm glad to hear that. That is usually how it is, but I still feel weird if I've seen the movie first.
That sounds great, thanks ^^ |
@ Jenova: I have to ditto Bish on the book by Alice Sebold. I was raised by a lone female for eleven years, occasionally spending a month or two with my dad in between. First lesson taught by single moms: nothing worse than rape.
Paranoid childhood. So any books that detail how to avoid/ survive that kind of thing, I can stomach. But even the opening of The Lovely Bones made me very upset; and I was in forensics, so I saw a girl act it. When I learn how to run a seven minute mile and use a taser, I may feel comfortable reading the book? If you think it's worth overcoming the feeling of "!!!", I may still try to read it. Have you read all of Alice Sebold's work? If later chapters find some way to... reconcile, I guess? the powerlessness, I might be able to do it. @Bishie: Hopkins? @Lillith: Yay! I hope you do like it. :) |
I really liked Lovely Bones.
|
Okies, I downloaded the 3 e-books and the Microsoft Reader, if anyone has anymore e-books let me know^^ It's not only saving me the trouble to go find something 'edible' in the library but it's also something new and exciting and totally cool, LOL.
Now I'm off to read all the responses I missed in here xD |
It's been a while since I've read it, but the rest of Lucky deals with how she lived with the fact that she'd been raped and her own concept of virginity (she was a virgin before being raped). Her rapist was put behind bars, but then her roommate was raped shortly after her own assailant was jailed.

Jenova: You've double posted quite a few times...if you want to add something to your previous post, use the edit button. :3 Mene is strict on that.
Aislin: Yeah, Ellen Hopkins. She wrote Crank, Glass, and Impulse. :3 Really great books. |

Hee! Erm... if anyone has anymore ebooks?.... *explodes into peals of giggles* As I said: good friendship, beginning of. The authors I have are listed at the end of my Book Challenge list. Let me know if you're interested in any of the authors I have listed there. @Lillith: You know, rape is one big worry that I have about college? Rates on college campuses are sadly high. So I intend to make best friends with many tall, buff gay men. And carry a bat. Sometimes I like the world not very much. The book sounds important, though. I'll add it to my list of things to read, and look into seeing if a friend has a copy. :( Quote:

@Jenova- huh, I had not heard that. I think I would prefer to keep that in the realm of printed words though.
@Aislin- I worry about that too. One more semester then I go off to a university. But I think I'm ok. Since I am a very tall, very grumpy, very weird girl. And I let everyone know that I carry lots of books in my purse. Lots of big hard back books. And that they are weigh more then bricks ^^ Though big gay guys always work too lol |
I keep forgetting that people on the internet in these avatar things are most likely in high school/ starting college...
Lillith & Aislin: Depending on the university, they offer services like driving you back to your dorm (or close to your apartment if you're just off-campus) and emergency call boxes that alert police once you've hit the button. They have tons of those on my university campus. I've been here for three years, and I'm still safe. :3 The less worried you are about it, and the more confidently you walk (and a little mace doesn't hurt), the less likely you are to be assaulted. |
Jenova... I take it that means you're out of highschool/university? Because I am too. ^.^

@ Jenova: Thank you for the tips! That will help. I have pretty good survival instincts, but I was pretty wowed by the statistics about dorms, which is why it's been on my mind.
I'm going to do my two year degree at a community college first, though, so I'll have time to get my bearings before taking the plunge. I turned 18 just in time to vote, this year, and I'm finishing my last year of high school. Quote:

Yeah... well I technically never went to Uni, but if I did I'd already be out. I'm the proud mother of an almost 2 year old. *nods*
