XD *laughs* Yeah, we're youngens.

I get nervous about rape just walking around. :\ I've already had two guys try it. The first guy ran the second he saw I had a cellphone in hand, and the second guy I kneed in the groin and took off. It was really scary.

I'm going to do my two year degree at a community college first, though, so I'll have time to get my bearings before taking the plunge. I turned 18 just in time to vote, this year, and I'm finishing my last year of high school.

Heh! I feel like a pipsqueak.

It's okay. I came to University when I was 17, so I'm not much older than you ;)
But don't let statistics scare you. Tour the campus and ask the students how safe they feel there. That's much better than some statistics that could have been manipulated merely to make a point.

Always carry some mace. One of my friends in my classes my freshman year always carried a taser. (it was pink)
I guess it also helps because I look an awful lot like a boy when I go out (I keep my hair tied, don't wear makeup, baggy clothes). I've also found that the confident strut helps to scare off would-be offenders a lot. Some guy tried to bother me at work (with these kind-of useless and wrong facts that I constantly corrected him on) and I just kept walking and escaped to an employee area. People are crazy.

Lilith W 12-28-2008 05:41 PM

@Jenova- I'm actually almost through my associates degree. Just going to a community college right now.
They even have those call boxes at community schools.
I worry about it, but less for me and more for my sister who is 4'11", and pretty. Though if someone messed with her the poor guy would end up in a hospital.
I was doing the same thing for awhile. Now I have 14 ^^
I can't see how people can take 20+ hours. They must never sleep.
What degree are you getting?
I'm going for elemetary education.

@Feyona- Aw, are you a mother of a daughter or son?

@Bishie- That is horrible.
I hope you really hurt the guy.

FeyonaSaibre 12-28-2008 05:43 PM

He's a boy... and he's such a cutie. Got long enough eyelashes to make any woman envious. He's got these big bright beautiful hazel eyes and dishwater blond hair.

Knerd 12-28-2008 05:47 PM

One thing I've never had to worry about in my school is rape. I feel comfortable walking around campus alone, at any time of day or night. The place is always lit up and the University Police patrol pretty often. We only have one blue light, but I don't think it's actually been used in years.

There was only one report of rape that I know of and it was a few years ago. The girl supposedly made the story up to get back and two men who were visiting her. There was a lot of pressure on her to take back the charges, so no one knows the full story, but she apprently had a history of calling rap at her previous school, too.

Bishielurfer 12-28-2008 05:47 PM

Feyona: XD Long eyelashes are bothersome. I have crazy long eyelashes, and my hair always gets caught on them, and they periodically poke me in the eye. The worst of it is that they're practically white, so when the sun hits them, it reflects into my eyes. It's terrible.
Lilith: ^^; I hope so too. He didn't chase after me, so I guess I hurt him enough.
Jenova: I wouldn't know where to get a hold of one...:\
I'm fairly small--5' 6", 125lbs--so I tend to be an easy target. I've started doing this thing where, if I see someone who makes me uneasy, I pull out my cellphone and either call someone or pretend to be talking to someone. People leave you alone if they think someone might hear them.
Knerd: That's horrible! I think it's disgusting when girls fake rape. It's terrible for the guy, and it makes it harder for woman who really have been raped.

Really? They have call boxes on Community campuses now? That's wonderful to hear!
Yeah, my roommate took 22 hours last semester 'cause he needed them to graduate. He rarely slept at all, because he was also working. This same roommate also had conversations with the television.
I'm getting a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts in Theatre Design. I go to IRDA next year. I'm excited/nervous.

Aislin 12-28-2008 05:49 PM

@ Bishie: I'm sorry! That's the sort of thing which upsets me. I've had some real creeps approach me, too, but I make a big point of traveling in groups whilst carrying weapons of opportunity. Still... it shakes you up for awhile, doesn't it?

@ Jenova: I'll try to follow that advice! A lot of the things you mention, I already try to do. Mace, though, is something I've been long overdue in purchasing.

@Feyona: Conratulations! Two is the perfect age, also. I babysit a lot of two year olds... they're still cute and playful, and have a lot of new things to learn. And then there's the potty training. That can be a nightmare, though. :P

You know, all of the boys I babysit have longer eyelashes than any of the women I know. It's funny when contrasted to the amount I spend on mascara.

@ Knerd: Ugh! That's terrible. Rape is such a horribly revolting offense that I don't think anyone should have it on their record who isn't guilty. That's true of any crime, really, but rape is especially bad.

I know that if I owned a business, that's one crime I'd discriminate against in hiring.

Of Mace? It's pepper spray and you can find it nearly anywhere nowadays. I think Walmart is the closest place to me that has it. A taser you're going to have to either go online or go to a specialty shop. I don't own a taser, but I do own very many pointy and blunt objects that hurt. Also, I regularly carry a multi-tool. You never know when you'll need a knife, scissors, screwdriver, metal file, saw blade, can opener, drill bit set.....

Lilith W 12-28-2008 05:57 PM

@Feyona- Aw, I bet he is a cutie.
My uncle and his sons all have super long lashes too.

@Knerd- That is great to have a really safe school.
It is horrible that girls do that kind of thing. *shakes head*

@Bishie- Good, he wants to do that kind of stuff he should be hurt.

@Jenova- Yep, my school has like 20 outside and has phones all over inside that call directly to campus police. Though they are hardly ever used since our school is pretty safe.
Ek.. 22 hours. I would die.
That is a great major. Good luck ^^
I'm taking off for SIUC.

Bishielurfer 12-28-2008 06:01 PM

Jenova: I'll have to pick one up, then. I've never seen any mace in the stores around me, though. owo
Aislin: Yeah...I wouldn't walk anywhere for several months. I made someone drive me. :\

Jenova4 12-28-2008 06:01 PM

@ LillithW: Yeah, when he said he was taking 22, that's what I said. And I was doing 19 at the time. Thank god I somehow managed to pass them all though, I have a 3.87 GPA and school eats up my life when it's in session. What's SIUC?

@ Bishie: If you have a debit card here's a website to get Mace. Link for Mace Keychain That's what the package normally looks like too, so you can spot one when you're walking around in a store.

You should write a review when you get to the end of Jennifer Government.
I wonder how many of us you've converted to Barry, now?

Yeah. I usually stop what I'm doing if someone's talking to me. But sometimes I'll get an IM while my mother's talking to me and I'll glance at the IM, then type up a reply and then realize I have no idea what my mom's talking about. xD;

I might just do that. I'm nearly finished with it. I'll probably finish it today. I'm liking it more than Syrup.

Bishielurfer 12-28-2008 06:08 PM

Jenova: Oh, thanks so much. :3 I'll make sure to get one soon.

XD Wow, I'm rocking out to the Ghostbusters song. That's...pretty sad.

Actually, I always carry a utility tool on me all the time too. It's what has made my best friend and I feel safe when we end up out late at night; and it was once really reassuring when we were approached by a very creepy old man.

Incidentally, were you ever a theatre tech?

@Cherry: More than Syrup? Fantastic! It must be really good. My sister read it and adores it too.
(She read it after she read Syrup, which I recommended to her after having read it on your recommendation. :P)

@Bishie; That's another thing that upsets me about having to address those worries! I'm very independent, and I walk everywhere. I don't want to give up my independence.

I'm learning how to drive soon, after years of avoiding it, mostly because I've had too many close calls when all of my friends and I were out in a group. I don't mind so much when it's me, because my mom taught me how to handle myself... but I worry about my friends especially, and we go out at night a lot. They don't always pay attention to what's around...

Make sure you keep safe!

I'm gonna respond to everyone's posts really quickly, and then head off on an adventure with my best friend. I'll see you all later on!

Funny you ask because my major is Theatre Design and I work tech events at my school. XD

Lilith W 12-28-2008 06:14 PM

@Jenova- Your doing better then me. I have some where around a 3.2 GPA. College eats up my life. I go to school and work there so it doesn't matter if school has a break or not.
It is in southern IL

Jenova4 12-28-2008 06:16 PM

@Lillith: Well, I also work at the school and I work at a theme park. It's my only day off for a while...and I'm going to the park I work at XD It's hard having to live from paycheck to paycheck and off of loans :( Even though I have a stellar GPA, I still have to pay tons of money for school.

I'm working on that too, but sadly I had classes that ended at around 10 at night so any friends I made were long gone. I wish my college had emergency call boxes other then 50 yards into parking lots. It's like 'Oh lets put these call boxes out here so that if anyone's getting assaulted over there - by the buildings or by all those trees and bushes that are in camera blind spots - all they have to do is run a football field length really fast.'

Not that my school has issues with rape, just more or less stupid people who should never have gotten into college doing stupid stuff to the people who want to learn.

Bishielurfer 12-28-2008 06:20 PM

Aislin: I finally got my license, so I drive everywhere. xP I'm actually going to join a gym because I've gained weight since I stopped walking everywhere.
Dream: XD It is! That movie scared me so much when I was younger. I haven't seen it in a while, though.

That might be where all the mascara thing started at... if we wanted to look more appealing to men, we make our eyelashes look like theirs... *shruggs* I dunno. But he is cute and playful and potty training IS a nightmare.. We've already had to strealize his room once because he got into his diaper and smeared it all over his toys... *cries*

Lilith W 12-28-2008 06:24 PM

@Jenova- Oh, what theme park do you work at?
I'm really luck because of my ACT score my time at the community college is free ^^

Well I have to go for a bit.
I'll be back in awhile.

Jenova4 12-28-2008 06:28 PM

I work at Busch Gardens. It's a lovely place. =3
I've tried to get into being a technician for the park regularly, but I have yet to get there permanently.

Spring`Tyme Fresh 12-28-2008 06:29 PM

Hey guys.

I'm just wondering if any of you have read The Various by Steve Augarde? I think it's classed as a Children's book but I was given it for Christmas and thought I'd see if anyone has read it. ^^

Bishielurfer 12-28-2008 06:30 PM

Bye, Jenova! ^^ I'm probably going to run off, too--need to take a shower.
