MurasakiCrown 01-07-2009 01:15 AM

I don't buy books anymore if I haven't heard things about them (or if I have to) so I don't have a pile of books.. I have them in my head only XD

Dream_and_Die 01-07-2009 01:24 AM

I have a list only because of an application of facebook. xD

MurasakiCrown 01-07-2009 01:59 AM

LOL! That sounds like a neat application. I don't go on facebook enough, though. XD

Dream_and_Die 01-07-2009 02:07 AM

I don't go on much either but the application lets you keep track of books you've read, want to read, and are currently reading. Plus whether you own, borrowed, or want books. It's really helpful.

Stormy1 01-07-2009 02:51 AM

Shelfari might help you keep track of books that you've read, want to read, and are currently reading as well. It's a really neat sight, you have your own bookshelf that holds everything, you can review the books even and look at other peoples shelf.
(Heres my shelf if anyone wants to know what it looks like before getting an account --> http://www.shelfari.com/o1517969173 )

Knerd 01-07-2009 03:05 AM

I like to use LibraryThing.com, so I can keep track of all the books I own and separate them into the ones I've read and the ones I haven't touched yet.

Whoa wait. I just got this. I started Firebirds after you left, aren't you still on The Graveyard Book? :poke:

@Stormy: I just set up a Selfari account. I still need to add the books I already read, but I think I'll do that tomorrow.

tirethminet 01-07-2009 05:58 AM

shelfari! i did it. now i just need to go through and add all the info.
and the front page picture of librarything made me laugh. the most noticeable title is "THE LUSTY LADY." XDDDDD

dani. why are we such book geeks that we need multiple applications to keep track of them?
and. but. i saw firebirds rising. GAAHHHH.
yes i am. no attention span, remember?
also, i am reading love com 10 right now. 8DDD! (and keep finding similarities between my life and the story. o_o)
and because i want to read two at once to keep my book list here not halfified, should i read wild rock again or pretty poison that i got from that luvluv publisher at otakon?

i need to find tea and coughdrops. T_T
but first imma find mommy to get them for me.

Melissa 01-07-2009 06:07 AM

heheh I love shelfari I've been on there for a while now.
Here's my shelf if anyone is interested.
http://www.shelfari.com/melissahall/shelf

I just started my new list and I added my first book of the new year, The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs.
I couldn't put the book down the whole day. It was so phenomenal. It's on my list of all time favorite books. I laughed I cried...and I cried some more.
It was the best book to start off the new year with.

tirethminet 01-07-2009 06:27 AM

for some reason, friday night knitting club really doesn't appeal to me. even though there's knitting in there. let me know how it goes for you, though.

ps.
mommy was asleep so i found the cough drops and made two portions of tea so i could just warm one up in the microwave if i need more in the middle of the night. :]

pps.
can someone explain to me why the wireless has almost no connection on my mac when it's at the head of my bed, but when i put it at the foot, it has full bars.
also, BAHAHAHA kohori totally looks like a punk hiei. you know, without the third eye. teehee.

ppps.
i just can't hate rpattz anymore.
Quote:

And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that's how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he's a 108-year-old virgin so he's obviously got some issues there.
full article here
also this contains a list meant for giggles abound.
i'm even giggling like a schoolgirl, but mostly because actually laughing will make me cough more. D:

pppps.
KAT. I HAVE DR. HORRIBLE SONGS FLUTTERING IN MY HEAD.
they won't go away even when i'm trying to distract myself with something else.

Bishielurfer 01-07-2009 07:38 AM

XD That's amazing, Tireth...I hate Edward, too.

tirethminet 01-07-2009 10:37 AM

i love finding twilight hate. because it's all very true. XD

and because i can't help myself, i will link to most of what the first article links to.
i have nothing better to do at three in the morning and my coughing is keeping me awake.

this slideshow also includes condoms!
Quote:

In the movie, vampires make an unnecessary but awesome whooshing sound when they jump around.
just in case everyone forgot, cleolinda is made of awesome and hilarity. (WARNING: link contains SPOILARS!! because, well, if i've managed to read all four by now, you should be nearing the end, too.)

EDWARD: (Laughs) Did you just see that? I sprinted to the end of these mossy rocks and back in less time than you took to say badonkadonk.
i think that maybe, i am done for now.
while i go cough up a lung because i don't feel like making another pot of tea tonight. :<

Aislin 01-07-2009 12:08 PM

*surfaces*

@ Leenie: I love your Twi-Hate, and it makes my life shine. I especially liked the reference in that earlier article to Edward "casually tearing boulders apart with his toes." Genius line of parody. :XD

@Bishie: I missed you! Sorry about disapparating for the end of the event. I have lots of fun real life news, though... :)

Congrats on your laptop!
It sounds angelic…. I’m drooling over the concept of that much space on a hard drive….

@Kita: We should start a support group! I'm from the fanfiction corner of the Potterverse as well (don't write it, though, for reasons you aptly described)... it's difficult to admit in public!
I think you'd like Anelli's book, then. You'd catch a ton of the references to things that happened in fandom over the years. I squee'd like a little girl. ^.^

It also has new Rowling interviews.
If you have fanfic that you're not shy about, I'd like to read it!

@ Cherry: Yay for your new list! Add me to your “read Max Barry” pile of people. :)
I absolutely adore your to read list. The Kurt Cobain journals… I have them, and the opening page made me feel guilty for reading to begin with. His mind, though, is more than worth delving into. I also like your Austen and Golding plans. =o>

You can find Austen for free online.

Also… your Potter books... the attic? Blasphemy! :insane:

@Shadowfoot: Your town sounds like a cool sort of anachronism.
Congratulations on the bookstore!
When is it open for business?

*vanishes again*

FeyonaSaibre 01-07-2009 01:08 PM

Figures that I'd have to read right as people started talking to me... XP~

@Dream ~ I know how you feel... I STILL haven't finished the one I'm on but it's because I keep picking up about 6 of them at once... >.>

@Kat ~ Yeah, I did make a thread about it... but it was when I first started reading "The Zombie Survival Guide" and I had yet to even touch "World War Z". I don't think I have it on my subscribed threads though... ^.^; And I have a bad habit of not checking threads unless I'm subscribed to them...

@Knerd ~ "The Zombie Survival Guide" is a little more cut and dry than "World War Z". Basically it's what it says it is.... a survival guide for Zombies. It tells you the best places to build a fortress, how to become your own self-sufficient community should the worst happen, how the zombie senses things in what seems like a real enough explination for how they behave and has lots of other useful information for surviving the undead. WWZ on the other hand, is actual survivor accounts from the "zombie war" that was supposed to have happened. They've got everything from politicians to movie stars to blue collar workers and people from all countries and ethnicities. It's interesting hearing how each person survived and what they did to help support or destroy the war effort. The doctor's account at the beginning is one of my favorite, but I don't ruin anything for you. XD

@Minet ~ I know you're not trying to... I guess I'm just not saying interesting enough stuff... I myself am also guilty about not posting when a topic doesn't interest me... >.> So I understand. I've actually been TRYING to read... LOL. I've got a full 40 hour a week job and an even more full-time job taking care of my son. (Who will be 2 years old on the 24th of this month *squee!* He's getting a pirate-themed party!) I read when I can which is usually when I'm at work because if I read while I'm at home either my son gets ignored or the housework does... ^.^; I suppose I could read when he goes to bed but then I would never have time to watch movies and stuff with my boyfriend.... after my son goes to bed is usually the time that my BF and I have to spend together.

I really loved World War Z (read my responce to Knerd) and I think if you're a zombie freak you would too. I'm usually very anti-zombie but we are drawn to the things we dislike sometimes... They're actually coming out with a movie for it in 2010. There's not even a season set for it yet as far as I've been able to tell. But my boyfriend and I are DEFINATELY going to go see it together. >.>

MurasakiCrown 01-07-2009 05:14 PM

Tireth:.Those are sooo funny XD

Oh, and the slideshow... I agree with just about everything. Especially that they gave the teenagers some actual personalities. I loved that.
And the picture of Edward and the deer made me lol uncontrollably.

I shall!

Yeah, seriously! Same thing happened to me. I opened the book and then was like ".....oh... I'm... sorry... >>" I mean... it's reading a dead guy's journal which he didn't want anyone to read... It... I feel bad. D: But at the same time, the stuff he writes is funny and insightful.

Yeah, I've not yet been brave enough to read the Austen books. xD Pride and Prejudice is the only book of hers that I've read, and I think I would have had some trouble with it had I not already seen the movie a hundred times. Cultural differences really throw me for a loop. >.< Even if they're not speaking THAT differently, everything is just different so you have to focus a lot more.

Oh really? Well, usually I read to get away from the computer. But that's still nice to know. ^^

I haven't read them in a long time. ^^; And I'm probably not going to.

Melissa 01-07-2009 06:25 PM

tireth - actually the knitting is a small roll in the book. It's mostly about these women and them finding friendship in each other.

KatMagenta 01-07-2009 07:07 PM

Tireth: Maybe the Dr Horrible songs have gone now? It is a brand new day. =P

Twilight just isn't my cup of tea but I find the reaction to it hilarious. Me and my friend had an msn argument about which one of us Edward loved more, and spent an entire evening laughing at the spaztastic reviews on amazon. I just saw an advert that said 'What's your Twilight IQ?'. Eh?

Feyona: Heh, well on my next trip to the library I'll see if they have the books so I can read them properly. I used to suscribe to every thread I ever posted in, but I've got it down to the ones that I post a lot in. ^^

Melissa: Shelfari looks fun, thanks for pointing it out. I've signed up and will probably spend the rest of time I'm supposed to revising for A2 just adding books. XD

I keep my list in my mysapce blog and you can have 'currently reading' instead of just saying what music you're listening to.

FeyonaSaibre 01-07-2009 07:23 PM

I tend to completely miss threads if I don't subscribe to them... and it was really bad at first because it took me like a WEEK to figure out how to subscibe and I was too silly to ask... >.>;

Katneko 01-07-2009 07:27 PM

This sounds like so much fun! I believe I'm going to join in. : D

Books so far:
Vampire Knight vol. 5 [Jan 2]
The 9 Lives vol 1 [Jan 3]

KatMagenta 01-07-2009 07:32 PM

Feyona: As soon as I found the option that subscribes to every thread you post in I turned it off. I used to be subscribed a to a lot of threads in Books or Media that might get two posts in a month. :/

Katneko: Welcome! It looks like you've made a good start already. ^^

Shelfari has taught me I've read and own a silly number of Terry Pratchett books. >.<

FeyonaSaibre 01-07-2009 07:35 PM

I've got a lot of Terry Pratchett books too...lots I still haven't even read yet and I think i'm going to make a run for it as soon as I get done with the books I've barrowed from the library... ^.^;

tirethminet 01-07-2009 08:05 PM

ohgawd. you guys have to read this comment about how twilight is going to save today's youth from lesbians. i thrashed about my bed in laughter.

and again, cleolinda makes for giggles. (a few comments down. she has the icon of galadriel.)
Quote:

Because I've spent half the manuscript clapping my hands like a seal, seriously.
just read it.

@aislin - oh good you read it. now you can see my hilarity.

@feyona - OOH A BIRTHDAY PARTY. WITH PIRATES!! happy early birthday for him, i guess? :3
and now i must read world war z and the zombie survival guide.

@cherry - actually, i think it was in an interview with him for empire magazine, sooo i guess it's true?

@melissa - and that's probably why i don't want to read it. i don't handle really emotional stuff well.

@kat - nope. still there. though thanks for changing it to brand new day. it was the bad horse songs and a man's gotta do before. x_x
reading the twilight series is worth it just to understand the hilarity reactions.

ps.
i can't find my gummy lifesavers. WHERE DID THEY GOOOOO?? T_T
only i can lose a bag of food in a room as clean as mine it right now. (don't check my closet, though.)

pps.
cleolinda does it again! she is my hero. (this is a summary of breaking dawn, so obviously, spoilers abound)

MurasakiCrown 01-07-2009 08:35 PM

I finished The Host! I really enjoyed it. ~

Better go update my list now o_O

FeyonaSaibre 01-07-2009 08:38 PM

Yeah... pirates... >.>

I love all the twilight links you're posting... I'm still going through that conversation about them turning Edward into a 40 year old housewife.. *giggles* oh the HILARITY!
