Same! I went to two Barnes & Noble to try to find the third book, but neither of them had it. D':
|
There's a book of short stories out by Garth Nix, called Across the Wall, that includes a story set in the Abhorsen universe.
|
Yeah, I've heard of that, but I'd like to finish the last book in the series before reading it since there may be spoilers in it. =/
|
Wow awesome idea, and just in time for the new years~ This will be my official post on this thread!
1.) Twilight Vol 1 Yet to be started |
Nuuuuuuuuuuu!
D< I will destroy Twilight.... I'm almost finished with Farenheit 451. DX It's been so hard to find time to read these past few weeks... |
@jenova - i know, it's just like, thank GOD he's getting out soon, but obama is going to have so much shit to deal with. :[
@muffin - yay abhorsen. you know you can ask the people at b&n to order books for you. that's what they're getting paid to do. XD and you might want to fix your dates. just take out the "2" from both dates and you'll be dandy. :] there are spoilers of abhorsen in across the wall. at least the first story. i think. it's been a while since i read it. @[email protected] @sharpie - welcome! and your very first book has betrayed the unspoken rule about the book-that-must-not-be-named. don't worry, it's a joke with us. we're not haters! well, not flamers, at least. D: though bishie might cry if one more person mentions it. @bishie - i think, maybe, it's just too much to ask for to not mention twilight. XD you think you have a hard time reading. i haven't read much of anything (except my new comics) in the past few days. it's bothering me, but i just have no will to read right now. i would rather watch robert downey jr. be made of awesome. (iron man and tropic thunder.) ::is made of so much fail, it hurts:: |
@ Bishie - I loved that book. I loved it forevers.
Now back to proper english - Ray Bradbury can write books for me anyday. @tireth - It's funny, because Inauguration Day is also Mene's birthday, so it's like the best birthday present ever. |
@tirethminet: Oops. Thanks for telling me.
And yeah, I know I can order it, but I was in Florida on vacation at the time so I wanted to order if need be in my own state. I'll probably just end up going to Borders, though, being I like them better. =] |
I've only ever READ Farenheit 451 out of Ray's books...but I have one other I have yet to pick up.... >.>;
|
I've read all the Abhorsen books. Our high school library has them and they were gooood. I finished them all my freshman year. 4-5 years ago xD
|
tireth: Chapter 5?! xD
I'm almost finished. :P Lol, I just checked, I'm on chapter 45. Ooh ooh ohh! I bought some new books today! Granted they're all Jane Austen: Emma, Mansfield Park and Sense and Sensibility. ^^ My "To Read" list is getting big now and my book shelf is looking quite full xD I'm proud of myself. :) |
@Leenie: Wait, what job do you think I have? xD I was talking about when I work at the auto mechanics (Yay for smelling like gasoline and oil!). All I do is pick up the phone so I get to read.
Iron Man yay! You know he has the same phone as me. XD @Delusional: You'd be amazed how many people don't look at publishing dates, they think that if books aren't famous they all pop out at once and if it's on a shelf then it came first. Garth Nix is amazing. I know I bought Sabriel from scholastics at my grade school, which means that was a long time ago. xD I had a book bag with a single front strap and I turned it into the bell holder, or I should say I had my mom turn it into the bell holder for me. |
I want to do a Sabriel costume sometime. I loved all the bells.
|
I enjoyed Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy, but the rest of his writing has never impressed me. The Ragwitch was downright horrible, and Shade's Children was nothing o write home about.
I think that he invested so much time and energy into one fantasy world that he was never able to recreate that kind of magic. |
Woo hoo! I finished another one! <3
|
I liked Shade's Children and Ragwitch though...well, Shade's Children moreso than Ragwitch.
Knerd, have you ever read any of Philip Pullman's books? That man can WRITE. |
@Jenova: I used for pencils and calculators and stuff. I used to wonder why I was picked on in grade school. I think I know why now. xD
@Knerd: Ragwitch was a little bad, and I read Shade's Children before I read His trilogy so I can't really judge that one. His Keys to the kingdom Series is okay, I got bored somewhere in Mister Monday... Though I do like The Seventh Tower series, I haven't read all of it yet but so far I'm not bored. Did you know if you go on his site, Ragwitch and Shade's Children aren't listed under his books section? Maybe he's afraid to let people know he wrote them? |
I liked Shade's Children, but it was a little childish.
Oh Oooh, you know who else can write? Neil Gaiman. Coraline is a lovely little book. It's sitting on my shelf right now. They're making it into a movie. I don't know how to feel about it yet. |
I think that I was just a little old by the time I read Shade's Children. I'd probably have a better opinion of it if I had found it a few years earlier. So yes, "childish" is probably just the right word for it.
No, I've never read anything by Pullman, but I know I should. He's one of the authors that I just never seem to have time to get around to. |
*Sits in a corner and throws confetti up in the air for herself because no one else is helping her celebrate her success.*
|
@ Feyona - Ooh! Sorry
*Throws confetti to celebrate another book finished by Feyona* |
Woo Hoo! *gets out a pirate shaped party hat and gives to to Jenova, also puts one on herself* XD Who else wants to celebrate? <3
|
@Feyona: ::throws confetti:: Sorry! I was to lazy to edit. I want a pirate party hat! What book did you finish?
|
This is a really awesome idea. I never thought to aim for a certain number, and I love to read!
This is definetly something I'm going to do now. |
@Dream ~ *Hands her a pirate party hat and passes out noise makers.* Another One Bites the Dust by Jennifer Rardin. It was actually the 2nd in the series and it was the first I ever picked up... but I liked it so much I bought the first one. *nods*
@(Glam)Cricket ~ That's the same way I was... I love reading but I never thought to keep track. This will hopefully help me finish things faster too. ^.^; |
