Is this for books read during a single year, or books read over our lifetime?
I'm fairly certain I've read more than 50 books. It might be interesting to list them sometime and see.

FeyonaSaibre 01-15-2009 08:20 PM

During a single year. ^.^

Guivre 01-15-2009 08:37 PM

@GrannyJ -- you should really try Shelfari.com to see how many books you've read, they add up fast.

KatMagenta 01-15-2009 10:06 PM

Tireth: 11 shares my attitude to life! Thanks for the link, I was aware of the original lolwho but I didn't know there was a whole community. I was practically crying at Random Shoes today (shh, I know that's Torchwood).

Comics are snazzy. I moved on to more classic comics from Sandman and Lucifer. I have The Saga of the Swamp Thing to start tonight, and whenever my dad brings a new X-men book home he has to fight me for it.

Jenova: I'm hoping the Coraline film gets a full release, I remember it only being short when I was poking about looking at it. Maybe after that someone can finally fund the Good Omens film. *lives in hope*

Knerd 01-15-2009 10:40 PM

I'm excited about the Coraline film, but most movies tend to skip past my town. We aren't exactly a thriving metropolis. :XD

I'll just have to wait until I can get the DVD.

shadowfoot 01-15-2009 10:46 PM

I'm kind of looking forward to the movie adaptations of Inkheart and the City of Ember. At least they should be entertaining...

Knerd 01-15-2009 10:51 PM

The only problem I can see with Inkheart is that Brendan Fraiser is starring in it.
I have nothing against the guy himself, but the films his acts tend not to be taken very seriously. He's often used as a bad kind of comic relief.

Ah, but he has been in many serious movies where he played serious roles: School Ties, The Passion of Darkly Moon, Gods and Monsters, Crash, With Honors, The Air I Breathe, and on stage in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Other actors acknowledge him, but most of the public only knows him from movies like The Mummy...
Hopefully the director will let him act without adding that comic relief...

Cherry Who? 01-16-2009 12:25 AM

I started work on that GED Study Guide that I mentioned previously. I took a pre-test thingy for the english portion and aced it. :D Two out of 25 were incorrect. And my mom could only find three small errors with my essay.

Just knowing what his acting is like and the fact that it is going to be a kids movie, it will probably not be taken completely seriously. Granted, I haven't read the book yet, but it is currently "In Transit" to my library. ^-^

Dream_and_Die 01-16-2009 01:06 AM

Inkheart was a really good book, a lot of the characters had traits that only die hard readers will understand. xD I actually made friends because of that book. During legends class in high school someone flipped out when they saw me reading it and we've been friends since. ^_^

Jenova4 01-16-2009 02:08 AM

Oh I loved Inkheart! I still have the old cover without Brendan Fraiser's face on it.

tirethminet 01-16-2009 02:39 AM

i apologize, but you guys talk SO FREAKING MUCH, as do i. x3

@jenova - awesome. and i'm still not sure exactly what day it is. XD
(i am the worst at keeping dates. if my computer didnt say, i would be like IS IT FEBRUARY YET?)

oh, goodness. i want to make the bandolier.
... crap. now i want to take that metalsmithing class at the community college. so i can make the bells.
crap. classes full. NEXT SEMESTER.

neil gaiman, yessss. he is my god.
you should be excited about the movie. henry selick (director of nightmare before christmas) has got his sticky fingers in it, so you know the stop-motion is going to be awesome.
and neil seems to be supporting it whole-heartedly, so it's not going to completely maul the actual story. (the changes they have made though, he's approved. like calling mr. bobo, mr. bobinski. and adding a friend to tag along with coraline so she's not talking to herself. XD)

@muffin - <3 we don't care how far you are in the future, as long as you don't give us spoilers.
no! don't go to the dark side! if you must, find an independent book seller.
:x (i work for b&n. XD)
though borders does have awesome deals on manga. damn. ;_;

@jessie - i finished them many years ago. either middle school or freshman year. 4-5 years ago, as well. XD
i'm reading them again, though. well, trying to, at least. @[email protected];;;;

@springy - D:! i feel. sad. movies have distracted me from quality reading time.

@dani - oh. i didn't know you were working at the garage, i thought the job was the video job with the boe.
and i know. i saw that and went "HEY HE STOLE DANI'S PHONE. only not cause it doesn't have the danglies. and all the scratches. <3

@knerd - your not-there avatar is totally freaking me out right now.

@feyona - CELEBRATION TIME.

@kat - you are welcome. :3 i love to share the joy of hysterics with others.
random shoes did make me cry. i have eugene's ending speech, though, in my quotes on facebook. XD ::permanently going to be labelled as a dork::
mmm, classics. i feel that i am going to get collected volumes of old ones since i went to see if they had any of the old sandman single issues, and they do, for, like, $50 (about £35). maybe i can ask for it as a birthday present. XD (although, i would love the ultimate sandman editions. @[email protected])
recommend comics for me! i'm superhero/fantasy genre, not so much excitement on swamp things. x3
i believe it will get a full release. at least here. D: it's even getting 3D release.
... good omens film. 8DDD ::hopes for the best:: although i don't think that one will be very awesome animated.

@shadow - i want to see inkheart (and of course read the book. D: ), but the city of ember was an excellent movie, despite many differences from the book.

@cherry - ... damn, woman. you're a beast.

Jenova4 01-16-2009 02:41 AM

Oh god, I almost don't want to admit it, but
At work, they had this box of romance novels. And I took some home.
I opened one up (I did not take them for reading, I took them to put into prop storage)
and like a drug, I can't stop reading the damn thing. It's like a leech.

jessieomer 01-16-2009 02:57 AM

If only they had Supernatural as a whole series of books. I would love digging into some Dean reading. -shoots self xD-

Dream_and_Die 01-16-2009 02:59 AM

@Jenova: I have the old cover to! But mine has a little thing in the corner saying "Now a motion picture!" but it's not a sticker, its printed on. It's weird because I bought the book years ago... Slow post production anyone?
Yes, Romance novels are leeches. They suck out your soul forcing you to read more. Yet they are, a guilty pleasure. No one wants to admit reading them yet everyone reads one eventually. ::shakes fist:: They know the printed word is our weakness!

@Leenie: My phone is scratched because I go to far to many concerts. xD
Yeah I fill in at the garage, I did apply for the videographer position. That interview was crazy scary. He is one very large man. I felt so tiny, and I'm not short and I was in four inch heels. @[email protected]

Darn you spell check, videographer is to a word!

jessieomer 01-16-2009 03:01 AM

@Dream: OMG i am so guilty of reading romance novels and daydreaming that it was myself in those books. I dunno. I guess a lot of people are romantic at heart and that is why they eventually have to read at least one romance novel.

Dream_and_Die 01-16-2009 03:15 AM

@jessieomer: I haven't caved fully yet. I only read author who is a "Romance" writer, and I only like her because even though its romance the snogging and the "sweetly whispered words" take a backseat to a pretty good plot and some nice action. Plus it's got a nice fantasy vibe going on.

jessieomer 01-16-2009 03:17 AM

=o sounds interesting do tell me more. Im more of a sucker for fantasy novels than I am for horror. -pulls popcorn from the air and eats it-

Dream_and_Die 01-16-2009 03:31 AM

It's the Lords of the Underworld Series by Gena Showalter. Its influenced by Greek mythology. This is what's on the site:
Quote:

In a remote fortress in Budapest, six immortal warriors - each more dangerously seductive then the last - are bound by an ancient curse that none has been able to break. When a powerful enemy returns they will travel the world in search of a sacred relic of the gods - one that threatens to destroy them all.
Basically its about the six immortals who were warriors for Zeus but felt betrayed when Zeus chose Pandora to guard the box full of demons. So they broke it, releasing the demons and now as punishment they are cursed by the gods and each must harbor a demon within them. Violence, Disease, Death... etc. Each book in the series is about a different immortal and his struggle to be free from the curse or at least satisfy his demon.

That's really not a spoiler because you learn it within the first 20 pages or so, but I wanted to be safe.

I liked it a lot because nothing remotely "adult" came up till over halfway through the first book. xD Not that stuff like that bothers me, but I prefer it as a plot device rather then. "Hi! Lets shag!!"

Also, I love Fantasy. I almost can't read anything else. Almost.

tirethminet 01-16-2009 03:36 AM

@jenova - OHNO, THE ROMANCE NOVELS ARE EATING YOU.

@jessie - supernaturalwhatdean? @[email protected]

@dani - hotdamn, wilson is that tall? DDD8!! i never noticed.

showalter. let me borrow them. :3

jessieomer 01-16-2009 03:37 AM

Oh wow that sounds really great. I so want to read it now x.x

on the other hand I'm getting Death Note Volume 2 coming in the mail.

@tirethminet- Supernatural is a Tv Show on the CW with Jensen Ackles as one of the lead characters whose name is Dean.

Alaunt 01-16-2009 03:41 AM

Well, I'm goin' to be starting a book called Ghost of Spirit Bear. It's a sequel to Touching Spirit Bear that I found to be really good. They made a movie out of it, but I'm not sure I want to watch it for fear of being disappointed . . .

Dream_and_Die 01-16-2009 03:48 AM

@Leenie: I know! He's like six-one at least, and so built. @[email protected] I never stood next to him before.

@jessieomer: Deathnote won't take to long to read. xD
They're really good. I can't wait because the next book is coming out between May and September. (Why can't they decide? Please be May!!)

Which is really confusing at first because he acts alongside a guy who played a character named Dean on a DIFFERENT TV show. >>
