I enjoyed it - it was a really interesting take in a familiar fairy tale

Cherry Who? 02-06-2009 03:46 AM

My mom has Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. Maybe I should add to that to my To-Read pile.

tirethminet 02-06-2009 04:01 AM

@firsty - a doctor. ;_;
it might've been a good career and then i realized i would have to deal with bloody things and needles and dying people.
i just can't remove myself from the situation enough to have the balls to be a doctor. XD

Cherry Who? 02-06-2009 04:20 AM

Medical shows make me want to be a doctor. Especially Scrubs, it makes it look fun.
But then I remember that you have to work with sick, dying people and do things that make me squeamish (I wouldn't be able to stick a needle in anyone and I can't even watch a FAKE lumbar puncture on TELEVISION) and then I remember why I'm not going into that field. xD;

tirethminet 02-06-2009 04:26 AM

watch er. it makes it look not fun. XD
my mom managed to get obsessed with that show and sometimes i watch it with her, but a lot of times i need to walk out of the room because it gets to bloody and everything. ;_;

ps.
gah. going to clean out my closet now.
i need to find the rest of my costume for tomorrow.

Cherry Who? 02-06-2009 04:32 AM

*insert "in the closet" joke*

I don't know if I've read that series or not. I started reading her because I found some of her books at the library. Then, I bought some, but I don't know where most of them went. I know I have the trilogy with the girl with bone cancer that falls in love with the Amish boy. It was an interesting trilogy.

The One Last Wish series is about these teenagers at the same hospital. None of them know each other, but they each receive gists of $10,000 (I think) from a person who just explains that she went through the same thing, and wants to provide insert teenager's name here with the opportunity to make their biggest wish come true. In one of the books, a girl who finds out she was adopted after she's diagnosed, uses the money to find her birth-mother. That's the only one I really remember.
I read that trilogy, too, about the Amish boy. I forgot it's name and most of the details, but I remember that it was really good.

Gregory Maguire is a really good author, although I have to say that I preferred WICKED to CONFESSIONS. I was probably biased when I read the books, considering my obsession level with the musical, but both were fairly good. I just preferred WICKED. :P

Dream_and_Die 02-06-2009 05:55 AM

Well I just officially read all the way through all of the current Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter Novels.
I think it took me exactly a month to finish all sixteen. :sigh:
Now I have to go back to reading my text books. Eek.

@leenie: Costume?

Those sound good. Maybe they'll have them at the library when I go again.

ER was the show that got me interested in being a doctor. But I have a problem with just touching strangers, and I can't even watch my mom get blood drawn. Any bodily fluids that aren't mine gross me out. So, I really don't think I'm cut out for it. Also, I'm a little bit of a hypochondriac, so I'd be paranoid if I had to be around sick people all the time.

Melissa 02-06-2009 08:54 AM

tireth - oh yes....Ianto as a girl...and lets just say...Jack likes it too. ;D

extra - Lifted Up By Angels is the trilogy with the Amish people. I own all three in one volume. They were the only books that McDaniel wrote that don't completely make me depressed. XD

dream - O.O WHAT?! you read all 16 in a month....god girl that's insane. But then that's awesome because it's Laurell K. Hamilton your reading. I LOVE those books. :D So much better to read then that Twilight crap. -__-; Have you read Patricia Briggs? She has a series that's very Laurell-ish with out all the mystic sex.

AGREED! And I have to say that if you want someone else to check out that you should start the Dresden Chronicles. I can't remember the title of the first and author right now, but I could definately look it up if you're interested. <3 Harry is AWESOME!

Dream_and_Die 02-06-2009 01:57 PM

@Melissa: Yeah, it happened some how. XD I only really realized I read them all when I got done with Blood Noir and went to the library to get Skin Trade and they said "Oh we get that this summer." Whoops, I got addicted.
I haven't read Patricia Briggs, but I'll go look her up because the mystical sex was starting to get annoying. Just when you thought she got it out of her system BOOM it came back. I don't think she's even worked on a case in like four books.

@Feyona: I'll go check them out, thanks!
And yes, they were better then the-book-that-must-not-be-named. xD
EDIT: Jim Butcher, in case it's going to bug you to try and remember. xD

tirethminet 02-06-2009 02:18 PM

@cherry - yes, i was in the closet.
but i came out!
especially since there are now boxes blocking my entrance into my walk-in closet.
i did clean up the great mess of papers and clothes that were scattered about.

@rebel - funny. i tried to read wicked, but it was just so boring to me, i couldn't get past the first few chapters.

@dani - i'm wearing my tsunade wrap top and jacket with jeans and my prom converses. XD
and again, surprise, surprise, i've lost my blue torso wrap. i really want to know where they keep going. that's the second one.
sixteen in a month. you're a beast. stop it. you make me look bad. :[

@firsty - augh, paranoia. D:

@melissa - well jack likes anything that moves, pretty much. XDDDD

@lurlene mcdaniels discussion - damnit. now i want to read the series with the bone cancer girl and the amish boy.
BUT ONLY THAT ONE. because it sounds interesting. not quite so much death, maybe?

ps.
sabriel is making me giggle now because of interactions with touchstone.
extreme romantic at heart? NOT ME, NOT AT ALL. @[email protected];;;;

pps.
PAGE 300!!!
THIS IS MADNESS!!

FeyonaSaibre 02-06-2009 02:24 PM

Jim Butcher... ya know I knew I should have just looked in my book list and figured it out...I forgot I had it in there as one of the "reading" books.

Walk in closet? D: Not faaaiiirrr.

Cleaning out the closet is kind of fun, though. I did it a few months ago. Having less stuff that I never wear in there makes me better appreciate the things I do have.

tirethminet 02-06-2009 06:02 PM

actually my closet is just full of boxes i never unpacked after we moved.
hence all the boxes in my walk-in closet. XD
i really just need to go in sometime and go through everything i don't want anymore. x3
and really? it's the size of your standard bathroom.
my mom's closet is like a small guest room or a little office. it's ridiculous.

As far as I recall, there's only one death in the trilogy. I won't give it away, though. It's an interesting trilogy, though. It got me interested in learning more about the Amish lifestyle.

tirethminet 02-06-2009 06:36 PM

only one?
well, then. maybe i can handle it. |D

Ohhh. Well, then I bet you'll discover a few things you had forgotten about when you finally go through those boxes. :D
Maybe do it around spring. That way you can have a yard sale to get rid of all the junk. Donate the rest to the salvation army or something.

Both of you are very lucky. D: My closet is the... size of a closet. It's probably about four feet deep and about seven or eight feet wide. Pretty small. But it has two rows of bars to hang clothes on (one above the other) so I've got more than enough room for everything.

KatMagenta 02-06-2009 07:12 PM

Tireth: I love Lucifer. The 'minor' characters that popped up in The Sandman like Remiel and Duma, Mazikeen and Lucifer himself really come into their own. I always mean to check out more written by Mike Carey.

I've bought one of his books now. Thanks Play Trade. -_-

Dream_and_Die 02-06-2009 08:16 PM

@leenie: I'll help you unpack! Also I'll take anything you don't want! xD

Cherry Who? 02-06-2009 09:51 PM

I got a book today in the mail. :D "Heavier Than Heaven" by Charles Cross.

jessieomer 02-07-2009 02:13 AM

theres a LUPIN pill. xD. as if i wanted to turn into a werewolf. xD. -harry potter freak-

`Kitami 02-07-2009 04:16 AM

LET IT BE KNOWN that I am officially a card carrying member of my public library again!! :boogie:

Cherry:: Omg, do you know what, the first book I looked for was Syrup, but they only have it on audio book! D:
I checked out Jennifer Government though, which I have stashed in my bag at the moment. o.o

Dream_and_Die 02-07-2009 04:42 AM

@Kitami: You know my library doesn't have either of those books. How lame is that?
