i really want a n64. :[
my parents just never got me a game system til, i guess it was '02-'04. i don't remember at all. it was a christmas i spent in maine, that's all i remember.
and they never had one at all, so i couldn't do the inherit thing.
even now, the only big one that's actually mine is the ps2, even though i'm the only one that plays them and all of the 360 and wii games are mine. and most of the xbox ones.
except for that crappy cars game. mom got that for my brother to play. i tried to teach him and he wasn't getting it.
just like he didn't get ddr. ;_;
you know, i tried to play x-2 and i failed the first mission. i am a retard when it goes to turn-based.
free-attack it awesome for me since i'm a hack & slasher, button masher.~~
like when a splicer comes at me in bioshock? BAM, sprayed with napalm. oh, i love the napalm~~~

Cherry Who? 02-27-2009 08:09 PM

N64s are really fun. I bet you could get one super cheap at a used game store or eBay now. I could recommend some games, too.

I'm a button-masher too, but not in a productive way. xD I lose my cool and just hit random things and then die.
When I was younger, my guy friends and I would always play James Bond games. My friend Eric was really good (compared to his brother and I, at least), so if he found you you were pretty much fucked. Sometimes I'd try to run away. Other times I'd just start spinning in circles with my finger glued on the trigger button. It made me a little harder to hit and I'd nail a few shots at him. Most of the time I'd still end up dying, but it at least pissed him off. A few times he was already really low on HP so I actually killed him. That REALLY pissed him off. xDDD

Tireth: Hm, I've never heard it before. Maybe when I crawl out from this rock...

Gamers: The oldest system I still have is my N64. I had a go taking a picture of Mew on Pokemon Snap recently and I still couldn't get a really good one! I had a Sega Mega Drive (which came out in Europe before I was born?) but my mum gave in to my great uncle's whining and let him have it. ¬_¬

My PS2 broke a while ago and I took the money instead of a replacement because decent second hand ones are pretty cheap now.

Edit: I don't know if anyone's interested but today's XKCD is The Princess Bride themed. ^^

tirethminet 02-28-2009 12:52 AM

@cherry - someday when i have money burning a hole in pocket, i will get an n64, but right now, i am saving for cons!! @[email protected];;

@kat - it's mostly used in silly hollywood movies.
... your great uncle should be slapped, just for whining about a sega.
ps2~~~~ oh it pains me. i would cry without my jak & daxter. <3

bwahahaha, princess bride,
and i LOVE the hover message. XD
inigo is the best. 8D

Knerd 02-28-2009 12:55 AM

Ahaha, I saw that.
I immediately had to save it on my computer.

Honestly, Westley's a bit of a tool, isn't he? But Buttercup isn't the brightest crayon, either. :XD

shadowfoot 02-28-2009 04:17 AM

She's actually smarter in the movie than she is in the book, which is saying something.

FeyonaSaibre 02-28-2009 01:44 PM

I loved that movie though now that I'm older I realize it does have some flaws. Like when my creative literature class watched it in 8th grade. I wanted to cry when they started laughing at the ROUS's. But after a while I was laughing right along with them.

KatMagenta 02-28-2009 07:38 PM

I wish I had never read the sample chapter of Buttercup's Baby (I have the 25th Anniversary edition of the book). It makes between little and no sense, and is largely depressing. :/

I showed my friend the link and ending up accidentally discovering The Princess Bride Game and playing the demo. Buttercup makes a really annoying noise when she jumps during the platform style levels. Ugh!

Woo, started Less Than Zero this morning.

Cherry Who? 02-28-2009 08:54 PM

I got two books in the mail! The Diary of Anne Frank and "This is Not a Book" by Michael Picard.
I really need to stop ordering books. xD It's going to take me FOREVER to get through the ones I have now... but I just keep ordering them! xD Dammit! xD

KatMagenta 02-28-2009 09:01 PM

I know what you mean Cherry! Every time I return my library books I say I won't get any more out so I can focus on the books I've bought and haven't read. I got five out this time. >.<

Cherry Who? 02-28-2009 09:03 PM

Yeah! I mean, look at my to-read list. If I finish all those books, I'll have very nearly reached my goal for this year. xDD

And my read list is really pathetic because both books I'm reading now (a novel and a textbook/study guide thing) are massive.

KatMagenta 02-28-2009 09:07 PM

Heh, I might make a list myself and keep me a bit more focused. I had a 'to read' list on my myspace blog but when I bought the books I was taking them off and assuming I would read them soon enough. Not so long as the library still has shiny books. -_-

I've read a whole two of the books on your to read list. XD

Cherry Who? 02-28-2009 09:15 PM

Oh really? Which ones have you read? I'm going to assume one was probably Anne Frank since I think most schools have you read that at some point.

Stormy1 02-28-2009 10:14 PM

Anne Frank is a really good book, some parts are a tad boring but it's amazing. I actually read the play version in school which did no justice to the book, but it did get my interested to buy and read the book.

sukishine 03-01-2009 12:28 AM

I've been taking advantage of my library too and I keep adding to my 'to read' list. It's at about 30 right now but I keep adding to it every time I pick a book up at the library. >.>
And I just can't stop reading Those Anne of Green Gables books. Her writing is just amazing to me children's book or not. Plus I like the fact that it can be read to children. There are some great books out there with some trash in them wish gets really annoying. But all the Anne books besides the first one are less than 300 pages so it's not adding as much to my page goal but rather my book goal.

I'm not sure if I could read the Diary of Anne Frank. In my pre-ap English class in 8th grade my class spent six weeks studying the Holocaust which in reality isn't very long but it was the longest six weeks of my life. We read the play version too. I was depressed and sick and the teacher who was a great teacher in general was pretty much ticked at every body during that time. We read the play version of Anne Frank while the other classes watched it since as I said, our teacher was not in a good mood. Oh, but I got my fill of images which will forever stay with me so I'm not sorry. I'm just not sure I can read anything else about the Holocaust for a long time and it's already been three years. I know that probably sounds dramatic considering I actually didn't go through anything.

FeyonaSaibre 03-01-2009 02:19 AM

If I wrote down everything that I have at my disposal that I WANT to read on my "to read" list... well it'd be a heck of a lot longer than it is now. Luckily I've got enough on my "read" list to satisfy the tiny part of my brain that keeps screaming "you're never going to make it in time!!" LOL.

shadowfoot 03-01-2009 05:39 AM

Urg. Now I've gotten into watching D. Gray-man. Anime is an addiction...seriously.

Dream_and_Die 03-01-2009 05:44 AM

D. Gray-man is love.
I'm planning on reading it now (I know you shouldn't watch the anime's first).

*dances* I am officially half done with the challenge, and one fourth of the way done with my goal based on page count!

Haha, yes, there are far too many books to read... I have sixty some checked out of the library, and eleven on hold. XD I had eighty eight out, but I took some back and decided to get them later. Plus books I OWN that I want to read, and books I haven't checked out/put on hold yet in order to excersize SOME small amount of will power...

Bishielurfer 03-01-2009 05:27 PM

^^; I need to go to the library and pick up my holds...
I went totally all out for my list. D: I made an Excel sheet with all the books I plan to read, how many pages they have, and about how many pages I have to read a night to get it all finished. It's...a lot. XD

On the subject of Priness Bride...that movie is amazing. X3 It makes me laugh so much.
"Inconceivable!"
"I do not think that means what you think it means."

The only thing better than Princess Bride is Monty Python.

Cherry: On your list, I've read Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul on Tough Stuff, Journals, Brave New World, and Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.

I'm reading Farenheit 451 (I'd be done, but I got distracted by my new library card XD) and I'm going to read The Bell Jar, the Stolarz books, and Lord of the Flies. :3

KatMagenta 03-01-2009 05:59 PM

Cherry: Oh, I forgot about Anne Frank because I read it for school so long ago. I was thinking of Brave New World and Heavier than Heaven. ^^

If I listed books I didn't own on my to read list it would be massive. I just don't have the money to buy books unless they're second hand so I don't want to get depressed looking at books I'll probably never get to read.

Cherry Who? 03-01-2009 07:44 PM

The list of books that I want to read but don't own is actually pretty short. I think there's only six or so on it. Mostly because I already ordered the rest. xDD

Kat - Did you like them? I'm looking forward to both.

Knerd 03-01-2009 08:21 PM

After reading all of your comments, you guys convinced me to make my own "To Read" list.
It's a little short right now, but once I get back home and grab all the books I've already bought, it's going to get a lot longer.

O_o;;
You can have that many out?
What library is this and how can I join?

KatMagenta 03-01-2009 09:08 PM

Cherry: I enjoyed Brave New World a lot when I got into it. I think I've said before but I think you'll like it if you're into Orwell and dystopian fiction so you'll probably get an extra level of appreciation from it. I would like to read it's counterpart Island some day.

I only really read Heavier Than Heaven because I had a friend who was a total grunge nut. She would make me mix CDs of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, The Breeders etc.
I enjoyed the book because I didn't really know that much about the scene and Cobain's earlier life. I've since heard a lot of it is rumours and hearsay presented as fact, but it's a good read even if some of it is fictitious.

+ I've been upstairs with a pencil and a piece of paper and have a list of over 20 unread books. Bad Katie. -_-

My library card limit is twelve and I think the most I've seriously borrowed is eight. You only get three weeks to read them. :/
