:does a happy dance:
My library finally had one of the books in that I wanted. ^_^ Still no Jennifer Government though. @Shadow: Look away from the pretty moving pictures! xD |
Well, I suppose there's no time like the present to start one of these up. I wonder if I can do 50 in a year when I keep getting forced into the same five textbooks, over and over and over. Let's find out!

@shadow - anime? ANIME?
100 episodes of bleach in a week, GO! no joke, i'm on 101 right now. XD matsumoto's obi is making me crazy. i may have to cheat and sew a bow and the dangly lieutenant's band onto a standard thick white obi-belt. and i've managed to get half, HALF, of my latch-hook rug done. >_> @to read lists - i should just go through all of my books and list each one that i haven't read yet or i don't remember reading OR i don't remember anything about it (claidi journals. ._.; ) that will make a nice, sizable list that should get me through my 100. 8D @cherry - EVERYBODY'S GONNA LOVE TODAY, GONNA LOVE TODAY, GONNA LOVE TODAY. EVERYBODY'S GONNA LOVE TODAY, GONNA LOVE TODAY. ANYWAY YOU WANT TO, ANYWAY YOU'VE GOT TO. LOVE LOVE ME. LOVE LOVE ME. LOVE LOVE. i hate you. <3 (i typed all that up myself. no copypasta.) ps. my inner fashion designer is starting to kick in for cosplaying. I HAVE SO MANY SCREENCAPS OF MATSUMOTO. because i'm still trying to figure out how her obi works. and also how i can sew the haori to show that much cleavage. (@[email protected]) and also i may need to reconstruct one of my old bras to make one that works with the shinigami outfit. since soul society HAS NO BRAS. @[email protected];;; and also i need to figure out how i'm going to deal with making the sword since i don't really have access to woodworking tools like a ROUTER. DDDD:< my mom fixes things, she doesn't make things. i may have to play with my pocket knife for this one. if i were still up in jersey, i would go borrow my friend's dad's garage. he has every woodworking tool imaginable. or i would visit the middle school since i know the woodworking teacher there (not at the high school XD) and i'm somewhat familiar with the tools. i wonder if the people at home depot or lowes would let me borrow their tools. XD ... if i ever see tite kubo, i am so punching him in the face for all his impracticalities, both in character designs and plot devices that go against the initial rules of the bleach universe. also, i totally patterned out tsubaki's outfit (two links there) from soul eater for someone on gaia because it was bothering me that they probably would have just taken a dress and made a slit up the side. >:[ (if you're on gaia, go visit my cosplay thread so i'm not lonely. ;_; ) |

If it's any consolation, every now and then I get flashbacks to Abe Lincoln in a thong. |
I finally decided to pick up "The Catcher in the Rye". It's strange. The main character must be ADD because his train of thought jumps about as often as mine does. It never seems to stay in one place for very long. ...and he cusses a lot. *sighs* I hate books with too much cussing in them.
|
Ah Feyona. I really dislike excessive cussing too. I'm reading Less Than Zero and I already think the kids were shallow and pretentious enough (poor little lost souls, wah wah wah). They don't need to use the f-word or even the c-word in every other sentence to enforce the point.
My mum likes Martina Cole and she was reading a book that was supposed to be set in a gritty part of London. When I looked over her shoulder one of the characters didn't seem to know any other word to describe anything other than 'f*cking'. |
I can't be too harsh on excessive cussing since I tend to talk that way if I get really excited or mad. xD;
I have a big vocabulary and I'm not stupid, I just like saying fuck. xDD |
I tend to curse frequently, but when it pops out every other sentence (be it a real person or in a book) it makes me want to feed the person (or character) a bar of soap. xD
I have a friend who instead of just saying "uhm" or "uh" she says f*cking repeatedly till she remembers what she was going to say. Ex: "So we went to the park and we uh f*cking... f*cking, uh f*cking swung on the swings." U_U :headdesk: |
I don't have as much of a problem with a single character cussing as long as it's not the main character. I mean... it's fine if the main character cusses. I just don't want them in love with swear words. It distracts too much from the story for me to enjoy it...
|
I swear a lot in real life which is why I really try to not swear at all on the internet. At least if I think about typing a word I can just stop myself or delete it.
One of my friends (justifiably, it was an awful function to type) shouted "You f*cking little sh*tty percentage!" at a spreadsheet today and I'm worried I sound like that all of the time. I'm incredibly Northern (listen to The Futureheads, that's my accent) so I do sound a bit rough anyway. XD |
I don't have a problem with people cussing in real life either... well I guess except if they're cussing around children. I have a problem with that. Though honestly I have that problem myself too sometimes. Case of we hate the most in others what we hate about ourselves.
Anyway, I guess my point is that it's fine if that's how you speak... but if you cuss in your thoughts all the time... it bothers me. You can't escape it when you're in someone else's head. If the POV is purely 1st person, then you can't escape whatever their thoughts are. If in their head they cuss all the time (which this guy does) it gets annoying. |
I don't use curse words, but I'm not the type to get all arch about it if other people around me do. I do get upset if they are saying inappropriate things where children could hear them, or very loudly in public places, or around little elderly ladies who are upset by it...
|
Yeah, swearing around children isn't good at all. There's a time and a place for it. Around children, elderly (who don't swear themselves. Plenty do. My great-grandma has some rather colorful sayings that sound really funny coming out of such a small, old lady xD), in a church, places like that aren't very good for it. Or even just generally around people who you know don't like it.
I've actually recently had problems with people completely stopping being friends with me because I swear. >> I didn't do it AROUND THEM, even. Just that I did it at all was just too much for them. Great friends, right? |
@cherry - actually, i think you got the worse end of the stick. something like that is mentally scarring. XD
dude. your friends. need to punched. for being such pussies. 8D @cursing discussion - i do the same thing as cherry, curse when i'm really excited or a little bit mad. x3 (a lot mad = silence) or, you know, when it works and flows with the sentence. @kat - awwww accent. cute. :3 ps. i think i need to stop going on the computer for a while. D: i am getting nothing done. better yet, i don't even have the excuse of watching bleach for the past day and a half. >_>; but, you know, it's not going to happen now. because i am a PROCRASTINATOR! 8DDDD |
Well if the computer wasn't where all my work was I wouldn't mind taking a break from it for a few days. ^.^
|
Leenie - True. xDD You got happyjoy and I got a mostly naked president with lots of penis innuendos. ._ .
Srsly. D: One was a 12 year old girl, which, okay, I get (though she tried to lecture me, which was just hilarious xD), and another was 13 and because her mom saw and didn't approve. But then there were two people who were about 18-19 (wtf, baby much?) and another was my age - 17. If you can't handle even seeing curse words by that age... Jeez, the real world is going to bite you so hard. o_o Yeah, I also tend to use cuss words for emphasis even when I'm not mad or that excited. Just when I get caught up in what I'm saying. Then lots of things are "really fucking [adjective]." But I have a big vocabulary, so that makes up for it, maybe? xD |
I'm 18 and the only reason I would even dare ask someone to mind their language was if they were in an inappropriate situation like the ones people have mentioned.
Anyway, people tend to get more offended when I say something like "What the cock?" then if I flat out swear. There's a girl in my ICT class who puts the lads who reckon they're tough to shame. We were doing a Christmas quiz and one of the questions was "What did King Arthur do on Christmas day?" and this girl shouted out "I dinno like, 'ad a wank?". Pure class. I think my computer is going away for a day or two from tonight. At least I might get some more reading done. I'll need something light after Less Than Zero so I'll probably move onto the Torchwood books. XD |
I'll do this. Used to be I'd read 10,000 pages in a month - when that much fresh literature was available - but lately I haven't been able to find the time. I'll post this book that I started (re)reading recently.

Kat - "What the cock?" Oh, how I lol'd. xD I love unusual colorful sayings. xD
One that I tend to use a lot is "Jesus shit." Basically the same as "Shit," but with the added exclamation power of "Jesus Christ!" My boyfriend likes to come up with really strange, long ones like "Holy living jesus on a pogo stick!" xD I don't know why Jesus is in so many of these. xD |
Perhaps because bringing religion into it is more shocking. I tend to be more offended about someone using my religion in their cursing than I do with actual curse words. I know that others are not brought up the same way, and that many do not follow my religion, but I still think that bringing religion into cursing is personally offensive. I for instance, if I were inclined to curse, would not use someone else's beliefs to do it.
|
My favorite mix of randomness that's like a cuss word and really isn't would have to be "Sweet Zombie Jebus on a Pogo Stick!" I found it off of 8-Bit Theater. If you like Final Fantasy and you've never read it... go to www.nuklearpower.com. You will totally lol. Shameless promoting FTW! <3
|
You know in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander she has a whole little essay on those Jesus on a pogo stick type sayings, as thought by WWII era nurse. They actually have a name, though of course, I can't remember it at the moment. D=
