Wait... if it's about Erik trying to get a life, how could it be so funny? Also, out running Raoul? :/

Gah, I still need to find a copy of the original Phantom book >>

Usually when I say the movie I mean the 2004 one because there was a huge influx of Phantom books written using Gerard Butler as a base. Which is what these books did as well as Unmasqued.
Not that I mind, I mean Gerard Bulter is... :drool:
Well Gerard Bulter.

It's funny at parts because I have a horrid sense of humor. :sweat:
Also the author makes Erik really sarcastic and snide so his remarks make me laugh.

Yes, Raoul. Even though Meg is the main female in these books, like I said, Erik is still trying to get over Christine, and he did kidnap her twice. So Raoul's all 'Mr. Vengeful.' xD
It isn't so much about Erik getting a life, as Erik trying to die and being forced to get a life, repeatedly.

Go find Phantom!! I gave mine away to my boyfriend (it was in really bad shape from years in my grade school book bag) and I'm looking for a leather bound version. ^_^ I am just that obsessed.

Granger Danger 04-05-2009 12:40 AM

@ Dream_and_Die - D'aw, I'm a fan of the movie, but I know that Gerik is different than the musical!Erik, who's different than the original Phantom of the Opera xP

Sorry, I think you thought I meant the book Phantom by Susan Kay. When I said 'Phantom', I meant the book by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera xP

Dream_and_Die 04-05-2009 12:49 AM

The Susan Kay book didn't even cross my mind. I knew you meant The Phantom of The Opera. I shorten it to 'Phantom' as well. I usually italicize a book title if I type it all the way out. So like the Susan Kay book I would have typed as Phantom and not just Phantom. xD

You'd be surprised how many people assume that the musical is on par with the original book.
It's why I always go tell people to read the book first.

Granger Danger 04-05-2009 01:00 AM

Oh, okay, just making sure xP

Er... I think I was one of those people before I went and looked up the original book ^^;;
Now that I think about it, I'm surprised I hadn't realized that sooner, that the show was/is different than the book. I mean, Wicked is nothing like the book it was based on, why wouldn't I have thought the same for Phantom? xP

Cherry Who? 04-05-2009 04:42 AM

So I finished Running With Scissors. I have such an uneven pace when it comes to reading.
It was really good, but really, REALLY strange. I would not recommend it for anyone easily (or, hell, even somewhat uneasily) offended or put off. Lots of... weird and disturbing things. It's a crazy book. It just is. But it was really good, and I'd recommend it for weird people that could handle it. xD

@leenie: You know the Phantom is my dream man. XD So yes some parts made me sad, for me at least.

@Jersey: It does! It a series (four books) about the Phantom after the mob comes down looking for him. Though instead of being about Christine this series is about Meg and Erik. She saves him from despair and the Phantom then has to out run his past, Raoul, and his still strong love of Christine.
That's essentially the back of book one. Though it's probably worded better. xD

I really liked the take on Meg, I get kind of tired of reading all the ones with Christine because everyone writes her the same.
The only problem with the series is it's based off the play or movie (I think more so the movie). Not the actual book.

@new jersey - wikipage for the first book.
but don't read the plot summary. that's the whole thing.
here's the first three paragraphs, which are fairly safe.
Quote:

Grace and Connor twins, recently orphaned after their widowed father’s death. Their options are to be adopted by the town’s busybodies or to set sail for new pastures in one of their father’s possessions that was taken by the bank, his sailing boat.

The twins set sail, but a vicious storm sees their boat capsize and the twins are separated. Two mysterious ships sail to their "rescue" – each picking up one twin before disappearing into the mist.

Connor awakes to find himself on a pirate ship and is soon being trained up with a cutlass after saving the Captain (Wrathe) from an attack which involved two hidden assassins in the vases of Wrathe's room. Meanwhile, Grace finds herself locked in a darkened room, as the vampirates wait for night to fall and their feasting to begin. Connor and Grace are determined to find each other, however intrigued they are by their new shipmates.

@dani - you know. you scare me sometimes. XD

@yuri - but still too much work and money for publishing companies to care about printing them.

SPOILERX

sidorio is a CREEPER. ;_;
and jez popping up was like. WTF. @[email protected];;;
i flipped out, it was ridiculous. XD

ps.
SO I WENT TO B&N TODAY (yesterday).
i had to go return what the dickens because i started reading it and realised it was by gregory maguire.
i can't stand his writing style for some reason, which is probably why i couldn't finish wicked, either.
anywho, i got two new books! 8D
black heart (of course) and dead witch walking, since my library doesn't have it. D:

Stormy1 04-05-2009 05:54 AM

Tire:: You've read M or F? O.o ohmygod I love you, no one I know has ever read that book. Its one of my favorites. <3

Yuri-san 04-05-2009 06:10 AM

Tireth: Oh I know, and I agree it'd be a waste of money -- but I'd still personally wish for it xD
Even if my copy was the sole copy, I'd wish for it xD

SPOILERX

No kidding! :gonk:
And then how Connor, even -after- the Captain's warnings, ACCEPTED Jez's story.. I mean, are you -serious- right now?!
-sigh-
I mean, I can understand Bart, but not CONNOR!

And then how Shanti went all crazy loony and tried to kill Grace?
I was just like "Wtf?! Did she get Sidorio's ribbon!?"
And then how Olivier was just "conveniently" there to save her.. it's just like "wtf?! did you expect this to happen!?"

-sigh-
The book's getting on my nerves, but I love it XD

:gonk:
LUCKY!
No fairrrr~
You must tell me if it's amazing or not :3
I mean, obviously it's going to be amazing, but you must tell me if it's as amazing as we expect it to be <3

It's both. xD
Half the time I'm applauding at how well she portrays the characters while the other half I'm banging my head on the nearest surface.
The best I can say is, if you don't mind how the play changed the original characters then you probably won't want to hunt down Sadie Montgomery.
All in all it was pretty good, I'd recommend reading them but get them from a library. They're those random books that are a different size so each book is fifteen dollars. I wouldn't own them if leenie hadn't gotten them for Christmas for me. ^_^

<3

tirethminet 04-05-2009 07:13 AM

@stormy - yesssss, i loved the book so much.
i just saw it in the store and was like "que?"
so i picked it up and dragged it home with me. XD
there were parts that made me laugh and parts that made me cry so all in all, it was a good read. :3

@yuri - well, i promised myself that i wouldn't read it until i finish the two books i have from the library, so you might actually read it before me. XD

SPOILERX

connor is too accepting. sigh. :[
AUGH shanti is off the hook crazy.
just like. insane.
but i thought it was kind of amusing how sidorio's popped up. @[email protected]

@dani - obsessive about erik.
seriously, if he was in real life, you would find a way to stalk him in his own opera house.

ps.
OKAY GUYS.
time for the GUESSING GAME.
dani and i (and another friend who isn't in this thread, but is still on mene) are in the picture in our sigs.
GUESS WHO IS WHO. 8D
(no cheating by checking our profiles, either. actually, i'll go hide those for right now)

@leenie: I saw What the Dickens! I was going to get it but I didn't have enough money. xD

Leave it to you to make a picture I found into a game.
I hid my album too! Correct guesses get hugs. xD

tirethminet 04-05-2009 07:49 AM

you are an odd being. 8D

of course i made it a game.
it wouldn't be me without making a game of some sort. XD

KatMagenta 04-05-2009 12:53 PM

So... I typed a reply and then lost my internet connection for a few seconds. ¬_¬

Ooh, a game.X

I think Tireth is at the bottom (but I've seen pictures before so that probably doesn't count) but I've never seen Dream. I'll guess... the girl sort of sticking her tongue out. =P

The stories in my Dax anthology are way longer than I thought they were, gah.

Could I get some brief synopsis for some of those? I can say that I'd go look them up myself, but I know me, and I'd never get around to it. D:
Doesn't have to be anything huge. Just enough to give me an idea if it's something I'm interested in or not. Like, just a few sentences.
And thank you. :heart:

Well, ahh, to be perfectly honest, I... haven'treadthebookyet. ._. I've only seen the 2004 movie and the Broadway play (fuckyesthatwasawesome).
So I'm used to the characters as they've been portrayed recently, but not them changing. And I kind of have a low fanfiction tolerance...

tirethminet 04-05-2009 05:07 PM

ugh internet losing. D:
say no more. my wireless has started seriously failing occasionally so i'll get about 5-10 minutes of no connectivity, so matter how close i am to the hub.

i will pm you the answer! 8D
so, you know, no one else can tell if you have the right answer or not.

i was woken up at this ungodly hour (noon) with the promise of chick-fil-a.
but they are closed today (like every other sunday) so i am still hungry for that delicious chicken. ;_;

@cherry - uh. i'll try to find some summaries since
a) i haven't read most of them
b) i am awful at making summaries
c) some of them don't have summaries on them since i got them from those paper scholastic book orders that you get in elementary school. 8D
but it'll take more time. @[email protected]

You know I've never thought of it that way, but they are fanfiction... xD
Professional fanfiction but fanfiction none the less. XD
That's why I said try the library if anyone wants to read them. ^_^

That's sort of why I don't want to read Phantom by Susan Kay or that Phantom in Manhattan or whatever it's called xP All it is is published fanfiction :/

Also, I LOVE the show. I've only seen it twice, but I really want to see it again xP

One last thing... Since you guys seem to be Phantom fans, have any of you seen the dA comic Requiem Mask? It's about the original Phantom of the Opera characters in a modern day setting. As strange as that may sound, it's actually a really good comic. You don't need to know all that much about the book to enjoy it, it's funny either way.

Actually the Susan Kay novel intrigues the hell out of me because it was written before the movie, was actually based on the original novel, and has background on Erik, like with Persia. Just the pure fact that she didn't base it off the play makes me want to read it.
I'm a fan of fanfiction, if it's well written and the characters and plot line don't stray to far. Say like if they made Erik a kind compassionate man who never murdered in his life. Then I'd have to hunt down that author and force them to retract the story.

I haven't seen that comic, link?

Cherry Who? 04-05-2009 10:47 PM

Leenie - Wowwww, thank you. I didn't expect you to do all of them. *gives food* Rest now. Rest.

Dream_and_Die 04-05-2009 11:18 PM

@leenie: Yeah I found it. In the process though I found other pretty pictures and I'm so not getting my studying done. xD
I didn't want to search because I'm studying... Though it is not working out.

Why do I bother? I always say I'm going to study but then I never do. I still haven't read the chapters for this test. T_T

tirethminet 04-05-2009 11:28 PM

>_>;;;
sheesh, dani.

MAMAN! ;____;

Dream_and_Die 04-05-2009 11:46 PM

@leenie: I just got to that frame and I laughed so hard I started crying.

I've never studied, like ever. I thought since I'm in college that I should start, but I didn't last semester either. :shrugs:

Granger Danger 04-06-2009 12:48 AM

Sorry about distracting you guys ^^;;
I do that too, say I'm going to study something and then don't xP

But it is a funny comic, isn't it? My favorite page has to be Pesky Brother Complex, it's a few pages after the teddy bear one. Either that page or any page about fez's and Kevin xD
