ljos, as long as you can laugh at it, you're sane.
really.
i read the first two before the hype (yes. wow.)
they weren't too awfully silly, but i thought it might turn out okay.
NOPE. the last two got more ridiculous. you will have fun.
actually, i recommend finding the audiobooks to download (free&illegal. xp) online.
if nothing else, so that you can work on other things while listening, but the whole part where they are acting it out just makes for great buckets of laughter.
even despite the jacob voice actor being a total tool and having the worst voice ever, the bella voice actor (for most of everything) was actually fairly good.
those are the only two voice actors since those are the only two points of view in the books.
jacob gets his narrative chapters starting in eclipse, though, so not too much fail.

YOU KNOW.
i had something to say to you guys.
but i forgot.
freakin' happ'nin' ag'in. :<

ljosberinn 05-08-2009 02:47 PM

Oooh. That is a good idea actually, I love listening to audiobooks while I'm editing photos. I'm currently listening to His Dark Materials, but if I can handle reading more than one (read: 10) books at a time, I can handle listening to more than one audiobook.

I loved the scene in the movie where Edward says "This is the skin of a killer!" Seriously, has to be one of the funniest sentences in a movie EVER. I was watching it along and I laughed so loud, my flatmates must have heard me. xD I'm recommending the movie to everyone now, because I found it so funny. I have a feeling the books might strain my irritation capacity a bit more though. I thought it was hilarious how autistic both Bella and Edward looked in the movie, at times I felt like I was watching an artsy film about two seriously autistic people finding love. Aww, how sweet.

I should clean my room, it's such a mess.. but there are so many other more fun things I could be doing. >.>

Dream_and_Die 05-08-2009 03:51 PM

@ljos: I really want to kill the three main characters. I really do. I can't even find it funny in the ridiculous sense... Just no. X_X
Though I will grab Breaking Dawn one day soon (before I forget these books again) so I can see the end to this. Even though I cheated and looked info up on the Twilight Saga Wiki (I just wanted the date Carlisle was born but I found out book 4 spoilers back when I couldn't even remember the difference between Victoria and Rosalie). xD

@leenie: You know how I get sometimes. Can't sleep, must read. @[email protected]
Last time it happened I chatted with you and Bishie till 6 AM remember? XD

ljosberinn 05-08-2009 04:39 PM

Ahaha. Thankfully I'm very patient, at least compared to most people I know. Can't wait to start listening to it now, I might even clean my room while I listen...

Groceries! I have them. And new mugs since I managed to smash both my mugs just after I had reunited with one that had been lost since.. October, or something like that. So much fail.

tirethminet 05-08-2009 05:15 PM

@ljos - you know. that is a damn funny line.
why did i not remember? (oh, right. bad memory.)
but stuff like that is the only reason i want to get the movie.
i'm trying to figure out how they looked autistic. because i so don't remember any of that.
course. i may be influenced by my brother who is not your typical autistic. more all-social than anti-social.

your room is a mess?
AM I GOING TO HAVE THIS COMPETITION AGAIN? XD

ohno! mugs. smashed. ::cries for the mugs::

@dream - you mean can't sleep, must read, then can't sleep because you're reading? >_>;
remember... no?
come on, now.
i've been awake for almost 24 hours, what are you expecting from me?

ps.
we're on page. 404.
giggle.
EASILY AMUSED, SLEEP DEPRIVED LEENIE, BEWARE.

nononono. i still have wall-hanging shelves i need to put up and then i need to find space for the poster. since it's FRAMED.

HANG YOUR SHELVES RIGHT NOW AND THEN HANG YOUR FRAMED BOWIE POSTER RIGHT AFTERWARDS.

Here's my Bowie poster. I actually don't even have that album, I just found it at a music store and thought he looked hot in that picture. xD Plus, I needed a Bowie poster.
(Ignore the ugly border around the top of my wall. It's ugly and I haaaate it.)

Melissa 05-08-2009 05:34 PM

I just finished reading Harry, A History by Melissa Anelli.

oooh man. if anyone is or was a potter nerd you should read that book. It is the best written example of how Harry Potter can take over a persons life...or the world. Lol

I also really enjoyed the books because I learned a lot more about how Harry Potter was created...and the struggles J.K Rowling went through.

tirethminet 05-08-2009 05:36 PM

butbutbut i have to check if there are studs in the wall.
and i have to get the drill out.
and i have to find the tape measure and level.
and i have to get mom to help me since there is no way i am hanging six wall-mounted shelves by myself.

and then i have to find a spot for the poster.
it either goes above my desk (which i can't use since it's covered in stuff)
or the skinny bookcase (which has dvds on top, blocking open wall space, which are going on the new shelves once i put them up)
in the open spot on my wall that gets hidden by my closet door whenever it's open.
or above my dresser which has a supertall lamp which would block the wonderful bowie.

eeheehee, pretty bowie~
and awwwww, he's in a cute little cottage scene.

ljosberinn 05-08-2009 07:40 PM

Tireth: It was so funny I even made an icon of it! (It was the first time I made an animated icon though and it was done in a hurry, so the quality isn't great. But it amuses me to no end.
It was just.. the way they both acted. Not saying anything and always mumbling something and never looking in anyone's eye. Of course there are so many types of autism, but I think these are fairly typical symptoms? I'm not an expert on it though, I've just known a couple of autistic kids. Maybe more like Aspergers, since that's what I know best.

Don't hit me. >.> I've cleaned it now though! Yay I can sit on my windowsill again! (As soon as I can be bothered to remove the jumble of water bottles currently sitting on it.) And use my desk (for a couple of days at least) and my sink does not have hair everywhere (I just cut my hair all over it). My floor is even clean. :o
I listened to Twilight while I was cleaning by the way, it is very funny already. I laughed out loud at Bella going all "Ohmigawd I am so smart it's not even funny [except it is] and I've read all the books in the WORLD worth reading at all and I am so above everyone around me and I'm super popular with everyone even though I'm all anti-social REALLY." I just kept thinking of this picture.

Heeeee, 404. 8D

Cherry: Shiiiiiny Bowie poster! It is a very hot picture of him. *nods*

I think this summer it might be time to start reading Harry Potter again. >.>

Iltu 05-08-2009 09:54 PM

Annig- That would be a great version of heaven. I imagine it would be really enlightening and teach you abou your mortal life, which would be a nicer way to live out eternity than just ignorant, eternal bliss. I'm getting into eastern religions and the concept of reincarnation, so the sort of situation that book posed was super cool to me- it would be awesome with or without another life right around the bend. :>

@ Twilight conversation- JACOB. GOD. I hate that guy. DX

SPOILERX

HOLY GOD! When Bella punched Jacob and broke her hand on his jaw!? How DARE Charlie ract that way! No no no, ARREEST HIS STUPID, ANGSTY, ANNOYING BUTT. GOD. Give us ONE less annoying person to deal with in those books, kthx!</rant>

Emmet was my favorite, though I have little liking for those books. o_o

Dream_and_Die 05-08-2009 10:03 PM

@Iltu: Thank you! I read that part and was like "On what planet is that a correct reaction!?!?!"

Iltu 05-09-2009 01:14 AM

Dream- Tell me about it! It made me so mad. That is pretty much the worst parenting I have EVER seen. o_o

DariaMorgendorfer 05-09-2009 03:24 AM

HUGS thread! OOOHHH, I am so happy to hear that I am not alone in the "didn't understand what the hype was about" with the Twilight saga. Seriously, Alice is the best...but after that..Um, yeah...Don't care. And the whole "This is the skin of a monster thing" HILARIOUS! Sparkley is sooo scary? Or am I just a magpie and as a mere human, I must go to the shiny sparkley demon? I heard that the guy who plays Edward basically said he plays Edward as if he was a person with disabilities (dare I say the Retard word?). HILARIOUS again. I am awaiting a nice used copy of the movie just for comic value. NOT going to pay full price for that POS.

I like the Charlene Harris books so much better. I can't wait for the first season of "True Blood" (the HBO series that was based on the books) comes out for me to Netflicks!

Dream_and_Die 05-09-2009 03:25 AM

@Iltu: I was lucky I was home alone, I was flat out screaming at the book.

@ Daria: I need to start that series, as soon as my library gets book one. XD

DariaMorgendorfer 05-09-2009 03:36 AM

@ Dream, I like the series, it's not a "OH MY GOD THE BEST BOOKS EVER" kinda series...They are fun, light "brain Twinkie" kinda books. I like the main character, Sookie, because she is an ADULT and makes adult choices throughout the series. She's interesting because she is a telepath (info told in the first chapter of the first book, no spoiler here), but the series just gets better and better as it goes along. More and more "otherworldly" characters get introduced. The next book is due out this month...So I will snatch that baby up as soon as it comes out on softback. One more book toward the 50!

Still, you should read the last book in the Twilight series. Honestly, it was the one I liked the most. Withholds urge to add spoilers.

Oh, and that is not saying that I loved the book, it was just the most...um...interesting to me of the 4.

SOOOO happy to have found others who are not thrilled with those LAME books.

Dream_and_Die 05-09-2009 03:39 AM

xD
I actually just got home from picking up the last book. I'd have preferred not to buy it but I own the other three and my OCD could not let that be. xD
I have a paper due Monday, so I might start it tonight after I flesh out my paper a bit.

DariaMorgendorfer 05-09-2009 03:48 AM

When you do finish the book PM me, I am dying to hear your take on it...Again, I am soo withholding the urge to be an ass and add spoilers. GAH...BEHAVE DARIA...

shadowfoot 05-09-2009 05:37 AM

The Harry Potter phenomenon I actually understand. The Twilight one, not so much.

Dream_and_Die 05-09-2009 05:46 AM

Nope, halfway through Breaking Dawn and I still can't comprehend.
PS I hate reading through Jacob's perspective. It actually makes me wish for Bella's point of view back.

Kamikaze Kendra 05-09-2009 06:13 AM

Twilight was one of those series that made me wish I wasn't so intent on finding out how things ended. I hated Meyer's writing style, how trite the characters were, and her overuse of so many adjectives. I can only read the word "beautiful" so many times in one book before getting nauseated. Some of the minor characters were infinitely more interesting than the mains... but generally it got on my last nerve.

On another note, I need to stop having Barnes & Noble trips so close together. I was already intent on re-reading The Great Gatsby, but in the past two weeks I've bought Dracula, The Complete Works of Lewis Carroll, Snuff, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies... now I can't figure out what to read first. >.<;

tirethminet 05-09-2009 06:21 AM

@ljos - you. i love you. <3
and that is a symptom of autism. or. part of the spectrum.
there are so many types of autism, it's hard to generalise them all, except that they are social disorders.
i'm not gonna hit you. XD
i just have a seriously messy room, so i challenge people when they say they have messy rooms as well. x3
i told you it would be funny.
that is totally the best picture. well, one of them, at least.

@daria - I AM WAITING FOR THE DVD LIKE THAT AS WELL. XD
ohman. i only want it to laugh at it.
i think dream will post her take on it in here anyway, so you'll get to read it. :]

ps.
i am watching aeon flux. FINALLY.
it's awesome. AWESOME, I SAY.
i can't believe i haven't seen it sooner.
of course, i did want to see it when it came out in theatres, i just don't go to the movies much. :[

DariaMorgendorfer 05-09-2009 06:54 AM

I have not yet heard of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, does anyone want to elaborate on that one, cause it sounds very....Interesting, and possibly one to add to my "read over the summer while I am in a cast" list.

tirethminet 05-09-2009 08:51 AM

as far as i can tell, it is pride and prejudice. only with zombies.
from the amazon page:
Quote:

Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read.
i really want to read it, but, you know. there are so many other books that i own that i should be reading first.

Iltu 05-09-2009 02:22 PM

Daria- I am sparking at you! Tremble in feeeeeeeear! Seriously, though, if Stephanie Meyer wants to have sparkling vampires, by all means, let her. Vampires are fictional creatures, and that's actually not a bad twist on them. If one were to do it well. Which... she did not. So that's that. D:

Dream- I am fairly certain I went and ranted to m y mother, whow as erqually apalled. XD

Shadow- I completely agree. Even though it was for kids, Harry Potter was so intricate, well thought out, and overall, and excellent read. Twilight... I don't even know. But I'd say Harry Potter is still the reigning king of modern series, it spoke to way more people around the globe, and across age differences as well. The bulk of it's fan base consisted of something slightly more diverse than girls 12-20.

I SO WANT TO READ PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES. I have it on hold at the library. D: It needs to come in. Now!

Gosh, seriously? GOOD. Because he looked like an alright actor in the Harry Potter films, so I was a bit surprised by his performance. If he's playing him as if he was a person with disabilities, HE'S DOING A HELL OF A GOOD JOB.

Man I love this thread. I was afraid Twilight fanatics were going to hit me as soon as I opened my mouth.

I stole my copy of the movie by the way, never would I dream of giving money to that woman.
Oh, Charlaine Harris is the author of the Southern Vampire series? Someone recommended them to me in this thread once, I'd completely forgotten because I couldn't find them in the library back home. The uni library definitely doesn't have them and I don't have a public library card here.. I should maybe consider getting one next year though, if they have these books. I was very intrigued.

Kendra: Great choice of books! Well, the ones I know. I liked The Great Gatsby a lot, Dracula is fantastic and Lewis Carroll.. well, I hardly need to say anything there. I'm very interested in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but I sort of want to read the original Pride and Prejudice first.
Listening to the audiobook of Twilight makes me not notice the overuse of adjectives as much I think, but every now and then I stop and go "wait.. did she just use five adjectives in a row?"

Tireth: : D
And yes, autism is difficult to talk about because of the difficulty with generalising the symptoms. But there must be some that are more common than others.

With Harry Potter you could at least relate to the characters. I guess co-dependents can relate to Bella.. It scares me how many young girls seem to idolise Edward as the perfect man. I've only just started reading/listening but from what I've heard from people who have read the series, he's such an abusive bastard. And yet, young girls all over still swoon over him, probably becoming more co-dependent as they read. It's sad, and a bit scary.
