I've only listened to one audiobook in my life - Cheaper by the Dozen.
Funniest thing I've ever heard. It's a good story to begin with, but hearing it read aloud always had me rolling on the floor laughing. Twas good times. |
I've listened to a fair few audiobooks, but I think the Harry Potter books were my favorite. :D It's all done by this British guy who does great voices.
|
Sizzla- People tell me Harry Potter is great as an audiobook. I've heard that the Inheritance cycle is awesome too, because the guy does an adorable voice for Saphira or something.
I tried to listen to The Amulet of Samarkand on audiobook last September, but I didn't like the voice at all, so I got like five minutes into it. XD |
I'd be horrible with audio books. I have to do something with my hands while I listen, and whatever that something is usually ends up distracting me to the point where I'm not listening anymore. I'll end up doodling and getting way into what I'm drawing, or my mind will wander, or something like that. xD I've never bothered.
|
Cherry, my problem is that my mind drifts as I listen to things, so I'd miss huge chunks of information. XD I wanted to listen to The Amulet of Samarkand because I'd read it and figured that it would just be fun background noise as I worked on stuff, but, like I said, the voice was awful for the character.

Feyona: As soon as I'm out of the door my room is being turned into a guest bedroom so I imagine all my books will go into boxes and into a cupboard somewhere. Bookcases are a good gift. If I ever get a place of my own I'll probably raid Ikea for bookcases before I've bought anything to sit on. ^^;
ljos: I have Stephen Fry's Moab is my Washpot on audiobook. I'd like to get the audiobook version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy read by him to coincide with the film too. I almost wish I liked Harry Potter just so I could listen to him read for hours. -_- My favourite audiobooks are the early Discworld audiobooks read by Nigel Planer (Neil from The Young Ones). I don't like the Tony Robinson ones, they're abridged and his voice gets on my nerves. That sounds awful, but I just think of him as being Baldrick and the way he gets higher pitched towards the end of a sentence drives me crazy after a while. |

Furniture!: Gah, I used to have a bean bag in my room. Now since the only chair I have in there is an office chair so I tend to read sitting on my bed. >.<
I've never shopped at Ikea because even if I bought furniture I'd have nowhere to put it. If they had anything with a name remotely similar to a ski jumper (woo team Norway) I would have to buy it. ljos: I have the Jeeves and Wooster boxset and series one of ABoF&L (I always want to call it 'Boffle' when I see that) but I've seen the rest at one time or another. There was a stage of very intense Stephen worshipping I went through a year or so ago. ^^; The version of Moab is my Washpot I have is ripped from a cassette, and it is Mr Fry reading it. It's gone missing from iTunes but I think it's about 3 hours altogether. I'm sure when the the Hitchhiker's film came out they released a new audiobook read by Stephen because he was the voice of the guide in it. I was thinking of checking out the newer episodes of the radio series, relatively speaking, of h2g2 because I don't think I've heard anything past the tertiary phase. ITV have put the Granada adaption of Brideshead Revisited on net player and I can't get over the fact that Simon Jones, who was Arthur Dent in the radio and TV series, is the Earl of Brideshead. XD + On the actual subject of books I've started reading Wyrd Sisters and despite the fact I've already had to consult lspace for a couple of references that went over my head I'm enjoying it. ^^ |
So I'm starting on my new list. I've read about 6 books with in the past two weeks. I also just got the new Maximum Ride book so I'm very in the reading mood. It's probably because school ends tomorrow so I'm trying to read my brain dead. Well at least till I have to read my AP Gov. Book.
|
Good luck with your new list, Stormy!
And thanks for reminding me, I've got to figure out what my AP European History books are, and I'm needing to pick up my summer reading books for English as well. >>; |
|
lol no problem! This is my first (and last *is senior this year*) AP class so I'm all holemyshitgottogetthisdone! XD I'm very nervous. Right now I'm trying to motivate myself because the first 12 government cases are due July 9th at 12. >.>
|
Oh my, that sounds like alot of work! D: What all do you have to do? 12 cases sounds like alot... *only has to highlight stuff and take notes on her books for English, doesn't know about history* This is my first AP class as well, but as I'm only a junior this year, I have between two to four more coming my seinior year. XD; AP biology and AP English 12 for sure, perhaps AP statistics and government is well. Depends on how this AP class goes, and also on how sane I am at the time of choosing my classes. :P

Hey everyone~
Just finished reading Watermelon Nights, by Gary Sarris... I recommend everyone read it. |
The tile is absolutely great! I'll look it up, for sure.
Tell me, what did you like about it? |
ljos: My library has a lot of audiobooks but I think it's fairly expensive to borrow them. Otherwise I would have raided their impressive Doctor Who and Torchwood collection by now. ^^;
|
@Iltu:: It is a lot of work! I have to read each case and find what the significance is in each and important facts. A bunch of other stuff as well, I just can't remember it all. The only way I see my self reading this book is forcing myself off my computer and going outside with a blanket to lay down and read. lol, yeah my friend did his scheduling for next year and out of his 8 classes 7 are AP, his 8th one is a study hall. I'm pretty sure his brain is going to melt from the stress. XD
|
Good luck to you! D: That sounds awful. Oh, poor guy! At least he allowed himself that one study hall, or I think he'd go quite insane!
If anyone remembers, a while back I mentioned that my iPod had gone AWOL... She has been found! Rejoice, for The Shiney Doom and her shiny self has been recovered! *dances with her iPod* I'm so glad my mom found it! It was in the laundry room. XD |
I haven't read nearly as much as I thought I would these first few days of freedom...stupid Bejeweled...
|
|
Iltu: Yay for The Shiney Doom! I love finding out what other people have named their iPod/mp3 players. I've had my iPod for three years now and even though it has a stupid name (Bosie) I don't have the heart to rename it.
shadow: Bejeweled! I have a game on my phone which is a rip-off of Bejeweled but with Paris Hilton on it and once I managed to block out her face it's actually quite addictive. >.< ljos: No, our library cards are free. You get a Books card and if you like you can get a Sound & Vision card too. It's free to borrow books but you have to pay to borrow CDs/DVDs/CD-ROMs. I don't know if my library struck a deal with the BBC for audiobooks or something, but they have a lot of their adaptions of novels as well as all the sci-fi radio stuff. When my dad used to play the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game his friend made up a campaign using real places from a village/town in the North East and as a result my mum (who listened into the games) is terrified of going there. My parents stayed over at a friend's house last night so my cat, who usually sleeps in their bedroom, spent the whole night howling. She still hasn't stopped now and they're home. -_- |
Kat- Hehe, I know! When people do actually name their iPods, it's often quite amusing. A friend of mine has an iPod named Waka Laka. XD I almost named mine D'iala, after a friend's character, but D'iala is a man and I decided that my iPod was a girl. Awwww, Bosie is an adorable name! I think I may just have to have a dog named Bosie someday...
Awwww, your poor cat and poor you. :XD Did she keep you up all night, and have your parents given a very big hello to her yet? |
