We've got 159 lists here!
That's awesome, I didn't think we'd get that high this soon. A lot of new people joined these past few weeks.
Hey there Nickle. I actually took this idea from a community on Livejournal - Check it out if you want to.

Congratulations on finishing and good luck with the new job. Will you be trying another reading quest later? Maybe with fewer books considering the job change ^^;

I remember reading about it in the first post, but never actually went to look for it. Thanks for posting a link to it. :D

I used to have 8 hour days at sixth form and that's just the lessons. I could be out of the house from 8 in the morning to after 6 in the evening. I imagine people working probably have even longer hours than that and sometimes, trust me, reading for pleasure is the last thing on your mind. :/
That's why I took the challenge this year and thankfully have managed to rediscover reading after that first year of sixth form almost wiped me out. I'm glad I've finished before uni because there's going to be another manic few months but hopefully I can find a way to fit reading around a busy schedule without going insane.

I feel like I read more when I'm stressed out. My favorite thing to do during the school year is to throw a book in my bag and get to class very early, so I can sit there in the quiet and just read a few chapters. The longer my day, the more I feel like reading. I used to hide away in the library as well, but once I began spacing out my classes, I just couldn't justify sitting there for a few hours at a time. Sometimes I wish my day was a little more hurried so that I wouldn't be tempted to walk back to my room and sleep/go online. :lol:

Heh, this year has been more stressful with my work load but a lot more convenient with my timetable. Long days just really take away my enthusiasm for doing anything else.
My sixth form breaks came in quarter hours and half hours and I managed to find one corridor where the technicians would rather laugh at me than kick me out. I read Good Omens for the first time there while the IT guy kept sneering at me and one of the decorators kept trying to sing to me. I never knew whether or not my friends would be in either so a lot of the time I carried extra work with me rather than books. ^^;

Oh dear, the person whose son I was babysitting is out of a job, which means I don't get babysitting money anymore. Therefore, no more money to buy new books, at least this week :'(
I do hope she finds a steady job for herself, though. She has two kids >_<

Thanks everyone! I probably won't start another challenge until I have a better feel of what my days are going to be like. I start back to work on September 2, so within a week or so of that I should know what I can pull off.
It's not so much finding time to read, as it is finding new books to read. I won't have time to go to the library to look for new books.

Oh no.. I just found out that I have to finish the book tonight. I was so sure today was the 16th. Oh well.. It won't be impossible to finish, just rushed.
And I hope she finds a job too. I know my mom has it hard enough without me even living with her. I can't imagine how it'd be to have two children.

Congrats Sassy!
Well I just got another bookcase. XD
I'm officially out of money until I can get back to work. @[email protected]
I really needed it though, it's the thing tall one like I bought last month (for my manga). I thought I had no wall space left, but I think it's official now. ^_^;

Do you have pictures of it?
I'm always curious about how other people organize their books.
If you show me your's, I'll show you mine. :mrgreen:

I haven't built it yet. I'm going to put it together in a couple minutes.
Manual labor woo! ^_^
I'll take pictures once I get the books on it.

Personally, I don't organize my books in any way. Well, except for manga.. I like to keep them in alphabetical order. :yes:

I'm tempted to post a picture of my bookcase to see if it reduces anyone to tears.
The books I put on the shelves first* are vaguely organised by genre but the less said about the piles of books on top of them, in front of them and not even on the bookcase the better...
* they are there, you just can't see them.

My bookshelves are both in complete disarray. The one at my mom's because I'm doing a complete room overhaul clean-up, and my books are kind of scattered on the book-shelf/floor/dresser/basement. The one at my dad's because I don't want to organize it and then get it reorganized once I haul over all the books that I've discovered don't fit on my bookshelf at my mom's. Though once I have them both under control, I doubt it will be long before I declare that I am in need a a new bookshelf. Half-Price Books and library sales augment my book collection with terrifying speed. :B *bought 20 books on her last jaunt to HPB, and 14 at her last library sale*
I have not been in thsi thread like at all because I have not been reading like at all! It makes me feel like a DUMB IDIOT FACE. :gonk: Just finished A World Lit Only by Fire, though. GOODNESS. I HATED that book. It was like... he TRIED to make history boring! D: There was five interesting pages. In the whole book.

my "book shelf" is really just a plastic stand that my mother brought home. But it hold my books so I can't complain. Though a lot of my books are stacked around the ground. XD I'll have to take a photo of it when my camera comes back from the dead.
As for book updates, I'm starting Sense and Sensibility. So far its a much easier read than P&P was. Maybe thats only because in my mind Colonel Brandon is Alan Rickman. XD
Almost done reading my Ap. Gov book. Its actually a really good read, much better than what I thought it was going to be. ^_^

Alan Rickman does have a divine voice. It's one that people describe as smoky. And he doesn't take himself too seriously.

I can't do anything without a running commentary.
Start placing on bets on how many days/weeks it'll take for the single pathetic shelf you get in university dorm rooms to collapse under the weight of books I will try to put on it!
I like Alan Rickman's Marvin the Paranoid Android. With the greatest of respect to Stephen Moore, he was the best choice for a 'famous' voice.

Stormy- What book would that be? Your AP gov. one, I mean.
Kat- I always have to give a comentary also.
I give it eleven minutes of holding up under your books. When I get a dorm, perhaps I can get rid of the bed in favor of room for a real bookshelf. :B I'm going to have such a time deciding what books to bring and what ones to leave at home, oi... And the next two years of aquiring books before then will NOT help make the desicion easier. I'm pretty sure I own more books than the rest of my immediate family combined.
Alan Rickman conversation- Mmmm, I love that man. I liked that he was in Sweeney Todd, because him singing was WONDERFUL. I was a happy, happy girl.
Book conversation- I'm reading Their Eyes Were Watching God and The Prince right now. Both wonderful books, though I LOVE The Prince. It's fascinating.

This is my 'bookcase' I desperately need a bigger case. XD I have books everywhere. I have a bunch in my closet hidden under old school stuff. The only book missing from my bookcase is my AP on. XD Its in the living room.
@Iltu:My Ap. book is In Our Defense : The Bill of Rights in Action by Caroline Kennedy and Ellen Alderman. It has cases that deal with each of the amendments, I think it goes up to the7th amendment. But I'm not sure, I haven't gotten any farther on it yet. Which is probably a bad thing considering I have this week left to finish my paper that came with it and write an essay on a case. XD
Oh! Alan Rickman was amazing in Sweeney Todd.
How is Their Eyes Were Watching God? I wanted to read it for my 11th grade reading discussion but then I got into the Khaled Hosseini books.
