@Kat: Oh which case did you want from Ikea? That's were I got my last four. XD I just went and got them myself, shipping added 200 dollars to the price. @[email protected]

Dream- 200 dollars for shipping!? o_o That's... wow. Going yourself was a smart idea. XD
Perhaps I'll head to Ikea when I need new shelves. I've only been there once and was frightened, but it was fun. If that makes any sense. At all.

Iltu: Shipping furniture is really expensive. The case was only 49 dollars. @[email protected]
Ikea has really good shelves. ^_^

Dream: It's the smallest of the 'Billy' bookcases. We got the 2010 catalogue through the door the other day. I'd link to the online version but it's Flash and would probably take forever to load just so you could see an old man standing next to his designs. ^^;

There's a similar one in the Argos catalogue I'll probably end up getting but it's slightly wider and shorter.

@Kat: One day I will own that 'Billy' system. They have shelves to go above AND below windows, good corners and then the 'Benno' thin ones fit right in. xD It's weird the website doesn't have them all. oO; I can't even find the small ones I bought.

Dream: Maybe if they charge so much to deliver they don't bother having the cheaper items on the website? I just want to buy that and a few odds and ends like a throw or a vase to make my room seem a little more personal. ^^;

+ I'm reading The Damned United but other than the gratuitous swearing (the 'c' word six times in two sentences is a highlight) it's not having any great impact on me. I'm looking at the words and I want to get the full story but I'm really not taking anything away from it. :/

Dream- Goodness! I guess because furniture is so big and generally costs a ton to ship.
I need to get over to Ikea sometime and take a look at their bookshelves... My dad wants to move into a house that's worth more this winter. Maybe I can use that to score a bigger bookshelf for my new room? "Yo. New room, new, bookcase to match, eh? Eh?" It could work. XD My bookcase at my dad's is little.

I really want to browse Ikea's bookcases, I bet they have really functional ones!

shadowfoot- UNICORNS? I must read those books right this moment! It'll confuse me, though, because David Clement Davies has a Watership Down-esque book about deer called Firebringer. XD

I just finished Blood Promise by Richelle Mead and OH MY GOODNESS. Does anyone else read the Vampire Academy series, maybe? :gonk: I am already looking forward to the next book. I really want to know what happens, as sad as I'll be to see the series end.

Shadowfoot- Haha, already looked them up and put them on hold. Thanks for telling me about them!

Woe!! I started skimming through some other books for a paper/article I've been trying to complete this summer (it has to do with various recordings of Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony, and something about ambiguity and the importance of musicologists listening to more than one recording when analyzing political affiliations...) when I discovered (1) an entire book about "ambiguity" (so he terms irony, satire, parody and "the grotesque") in Shostakovich and (2) an entire article about paying attention to the complicated circumstances of Shostakovich's life, despite the 30 years of scholarship saying yes he was a communist or no he wasn't.

Sorry, had to rant that out.

Basically, SOMEONE'S ALREADY WRITTEN MY ARTICLE!! I'm seeing my advisor on Monday to talk to him about it, but this was a real blow.

Meanwhile, I'll go back to Carmen Blacker's The Catalpa Bow, which is an uncomplicated ethnography of outdated shamanic practices. Which conveniently appear in anime as plotlines and characters, so it's still officially research reading. :)

I got pulled out of school to go to the dentist today, and was mad because I had to miss my two favorite classes... But it actually went nicely. No bad news except I might need a wisdom tooth removed, they're gonna see how things are in six months.
But anyway, the dentist was super busy, so his assistant guy was just kind of hanging in the room while we waited for him. We got to talking about books, and turns out he's also a huge fan of fantasy. We chatted about Lord of the Rings and he reccomended the Tom Covenant trilogy, which sounds super interesting. So that made up for the missed classes. :)

Scholar- Oh my gosh, that sucks! It was a really creative idea, too, I can't beleive someone else did it already. :/ Do you have to come up with and restart a whole new paper now?

Everything counts!

If you want to put it on your list, then go right ahead. We don't have any strict rules here.

I finished The Earth, My Butt, and other Big Round Things today. It was a very quick read, only took about three and a half hours. What a charming book! :D I quite liked it. And I definitely related to some of the stuff in the book.

Anupri- Like Shadow and Knerd said, people can pretty much count whatever they want to count. :)

Well, fortunately I found another way (I think) to angle my article. My point is that there are all these recordings of this highly controversial symphony—people argue variously, based on the coda, Shostakovich's ideological leanings—and they all have different interpretations, some of which sound oppressive, others which sound uplifting. Previous writers have argued simply for the presence of ambiguity in this piece, and I'm going to point out a specific instance....If only the beautiful prose will come...

Anyway, I don't recommend Esti Sheinberg's Irony, Parody, Satire, and the Grotesque... if you're interested in actually learning more about Shostakovich and his music. It's really convoluted and narrow-minded. She has a theory and she applies it rigorously, without looking from side to side to see if there are any other impinging issues she should discuss, like practicalities and common sense, and the real tension of 1930s Russia.

I wish I had an eBook reader. They seem much more expensive here.

Nearly finished The Damned United... the DVD of the film came out on Monday and I think I'd have been better off waiting for that. It's made me want to read a biography or something to find out what Brian Clough was actually like rather than the 'Brian' character in the book.

@[email protected] It's been a while since I've been on (for me at least). I have school from 10 am (I have o leave at 8:30 - 9) till 8 at night twice a week. The days I get out early I have work till 8. I don't know if I'll be on much during the week then. T_T
Though I did read Hawkspar (lots of free time at work) and it was fantastic. It was one of those books I grabbed randomly because the name intrigued me. I've never heard of the author before.

Oh wow. I haven't dropped in here in ages. :/

Pierced eyebrows have always seemed neat to me, but I like lip and tongue rings more. :]
I got my lip pierced finally last week, but my mom said I can't get my tongue pierced until I move out. :lol:

I used to have purple hair but I'm still growing it out from when I dyed over it red.

Don't know if anyone else watched/is interested in Last Chance to See with Stephen Fry on the TV but I just wanted to say I'd recommend the book by Douglas Adams and Mark Cawardine from the original expeditions. ^^
