Ugh I hated RomeoXJuliet. I mean the story was okay and the art was spectacular, but it bored me for some reason. This from the person who read a Final Cut Pro manual... for fun. X_X

I guess it does get boring in the middle and every here and there. The spice to all that was the opening and ending songs because I really liked those ^.^''''' Especially Lena Park. Her voice is AWESOME ~~~ <3 (she's the one that sang the opening "You raise me up")

A part of me wants to watch RomeoxJuliet, and the other part of me screams "NO NO NO" because Romeo and Juliet is one of my favorite things ever, and while I can handle book spin-offs (with some complaining) and the French musical (again, with some complaining) I am not entirely sure I can handle an anime that is loosley based off of it. I mean... I can't even bring myself to watch the version of the movie with Leonardo DeCaprio, watching RomeoxJuliet is a huge stretch. :P

well, you should start off with Leonardo DeCaprio, I heard it's not that far off and it's pretty good.

The Leonardo DeCaprio version isn't that bad. It's still word for word with the play and makes sense. It's just modern. I can understand why you wouldn't like it if you're really in love with the play though. ^^ I haven't watched RomeoxJuliet so I couldn't compare it at all.

I need some recommendations! See, my cousin's birthday is coming up, and I'd like to get her a book. For the life of me, however, I can't think of any age appropriate books with horses. Dx She's seven right now, and I know she already has Black Beauty. Any suggestions?

I don't have a lot of experience with children that age, but I looked at Amazon's recommendations and picked out a bunch of good ones that I remember reading:

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Charlotte's Web by E. B. White
The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary
Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary
Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard Atwater!
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

Oh! I remember there's this series called the saddle club that's about horses. Oh! and don't forget heartland! :) (though I think heartland is more like 8+)

EDIT: and both are about horses :)

Sunlit- I've heard it's pretty dead-on the play, except it being modern, and still... I'm just wary of plays/books to movies sometimes. I liked the version from the 60's well enough, and the ballet, and the musical, I feel like I'm pushing it if I try another version. XD But maybe I will in the next few months.

Riskia- I used to love the Animal Ark books when I was a kid. A child can pretty much understand them with whichever book you start with in the series, and there's a fair few about horses and ponies, if I recall correctly. :)

Risika - I love anything by Roald Dahl. The Witches, The Twits, The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, etc. I love them all. They are really a lot of fun. They are still some of my all time favorite books. I also really like the Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate Events series. It is well written and will teach kids many lessons about life without rolling them around in sugar. Also, if she has Black Beauty- try Peter Pan, Pippy Longstockings, Heidi, Anne of Green Gables or The Wind in the Willows.

When I was six, my mother read to my brother and sister and I every night (and sometimes we also read chapters- I don't remember not knowing how to read and I remember back pretty far in my life). One thing I remember she read to us that I really liked were the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books.

Question: When we start a new reading list, do we just use the same post linked to the front page or start another one. I'm sure this has been answered, but I seemed to have missed it...

Cathy's Book : If Found Call (650) 266-8233 - Sean Stewart, Jordan Weisman and Cathy Brigg?

I just finished it and am half way through the second book already and I started reading them 3 days ago. The books are so addicting!

Oh! today I went to the library and I saw this nice book about horses called the Phantom Stallion or something like that. It's a really thin paperback so I think it would be for kids ^.^

You can make a new post.

I won't force you to keep using a post that could be 2 or more years old.

Is manga not allowed to be in the list? And if it is, should it be counted in volumes or by a whole series?

@Sunlit.rains: I believe it all depends on whether you consider them to be books, so you can count them any way you like. I like to count them as separate volumes, simply because I read several series that are not yet complete. Also, I keep count of my books with and without manga. But it's all a matter of personal preference.

Finished the second book on my list (:
I think I'm making progress ^^

The books from Allende are so good. They are also real Hollywood material. Though I assume the reason why no movie studio has picked them up would be:
1) they would cost a lot of money, considering the locations.
2) the anti-western/materialism critiques that are very dominant in the books.

It's a great read nonetheless (:
