@Risika: He is one of my favorite of her characters, with George being about tied with him...
@Briar: We pretty much make our own rules for our own lists. Whatever we think counts we put down. |
@Shadowfoot: Another George fan? <3 He was my first favorite, as the Lioness Quartet was the first of Pierce's that I read.
Do you know if she has anything new coming out? I'm rather bad at keeping track of such things, haha. |
Thanks Vida. I've been hunting for the first Wallander book but I think it'll be cheap enough to buy second hand somewhere if I can't. Hope you enjoy your book. ^^
Moxie: I've had the first Thursday Next book for a while and just never got around to reading it. Whenever I see a Fforde book on a shelf I'm usually disappointed because they're usually the romance novels by his cousin's wife Katie Fforde. XD |
Kat: I can see how that would be vastly disappointing. I think if I was expecting a quirky urban fantasy/alt universe book and got a romance, I would probably avoid as well.
|
:headdesk: I hate this book! I hate it! *gnaws on the edge*
Why is there no frofing at the mouth emote? xD |
How abotu the one where he is just sitting there in a puddle of his own drool? I think its:
:drool: lol |
I suppose the :squee: emote could be used to suggest rabidness of some sort.
Does the terrible book at least taste nice? |

@Shadowfoot: Ooooh, nifty. *bookmarks* |
Welcome aboard BBchan and briar bare!
Start your lists whenever you like and organize it in a way that easiest for you. This challenge really isn't strict. If you read something and you want it to count as a "book," then you can add it. :yes: |
I think I left The Once and Future King at my mom's house. D: So I'm reading The Incredible Journey instead for now, since I'll have it finished by the end of the day, it's only 145 pages or so. Once I'm done with that, though... Should I read Thorn Queen by Richelle Mead, The Indigo King by James A. Owen, or Nine Gates by Jane Lindskold? I can't decide, because I love all three series and authors...

@Iltu Ooh, I just like the title "Nine Gates" so go with that. xD EDIT: OMG I just read your sig! Anytime I recite that, people think I'm weird! SOMEONE ELSE KNOWS IT!! ^O^ I don't feel like such a freak now. xD;; |
Anthony- Nine Gates it is, then. Haven't read the first book since Spring Break, so I'm really excited for this second one now! I need to read a summary of the first, though, or I'll have a lot less idea what's going on.
It was my best breind's favorite poem, and then I came across it in Valiant and was like, "OMG!" and then researched it and stuff. XD It's such a great poem. |
@Iltu
Good, enjoy it then. ^-^ I know. We read it way back in junior high school, and it's just one of those that stuck with me, like The Jabberwocky. I can recite both to this day with little stuttering. xD I love nonsense poems though. :3 |
guys.
i am a bad person. i've only read one book since i talked to you all last. :c at least it was an actual book and not manga. but i also have several unread manga that are staying unread. it is a sad day when i don't read. ;_; |
@tirethminet
I've not read in far, far too long. It makes me sad. But, I've also no new manga to delve into. xD I miss new manga.... Weep. |
I am pages away from being 1 book in, only 51 more to go xP
|
I'm reading the golden compass right now, its pretty good so far
|
I'm taking a stab at "The Godfather." Since I've never seen any of the movies, it's kinda shocking in the beginning. But the Godfather really can do anything! It's crazy books like this that made me think the Mafia was cool, not for all the bad stuff they did, but just because they were so close to eachother and they always had eachothers' back. You know?
|
Anthony- Good choice based on the title. Two pages in, there's a huge battle going on, someone's arm is chopped off, and my favorite characters are kicking butt and taking names. XD
Awww, poor Leenie. D: *snuggles* Not reading time is sad time. Zephiyr- That sounds really good! I'm putting that on my list of things to read. ^^ |
The endangered leenie! Read more, and don't say school is in the way because I have more classes and work hours then you! Speaking of which, how are your classes?
Erm... I'm adding eight books to my list. XD Including His Dark Materials trilogy! :fist pump: I've only been trying to read that for about oh... five years. I also (re)started the Cirque du Freak series. |
Poor Leenie. Nice to see you around though.
I'm just reading incredibly slowly. My excuse is that the font in this Charlie Brooker book is teeny and it's a collection of articles from his column in the Guardian which all run one after the other without starting on a new page. Dream: It took my mum tonnes of attempts to get past the first chapter of Northern Lights. Congratulations on finishing them all. XD |
I was confused for a second there. I forgot that The Golden Compass was originally called Northern Lights. Why do they rename books from country to country when there's really not a language barrier?
|
Heh, I just forgot. I read the books because a friend of my parents heard the audio version on the radio and thought I would enjoy reading it.
There's an explanation of the change in title in the wikipedia article for Northern Lights which can be summarised into- the publishers liked the sound of it even though it doesn't really make sense. |
That's interesting. I hadn't realized it was renamed. I think part of it depends on what they think will catch more interest. I can honestly say, I was caught by the title "The Golden Compass" and probably would not have stopped to look at "Northern Lights" when searching for a book back in high school. Beyond that, I really don't know. xD It's an interesting phenomenon though.
