@Guirvre: I was never a fan of social commentary, myself. No matter what it was. But then, I liked 1984 and Brave New World, so who knows. I've gotta check it out either way. =]

@Itlu: Congrats!

`Kitami 12-13-2009 05:56 AM

WHERE is Hannibal, MO?
I live in Missouri, and I don't know where it is. >_>;

I also just realized that I have money now, which means that I don't have to rely on the library to read more Laurell K. Hamilton books. @[email protected];;

Nolori::  Mark Twain perhaps wrote the way he spoke, and a lot of Missourians have "silly" accents, though our accents sound normal to us. XD
I have a sort of valley girl/southern accent, which is really odd. But I like the way I sound. X3

Saiyana2 12-13-2009 06:58 AM

Kitami My grandmother grew up in Hannabal and so did Walt Disney.
I saw WATERS OF MARS last night SCAREYYY!!!!! but good.

`Kitami 12-13-2009 07:57 AM

Really? My dad always told me that Disney was from Kansas City. O_o

Melissa 12-13-2009 03:19 PM

Saiyana - Waters of Mars was pretty good. I liked the 'creatures' that were created for the special. I can't wait for the day after xmas when the christmas special is on. XD

Iltu 12-13-2009 09:11 PM

And today, a new book challenge begins for me! Completed last year's, now I'm trying to decide if I want to wait and start on January first, or keep this date. I'm also wondering if I ought to up my goal... Maybe 150? That would be 45 more than I read this year, but I think a fun goal to shoot for.

Nolori 12-14-2009 05:03 PM

@'Kitami: D'oh! I didn't mean that Missourians(?) had silly accents, just that maybe Twain purposely over did it.
And I sound like a valley girl sometimes too. I say "Oh my GOD" and "dude" more than I really should.

@Itlu: Good luck! And why not keep the basic 50 and then move up the bar for yourself if/when you finish?

Guivre 12-14-2009 10:27 PM

Go-go-go Iltu. =D

I get to update my list again, I just read David Mack's Kabuki, "The Alchemist." Picking it up was just like getting to talk to my artist friends. He's really branched out, while keeping some of the same plot elements of the series. Very inspiring and entertaining.

Reeny 12-14-2009 11:08 PM

Hey, hey kids! I just finished #49! I am currently reading #50 and possibly #51 (we'll see when I finish it). I might make it past the mark! Yay!

Guivre 12-14-2009 11:11 PM

Congrats, Reeny. =D

What're you reading now?

Iltu 12-14-2009 11:49 PM

Congrats, Reeny! :D You go, girl.

Thanks, Nolori and Guivre!

KatMagenta 12-15-2009 01:04 PM

Go everyone!

After today my exams will be finished but I'm not going home until Friday so hopefully I'll have more time for reading and reading comics.

`Kitami 12-16-2009 02:37 AM

Nolori:: Oh, no, I think we do have silly accents. XD

Not exactly in 'The Beverly Hillbillies' category, but still pretty goofy.

Eh, I call my mother dude. x_X

Nolori 12-16-2009 03:30 PM

Congrats Reeny!

@KatMagenta: Oh man I hear you about finals. After today my hardest finals will be over and hopefully I can go back to reading some Clarke. I feel like I am way behind on reading. =\

@'Kitami: Pft, so do I. It used to annoy her, but I guess she doesn't really hear me say it anymore. I think whenever I say it we both just kind of tune it out. xD

KatMagenta 12-16-2009 04:17 PM

They were mostly just end of term exams since we're only half way through the year but they were still worth quite a large percentage.

Apparently the way I say the word 'book' is so hilarious everyone (including relative strangers) repeats it back to me. ¬_¬

EmptyMind 12-18-2009 08:58 AM

What are the rules on this exactly?

I think I'll want to do a list of books to read. I shall start thinking of some...

The goal is to read 50 or more in a year's time? Oh, I re-read the first post. Yes of course it is.

Well, I am interested to do this for this year. But how often would one post up their updated list?

RisikaFox 12-18-2009 10:13 AM

Actually, you only need one post for your list, and you can edit it any time you like. Some people also like to post their thoughts on recent reads, it could even start an interesting discussion.

Nolori 12-18-2009 04:24 PM

@KatMagena: May I ask where you're from? I mean, do you have an accent that isn't native to wherever you live?

KatMagenta 12-18-2009 06:31 PM

I'm from Sunderland in the North East of England (think Cheryl Cole but not quite, she's from Newcastle) but I go to university in Glasgow. It's specifically the word 'book' that brings the lulz but someone couldn't tell the difference between me saying "work" and "Warrick" the other day.

I'm going home tonight actually so I'll probably be teased about sounding Scottish.

I hope you arrived home safely Kat!

Dream_and_Die 12-19-2009 04:00 AM

:sits down with a pile of books:
Okay my list is so out of date. I've plowed my way through six of Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series and I started a new Manga (well Manwah really).

yukihimedono 12-19-2009 09:35 AM

This sounds like a really fun challenge. I'll have to get together some of the books I've read this year, but I'm not sure if it will be every thing. I'll post up what I can find but I think I will start seriously on January 1, 2010. As for a goal, hmmm, I'll think about a number I don't think I'll pass. (I read too much, really.)

Iltu 12-19-2009 03:13 PM

I started Tailchaser's Song at the beggining of this week, but due to exams, I didn't have much time to read... Hopefully I'll be able to finish it today and knock out some other books before the end of break! I actually have a fair few library books due the fist day after, so we'll see how that goes. XD

I think it was Shadowfoot that mentioned Tailchaser's Song to me? Thanks for the reccomendation, it's a cute story. ;)

Guivre 12-19-2009 07:40 PM

Hi yukihimedono! =D

I never did get around to reading Tailchaser's Song, or anything in that series. I've liked other anthropomorphic cat books though. I really enjoyed reading Reserved for the Cat by Mercedes Lackey last Fall. I mean, not every moment in it was perfect, but she has a very pleasant writing style, and some of the ideas were very clever.

Right now I'm reading a huge tome on Live Foods, which is something I've wanted to read up on for awhile. I've known about the Raw Foods movement forever, but wasn't that familiar with the live foods concept. I know how beneficial good bacteria is, being a big fan of yogurt, but otherwise ...

It's like, 10 books in one, so I can't really remember the name of it right now. Hopefully I'll have finished it by the next time I post so I can mention it.

Knerd 12-20-2009 01:12 AM

So the new year is almost upon us:
Has anyone else planned what their first book of 2010 will be?

Right now, I'm thinking that I'll read Monkey, the Chinese novel translated by Arthur Waley. It's sat on my shelf for way too long.
