Aisha: I like both versions. They have their differences but overall the movie was a good adaption of the book.
LaVida: Haha, what kind of Asian class are you taking?
Roxi: Thats so cool! Goodluck on becoming one!

Roxxxy -- I totally forgot new books were coming out in that series. (Well, that is in the last few years.) I really should find out what happened to those characters. D= I just got very tired of that series somewhere in the middle of Plains of Passage.

Lol LaVida. =D

Vida is Asian? I mean, I can't imagine how one could accomplish an Asian fail without being Asian... Unless you're just really, really awesome. xD

lmao, Asian failing is more or less applied to any score under 80% and it usually doesn't matter that much if you're Asian or not XD it's the whole point where people treat under 80's as failing XD

I know it's a stereotype but both of the Chinese girls I've been close friends with in real life have had really pushy parents who probably would see 80% as a fail. :/

I finished Vile Bodies, hurrah! It got more fun towards the end but I'm still glad that I can start a new book now.

@LaVida: I still read through my classes, and I think my GPA is still around a 3.75 or higher. I got really lazy. 4.0 is annoying to maintain. :shrugs:
I would be that person who hates hates to fail (getting below an 85 BURNS my soul).

@Roxxxy: I love those books! Funny story, when the last one came out I was young and some how convinced my parents to buy it for me because mating didn't mean "mating" it meant getting marriage - Oh innocence, where did you go? So I read that one first, my friend made his mission to buy me the rest for my birthday this year so I can finally read them all.

@Kat: I know what you mean I have a friend who our freshman year in high school built - BUILT - a computer, and what does his dad say? "It doesn't run fast enough, it's out dated."
All stereotypes are based on some grain of fact.

@MizumiO: I know what that's like. xD

Dream & Kat >> lol, I have no idea how GPA's or whatever works XD but I do have friends who would flip out if they got under 90% and they said that if they ever get as low-marked as I was they would kill themselves (I'm pretty sure they mean it figuratively ^.^'''')

GPA's are pretty easy if you break it down into number grades. A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F=0

My college and a few others around her break it down a little more. 4.0 means perfect, straight A's (Most colleges have B-'s and B+'s but no A - or A+'s). Low A's are usually 3.75's and up and 3.0 - 3.75 are B's. 2.0 - 2.99 are C's normally and below that are D's and F's. These aren't exact but If you have above a 2.5 Your fine, that's the average I think.

I'm British, I don't think we use that system, or put as much emphasis on it at least.

Well, my university uses grade point averages but they've made the numbers really random, an A is 16 down to a G (that's even a grade?) which is 2. Everyone still refers to the grades by letter though. You need higher than a D (officially more than 11) to get into an honours course in third year.

So I've been buying books left and right over the past few weeks, even though I'm still chewing on Dracula (the writing is dry enough that I can't seem to sit down with it for long periods of time)... and one of the most interesting ones that I've found/bought this year is Zombie Haiku by Ryan Mecum.

Sure, it plays into the zombie fascination I've had for the past few years... but seriously. Haikus about the undead? It was definitely an attention grabber!

Especially when you consider the example haikus on the front cover...

I am so stoked to read this!

Hello, I just started my challenge and I'm on my third book now. I just started The Zombie Survival Guide and it's really good so far. Anyone know any other sci-fi or horror genre books that I could be on the lookout for?

I haven't read either of them personally but I know World War Z is the follow up to The Zombie Survival Guide. My friend bought them for her boyfriend. ^^;

Wow. I feel a little behind. ^^;;

I got sick recently and hadn't been able to read. But I'm back in full force.

It looks like a lot of people were talking about shelfari. There's a sight that I like called fictiondb.com. It's similar to shelfari.

Quote:
World War Z was inspired by The Good War, an oral history of World War II by Studs Terkel; and by the zombie films of director George Romero. Brooks used World War Z to comment on social issues like government ineptitude and American isolationism, while also examining themes of survivalism and uncertainty. Critics have praised the novel for reinventing the zombie genre; the audiobook version, performed by a full cast including Alan Alda and John Turturro, won a Audie Award in 2007. A film based upon the book is in development, produced by Plan B Entertainment, directed by Marc Forster and with a screenplay by J. Michael Straczynski.
Wow, that looks like a must-read. =D

Hmm. Sometimes libraries will buy books if you request them. Zombie haiku would be fun to read. A lot of poetry is very dry. I just reread the Archy and Mehitable poems again recently. It's sad to have to look to poetry that came out 100 years ago to find something fun yet smart. It's like only poetry for children is allowed to make you giggle. D=

Well, I personally have no idea how to request books at a library...seriously ^.^'''', since usually when I look for a book, it's in the registry and if it isn't there, I wait for a week, and it's on the registry XD
