A piece of advice for divasri...One never knows what they can accomplish until they jump in and try. Check out your local library for free material and thrift stores for reading on the cheap. Give it your best shot. ^_^

@LaVida: I've read the backs of all her books (mostly because there's no numbers on them to tell the order) so I heard that the new trilogy is way out in the wilderness. Still can't wait to get my hands on them. xD

Guivre 03-05-2010 06:12 PM

La Vida -- well sometimes in life you need the information. I've already read some original source material on William Penn, and god that was enough 17th century english for me.

One problem with biographies is that they tend to be a bit more formulaic than other non-fiction. If you're well acquainted with certain biographers you can avoid that. The multi volume biographies tend to avoid that trap.

I am not huge on biographies but I really prefer non-fiction to fiction.

unseenchii -- just uh, use that chii! I'm sure you can squeeze in some time somewhere. Sometimes I just read a couple of pages before bed. I read little bits while I wait for appointments, etc. It adds up. =D

LaVida 03-05-2010 09:05 PM

divasri>> it's fine, you can read 10 or 20 or 30 books if you want :) I didn't think I'd be able to read 50 books either, so I set my sights on 25 for this year :)

Yana 03-05-2010 11:03 PM

I'll take up the challenge!!! I certainly don't have any lack of free time, and my boyfriend has a massive awesome book collection. 50 books shouldn't be too hard.

allometric 03-05-2010 11:06 PM

@LaVida I sure did just say that you can read graphic novels online. Normally I download issues in a .cbr file format and read them using a program called CDisplay. Not the same as leafing through it in life, but when you don't have the option (poor library selection, no friends with the issues/TPB, no money to just buy the things) it's certainly a relief to find them online.

HTMLcomics is a great free resource! MANY comics, and they act under the library clause so it's not, you know, illegal.

KatMagenta 03-05-2010 11:19 PM

Sorry for butting in but thanks for mentioning CDisplay. I've been using Comical on my desktop computer at home but it seemed to have a real problem getting the scale right on double page view on a widescreen dispay.

Now I can't put off reading 52 any longer! Woo.

LaVida 03-06-2010 11:39 PM

Dream_and_Die>> only book one of the trilogy's out in my library >.< I can't wait until there's more <3 and it is totally out in the wilderness and a TON of magic and gods and the likes :)

allometric>> wow! that...is...NICE @[email protected] wow....so......many....*faints* lol, wow that really is a lot XD I'll check it out as soon as my dad fixes the darned internet connection, it keeps on disconnecting :(

KatMagenta>> 52? what's that one about?

KatMagenta 03-06-2010 11:56 PM

52 was a series intended to fill in the space between the end of Infinite Crisis and the start of 'One Year Later' (where all of the stories jumped a year forward). It focuses more on some 'minor' DC characters too.

My fail knowledge of comics will probably come and bother me at some point but it's been a good read so far.

yukiperson 03-07-2010 12:47 AM

i know i could do it
it has been only3 months
and i have already read about20books

Kaidatiger 03-07-2010 01:45 AM

awrrr ok so Shadow's edge is proving to be better than expected I wish I could read right now but I can't cause if I turn my light on my son will wake up and that's no fun ; ;

Melissa 03-07-2010 09:58 PM

I just finished reading an advanced readers copy of His Darkest Hunger by Juliana Stone.

Okay so I read it because I figured it'd be an easy read...just some trashy romance for fun (which took me two months to read lol). As I read the story started out good and then slowly spiraled into crap. Maybe the edited version that comes out later this month won't be as horrible. It had such good potential.

LaVida 03-07-2010 11:57 PM

KatMagenta>> lmao, if you have fail knowledge of comics, then I have super super fail knowledge of comics XD

Iltu 03-08-2010 12:33 AM

Agh, I really need to update my list, but I have all my info on the books I've read since my last update saved at my mom's house. :gonk:

LaVida 03-08-2010 12:39 AM

Iltu>> wow, really? what about a nice, fast phone call? (the wonders of technology daily :) )

Iltu 03-08-2010 12:44 AM

LaVida- Well, I'll be there tommorow after school, so if I've waited this long already. :XD

LaVida 03-08-2010 12:50 AM

Iltu 03-08-2010 12:55 AM

LaVida 03-08-2010 01:07 AM

17/50?

hmm...yea...that reminds me, I got to go catch up too....I only got 17/25 done...lol, hey! we both read 17 of our books! XD

Iltu 03-08-2010 01:10 AM
