Hey guys!
I finally finished Monster a week or so ago... things have been so busy this year! I really don't think that I'll meet the goal. I'm still chewing on Geek Love and Dracula, too. Though I keep feeling the need to deviate and move on to my Chelsea Handler book. |
I just made some major revisions to my book list (which you can check out in my sig if you want) and weeded out a bunch of books that I knew I was never going to read and replaced them with books that I will read. Yay! I'm up to 8 finished books now, which isn't as many as I'd like, since I'm going for 100, but now that it's summer, I'm going to be reading a lot. (After I get done moving, that is!)
Most recently I finished (for school) Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, and Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I'm currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman and Cheek by Jowl by Ursula K. Le Guin. |
I never could get into Heart of Darkness... I still own the copy that I bought for school, but I can't say that I ever finished it. That and The Scarlet Letter are the two books I got by in class with Cliff Notes.
But oh gosh. Wilde is one of my heroes |
Wilde is great. I'm really looking forward to reading Dorain Gray soon.
Heart of Darkness struck me pretty strongly when I read it for class, which admittedly was partly due to the discussions we had, but also partly because it seems so psychological and mythic. I ended up writing a paper about it which I think turned out really well. (Instead of writing about it's style or themes, I psychoanalyzed it, which was really challenging and fun.) |
Dorian Gray was phenomenal! It's probably my favorite of his works. I reference a ton when I write stories and RP posts and such. I'm sure you'll love it!
I'm not sure why I couldn't get into it... I might have to go back and try reading it again now that I'm so far removed from the book. After all, that was over six years ago, so it's worth a shot |
My Wilde senses were tingling. xD
I recently went through my desk (I was looking for a book) and I found my stack of high school and some of my college papers. I think I've done a paper on either Wilde or one of his books every year since I was 14. Scary part is they're not all for English. x'D How was Lavinia Chexala? I've been meaning to get that but just haven't gotten around to it. |

My friend taking English Lit had already read Heart of Darkness but he said he enjoyed it again anyway.
I've more or less finished Starship Titanic today after starting it this morning. My flat mate not waking up until 2pm is very conducive to just sitting reading quietly. |

I bought my copy of American Gods from HMV when all of the books seemed to be £3. I probably cleared them out of Neil Gaiman and Stephen Fry books. XD

As of 26th May 2010. Will be updated as and when.

Welcome to the challenge, Hufflebean. =D
I just finished a non-fiction book, Winging It, by Jenny Gardiner, about family life with an African Grey parrot. I have to say that it was terrible, and a painful read for an animal lover. Avoid it at all costs! Even if you're stuck on a transatlantic flight and somehow that's your only reading material. Or something. Anyway, that book is adding to my dislike of books written by bloggers. Not necessarily blogs turned into books, however. |

They don't seem to sell as many books as they used to since they refurbished the HMV in my hometown but they still have room for at least two shelves of Twilight, books about Twilight and books that are somewhat similar to Twilight. ¬_¬
I started Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Simon Armitage's translation) today and I've been reading it aloud so the people in the flats around me probably think I'm mental. |

numerica>> welcome to the thread :3 |
So far, I have failed at doing this challenge. I don't even remember how few books or pages out of a book that I've read this year. ^ ^;
|
@Sora -- Oh well, you can always start today and keep track this time. =D
|
lol, I should read the books on my list.....but I always tend to get distracted XP
|
:distraction!:
I can't even focus on the books on my shelf in my room. New books scream to me; "buy me, buy me!" :sigh: |
lol, it's almost the same over here, except that I don't have that much money to spend and books at libraries scream "read me" instead XD
|
That too. I've taken out over 25 books in the pat two months. They refuse to believe that I'm reading all that.
|
hah hah, thick hardcovers? I doubt I can read that much XD but manga makes it look like that much XD once, I had 30 manga books arrive at the same time and all the librarians were like "I was wondering who that belonged to" XD
|
xD
I've been eating through the Xanth books (I think I'm on number 28 now) and various other books which I'm getting all from the library. That's why there's so many. ^_^ The actually brought out books from storage because they thought a bunch of people were getting back into Mr. Anthony. XD |
I just finished Wicked. It has a whole new writing style that I fell in love with. I'll be reading more of his books for sure :)
