Woohoo! Finished Through the Looking Glass. I liked it WAY better than Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I still have about nine hundred or a thousand pages left of the complete works of Lewis Carroll, but they all seem like they'll be fast, whimsical reads. And of course, I'm punctuating reading it with other books!

Knerd- One of my friends has to drive four hours across flat, boring country I think... six times in the next three weeks. Probably by herself for most of the drives. She wasn't thrilled about it, but since she keeps telling me she wants to reread the seventh Harry Potter book, I thought of you and suggested she get the audio book from the library. She was very pleased with the idea.
Thought you ought to know you helped solve a problem!

Knerd 07-10-2010 09:21 PM

Woo, hooray!
The seventh audiobook is something like 26 hours long. That should keep her going for a nice long time.

Iltu 07-10-2010 09:25 PM

I knew it would have to be at least 20 hours. Now she'll have plenty of entertainment!

FeyonaSaibre 07-10-2010 09:37 PM

I feel really slow... I've only finished one book recently and it was like... less than 100 pages long... T_T My life may be too full for this now.

scholar 07-11-2010 01:35 AM

I've updated my list -- actually, need to add another complete book, yay!

KatMagenta 07-11-2010 05:46 PM

On my third attempt I've finally gotten past the first few pages of Unseen Academicals. Quite fitting with all this World Cup business going on.

Sometimes, very rarely and very begrudgingly, life has to come before books. Hope things calm down for you soon Feyona.

LaVida 07-12-2010 02:07 AM

Kat>> FIFA just ended today :P Spain won 1-0 Netherlands/Holland, geez, why're there so may names? >:d

Iltu 07-12-2010 02:21 AM

Kat- Do they somehow relate to the World Cup? I want to look into them!

LaVida- I already can't wait for the next World Cup! I hope I can actually go to Brazil for it...
Anyway, go Spain! *cheers* I was happy they beat the Netherlands.

HappyStarr 07-12-2010 02:58 AM

Ahhh! I still haven't made my list. T_T Oh well. As soon as the event's over, I should get crackin' on that...we just went to Borders this week, too, so I've got a few books to get started.

Because Holland (or "Zuid-Holland," South Holland) is actually one state out of the Netherlands. It's like California or Ontario.

Wow, the Netherlands made it to the finals! I've been paying no attention this year, but when I lived in the Netherlands I did, and that was fun.

LaVida 07-12-2010 06:02 PM

Iltu>> yup, spain won :3 just as the psychic octopus predicted :3

anime_scholar>> wowies @[email protected] thanks for clearing that up XD me and my dad thought it was the same thing XP

KatMagenta 07-12-2010 08:10 PM

I knew that LaVida, I'm a massive football fan (although sadly an English one) and watched as many matches as I could. =P
I'm a member of some football communities on LJ so they'll be going on about it for weeks, especially the huge female Spain fan-base.

The amount of Ponder Stibbons in Unseen Academicals so far has been very pleasing. I loves me some 'minor' Discworld characters.

Roxxxy 07-12-2010 08:13 PM

Feyona: Hang in there. This challenge has been tough on me lately as well.

HappyStarr 07-12-2010 08:25 PM

What's this psychic octopus I keep hearing about? 0.o

KatMagenta 07-12-2010 08:34 PM

Paul the 'Psychic' Octopus. He predicted all of Germany's matches correctly and that Spain would win the final. There's lots of boring science-y stuff (says a Chemist) but it's just a bit of fun really.

HappyStarr 07-12-2010 09:18 PM

dangg...that's kinda cool!

TaiyoTsuki 07-12-2010 09:29 PM

Just finished another manga series.

Dream_and_Die 07-14-2010 04:20 PM

@TaiyoTsuki: What series?

So I finally finished Xanth! Woo! :falls over flat: On to Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
I should update my list tonight... xD

R. Wiggly 07-14-2010 04:54 PM

I might try to do this as a resolution for the New Year next year. That way, I have time to prepare. LOL.

TaiyoTsuki 07-14-2010 06:52 PM

@ Dream: Rosario+Vampire. Now to wait until the library gets Season II of the manga in...

Iltu 07-14-2010 07:19 PM

If any of you are fans of fantasy, I highly recommend the Fey series by Kristine Kathryn Rusch. It's phenomenal.
I really want to just tear through them, but I made a rule for myself that I can only read the next one after I've read a Harry Potter book, a section of the complete works of Lewis Carroll, and one of my summer reading books (any book once I'm done with those). One, I'll regret it if I read these books too quickly, and two, I'm way behind on my list so I'm hoping that this rule will prompt me to fly through books so I can get to the next installment of the Fey series.

scholar 07-14-2010 07:35 PM

You have to force yourself to read the Harry Potter books?? *is aghast*

TaiyoTsuki 07-14-2010 07:37 PM

Whenever I finish a Harry Potter book I tear into the next one and I don't read anything else until I'm done with the entire series. Finished Sorcerer's Stone last night, and then turned around and started in on Chamber of Secrets. I'm alread four or five chapters in! My mom almost had to take the book out of my hands to get me to go to bed.

Now that I think of it, she had to do a lot of that when I first started reading. She'd get up in the middle of the night to take a leak, and she'd discover me reading Harry Potter at like 2-3 in the morning. No wonder I was always so crabby in second grade! :P

Chexala 07-14-2010 07:41 PM

I finally finished reading Cheek by Jowl by Ursula K. Le Guin. It's a collection of essays about writing, fiction, fantasy, and animals, and as usual, Le Guin is sassy and on form.

I really liked it, but because it was an essay collection, it was easy to take up and put aside, so I spent over two months working my way through it. That's fine as far as it goes, but since I'm working 10 different books right now, it was annoying too, so I'm glad to be done.

AishaLeigh 07-14-2010 07:44 PM

LOL i didn't read the harry potter books till they came out with the second to last book and i read the last book when it first came out on pdf file.

i finished magic study by maria y. snyder. its a trilogy and it follows a girl named yelena as she finds her family and goes off to be trained as a magician. its pretty good to be honest. i enjoyed myself with it. now i'm reading or attempting to read eragon by christopher paolini.
