Too much effort to update my list from my phone but I read The Sign of Four today and by some happy accident I can at least read the last three Holmes books in order after muddling my way through the rest. ^^;

Edit: List updated now, unsure what to read next. Might pick something at random from my bookcase tonight.

Knerd 08-26-2010 11:00 PM

Random picks are the best kind.

I haven't been planning ahead much, either. Lately I've just been grabbing whichever book is within reach. I think I'm reading three different ones right now?

KatMagenta 08-26-2010 11:17 PM

I can't read more than one book at once. I'm just not clever enough to avoid total confusion.

There are certain books I want to read but I don't own them and the book shops at home aren't big enough to hide in for hours. XD

TaiyoTsuki 08-27-2010 12:18 AM

I'm not gonna have much to read once I'm done with the Doctor Who and Torchwood books I managed to sneak along to college. My mom has effectively banned me from having more books down here than what I already have.

My blog is actually suffering another unplanned hiatus because I lost my pedometer two weeks ago.

I plan on updating as much as possible this weekend, but we'll see what the future holds. It's a bit difficult to "travel" anywhere if I don't know how far I've walked that day.

What pedometer did you have? I'd like to get one for myself, just to see how much my wandering around the campus actually is.

Car'a'Carn 08-27-2010 06:45 AM

I'm adding another book to my list! Lord Valentine's Castle by Robert Silverberg. I met a fellow juggler today in the park who was inspired to learn how to juggle after reading this book so I want to give it a try too.

@TaiyoTsuki - You could always do Ebooks. I know you don't get to smell the printed pages and feel their rough texture but they sure do save a lot of room! :P

KatMagenta 08-27-2010 02:58 PM

My mum asked me if I'd look at my books while I was at home. 50+ books in a pile to give away later I still can't quite get all my books in the bookcase properly. -_-

I don't have a proper ebook reader but I can read them on my phone. The BBC has some classic Who ebooks for download here if you'd be interested in those Taiyo.

TaiyoTsuki 08-27-2010 09:24 PM

@ Car: I would, if I could find some free ones and had a mobil device that didn't go weird when I downloaded them. Besides, I can always loan stuff in through the campus library.

@ Kat: I dissagree with your siggy pic!

Car'a'Carn 08-28-2010 04:24 AM

Gotcha. I kinda want to get a mobile device but I haven't made up my mind yet. I tend to just go to torrent sites and download books that way to read on my computer. Library is a good idea though! It completely slipped my mind... I really need to go visit the library. It's been probably 2 or 3 years since I've stepped foot in one  Ok well that's not entirely true. I was in my college's library earlier this spring but I don't feel like college libraries count for some reason XD

TaiyoTsuki 08-28-2010 05:22 AM

College libraries count to me. A library's a library.

And yes, I know; it's 12:30 in the morning and I'm still on. I acknowledge the fact that I'm a sleep-deprived crazy person. *bows as if to an audiance*

Rinchi 08-28-2010 09:10 AM

I've read three books a day for a whole year... I'm not sure what I haven't read and what I've already read. Does re-reading something count? (I accumulated 3000 books in three years once when the thrift store sold them at $0.10 USD. I don't have a lot of them anymore due to not having enough storage space.) Also, I'm not sure about our library having a wide selection... but I think it participates in borrowing books from other libraries... I'm not sure.

Iltu 08-28-2010 01:49 PM

I'm reading a few different things right now, but I'm determined to settle in and finish Dracula. I'm on page two, which is pathetic, but pretty soon I'm gonna get me some breakfast and then sit my butt down and read for a few hours! Also, that book looks like it's 250 pages, tops, but I checked and it's close to 400. I'm not sure how they crammed that many pages into such a tiny book, but they did. I'm so happy about that though, I like books that give themselves time to tell a good story, plus I'm trying to keep my page to book ratio high.

Also, finished rereading The Order of the Phoenix yesterday. What an excellent job J.K. Rowling does with her characters in that book! As phenomenally as she does them in every book, the tensions and interactions between them in the fifth are especially incredible, in my opinion. :) [/babbling about herself and her books]

Rinchi- That's really impressive. Wish I had that kind of reading speed and dedication. Good on you!

Rinchi 08-28-2010 03:24 PM

It took years to get that reading speed down. I started out not being able to read well at all, but that was several years ago. I could only read then a single book in 12 - 15 hours. Reading was all I did one summer though really.

Maybe I should see if the library has copies of Harry Potter to lend out... since I haven't yet read that. However I'm not going to read Twilight... but I'd like to get my hand on some Dracula book or Barnaby Collins (I used to have a collection that I got from my aunt, but I don't know where they went sadly).

I prefer writing, but a writer should always be a reader too.
Anything you suggest reading, something like C.S. Lewis?

TaiyoTsuki 08-28-2010 05:37 PM

Hello again. Updated my list at last. Just finshed reading the Hellsing manga!

RisikaFox 08-28-2010 06:48 PM

So... I went on a road trip with my sister. And I didn't read a single page in the nearly two weeks I was gone. Dx Where is my motivation?

Knerd 08-28-2010 07:21 PM

Aren't reading slumps the worst?

I don't know about you, but I'm looking around my room right now and I have all these amazing books piled up. I can't wait to read every single one. But then the time comes for me to go to bed and I haven't touched a single one.

It's depressing.

TaiyoTsuki 08-28-2010 07:23 PM

I know the feeling. I don't really have to worry about that much now, because I don't have many books at my college now...

WAAAH!

RisikaFox 08-28-2010 10:12 PM

@Knerd: I know, right? I also have many unread books, yet here I am, mindlessly browsing the internet. xD

Knerd 08-28-2010 11:44 PM

Well, at least we're reading.
The words just aren't in book form, that's all.

TaiyoTsuki 08-29-2010 04:24 AM

@ Knerd: True.

I'm having fun watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Watch me stay up till 3 am again! :P

RisikaFox 08-29-2010 10:11 AM

xD I suppose that is true. I'm not playing games, so it's not too awfully bad. Maybe if I do some dusting, my books will forgive me?

@Taiyo: Oooh, how is Brotherhood doing? I started watching it awhile back, but got lazy, haha.

KatMagenta 08-29-2010 02:21 PM

Taiyo: I have no idea which icon in particular offended you, it's random. ^^;

I finished Nightshade which was fairly depressing although Mark Gatiss did say it was quite dark in the accompanying notes.

TaiyoTsuki 08-29-2010 07:04 PM

@ Kat: It's the one that bashed Star Trek.

@ Risika: It's about as good as the manga. I like they guy they got to play Ling!

KatMagenta 08-29-2010 08:51 PM

This one?

It's a quote from Red Dwarf.
Quote:

Kryten: Is this the human quality you call friendship?
Lister: Don't give me any of that Star Trek crap. It's too early in the morning.

Personally, I like Star Trek. If you refresh for long enough you'll find a Malcolm Reed icon too. XD

TaiyoTsuki 08-30-2010 12:42 AM

I still disagree with it!

Then again, I'm a Star Trek nerd.
