I so want those! All my book money goes towards things like... *checks shelves* Ah. Research Guide to Japanese Film Studies. :headdesk: If the library doesn't have it, or if it's stuck in a constant I-recall-they-recall cycle, I generally decide to just buy it.

Sounds like me. And if I'd had the money (this goes back to my dad being the biggest cheapskate-assole alive) I'd have been to England for the openning of the seventh book as well.

Well, I was living in the Netherlands, so it cost almost nothing to go there. Most of the money was spent on a crappy B&B where the floor slanted so much one could actually fall out of the bed if you weren't careful, but it was in Earl's Court so it was awesome nonetheless.

I love London!

@andiicandii -- you should totally make your list and post it!

@Risikafox - The kinds of regular books I like are fantasy novels, SciFi Space novels, Action Adventure novels like Clive Cusslers DIRK PITT novels, and other stuff too but those are my main three favorites. And thank you for all the recommendations! I'm gonna have to go to the book store this week and find one of those to start!

@Taiyo - Oh good! More recommendations! Thanks! I've heard of Bleach before so I think I will try and get that one along with MeruPeri that RisikaFox recommended.

Thanks guys!
Also getting close to the finish of The Foundation!

Ah! I do that all the time! I've got an entire bookshelf devoted to... strange reference books I couldn't get any other way. I was SO excited when I got an excellent book on Japanese Architecture in the mail. It has diagrams and everything! :boogie:

But, even if I find it cheap on Amazon used, it's still an expensive habit. And oh, heaven forbid I have to ship it from Japan - if the book doesn't kill me, the shipping surely will. XD

Ooh, what book is this, Jezriel?

I hear you about Amazon Japan shipping -- it's usually more expensive than the item itself! I paid over $60, including shipping, for a R2 copy of the Sailor Moon R Movie. It was totally worth it, of course, because I learned that there's a menu setting where you can watch the entire film karaoke-style -- even speaking the lines and all!

I've signed up for a shipping service that lets me buy things overseas and have it sent to essentially a Japanese PO box in my name. Then they wrap it all up together and send it to me in one shipment. It's supposed to save me money by combining packages, but I think their handling fee is high enough it ends up being about the same. >.>'

Let me go check the title.... *gets up and checks the bookcase A*

Gah. I can't find it now. I think I got it out to help my fiancee build something in Little Big Planet, and he put it somewhere 'safe' for me. I've only got a book case or three in every major room in my tiny house.... It's here somewhere.

We squashed all the bookcases into the ex-bedroom, now my office. Three seven-footers (well, three and a half-width), three four-footers, all of the IKEA Billy variety. Oh, and the two-foot width one in the corner. The room is about 10'x12', and there's also my desk, two chairs, three cellos, and a cat tree... I wish I had a house with more rooms! :)

I've heard of those services with Japanese P.O. boxes. How much does it cost, if I can ask?

Cost depends on the service and weight of package, usually.

I first started doing this because I wanted some Japanese language games, and amazon.jp won't ship those to America. So I got sneaky. Bought used so the shipping fees were mitigated slightly... and now I've got a few games.

Here's the first service I used Tenso - they don't give you options in what kind of shipping, it's straight up EMS. If you buy a bunch of used music cd's off of amazon.jp for a yen each + 450 shipping to your drop box, they will EMS you each package SEPARATELY. This is not a good deal, so try to buy all from one place that will ship it together to your drop box in the first place.

DankeDanke is the one that combines shipping and allows a choice of what kind of shipping. But their service fees are a LOT higher. So unless you're saving that much by having them repack it for you, like a bunch of otherwise cheap items, then Tenso is probably better.

Just finished reading Natsuki Takaya's Songs to Make You Smile yesterday. ^^ It's a couple of short stories, all written at various points in time, so the art style varies a bit from story to story. It's really cute, and I was especially happy to read Princess Dark Black. It's a short AU story based (very loosely) on the tale of Snow White, featuring characters from her series Tsubasa: Those With Wings.

@Smiles: Oh, I love that series by Cate Tiernan. I don't know that I've ever finished it though...

@Scholar: If I could write, I would. I think I'll just cheer everybody on instead. ^^

Good luck, Smiles!

Scholar- Last year I failed miserably at NaNoWriMo thanks to school, family, work, and having to share a computer among four people. This year I've a laptop, so hopefully it will go better! But I don't know if I'll go strictly by the 'start something new' rule, I think I'll retry what fell through last year. I didn't work on it much this past year. I'm in it for the support more than anything!

@ Carn: He writes fantasy. I'm reading a series of his called The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. It's quite interesting. So far there's four books in the series (The Alchemist, The Magician, The Sorceress, and The Necromancer) and a fifth one to come out (The Warlock). I've become quite attached to the series.

[email protected] figures bent for the use of fantasy in modern fiction. XD

Two more manga novels down. 7 more and I can re-read for the purpose of grabbing vocab words that I didn't understand. (japanese manga for study and fun)
