Thanks RisikaFox. ^^ I'm on summer holidays at the moment, so I decided to read plenty while I can to make up for times when I'm studying and aren't able to read as much.

The following is what Rapunzel's Revenge is about:

Rapunzel's Revenge is a graphic novel. It starts off with a story vaguely similar to the Rapunzel fairy tale most people are familiar with. From there it's a western cowboy style story about her journey to save her real mother and everyone else from the wrath of the evil 'Mother' Gothel who was the one who trapped Rapunzel in the tower.

The illustrations were typical of an American comic, but the story was very interesting and the Rapunzel character was a lot more interesting than in the original tale.

I hope I haven't revealed too much...to be considered spoiler...Please let me know if I have and I'll edit this post.

O.O Lucky! Where on earth is it summer right now? I'm up to my ears in snow here, haha. (Not quite that bad, but it feels like it sometimes.)

Hmmm... I don't read many American-style graphic novels, but I may check it out if I see it. ^^

I knew Rapunzel's Revenge was ringing a bell for me; Linkara recommended it as a good comic book for younger readers in one of his shows.

Here's hoping The Grand Design doesn't go entirely over my head. I haven't had any formal Physics education for years now.

Well I just finished Culture, Health and Illness. :) This means my current progress is 03/50 :o

Not sure if you know about that book, but it has contributions by some key anthropologists such as Sherry B. Ortner and Michelle Z. Rosaldo

Hmm, I don't, nor do I know the names of those anthropologists. Wahh, now that I can finally read fiction I just want to read more theory stuff! :gonk:

RisikaFox 01-25-2011 09:20 PM

Just finished Torment by Lauren Kate. Sooo good, but I really hate that she ended it with such a big cliffhanger. Dx And I'll be hanging here, in suspense until next winter. It's unbearable. >.<

PapillonCameo 01-25-2011 09:27 PM

Has anyone else read Robin McKinley?

I guess I am revealing my bias quite a fair amount here. I am not really sure how well known those anthropologists are outside of the fields of social and cultural anthropology. Sherry B. Ortner wrote the famous essay Is Female to Male as Nature is to Culture. She is one of the most well known feminist anthropologists. The book itself is also known by some as one of the key feminist anthropological works.

Maybe then that single essay I linked you will kill this urge and you can go on with your fiction reading? ;)

I live in Australia, hence it being summer here...Anyway, I notice you all seem to be reading a lot of books on very interesting topics. =3

ljosberinn 01-26-2011 07:30 AM

Thanks Crimson! I'll admit my ignorance and say I hadn't even heard of feminist anthropology as a field.. That essay sounds interesting though, I'll check it out when.. well, when it's not 7:30 in the morning.. *yawns*

I am not sure I would call it a field, but rather a theoretical approach. Not that it is ever so cleanly cut between theoretical approaches. xD

Have you got a goodreads account yet? This might make it easier when it comes to keeping track. :)

TaiyoTsuki 01-27-2011 01:37 AM

I've finally managed to track down my German book on Amazon. And get this; I bought it for for $13 online, and the university has it priced at over $60. Guess which I'd rather do.

PapillonCameo 01-27-2011 01:38 AM

You're going to buy it online?

TaiyoTsuki 01-27-2011 01:44 AM

Just did buy it online. And a couple of manga.

PapillonCameo 01-27-2011 01:46 AM

Which manga?I might have heard of them...lol Tough it is a very slight chance.

MedievalBeauty 01-27-2011 02:42 AM

I'm still reading torment by Lauren Kate. I'm finding it hard to read these days probably due to being tired and things like that.

Edit: Managed to get up to chapter six, will read more later.

TaiyoTsuki 01-27-2011 04:59 AM

@ Papillion: Vampire Knight vol. 11 and Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project vol. 3

PapillonCameo 01-27-2011 06:50 PM

@Tayio-I've only read the early volumes of Vampire Knight, but like what I've read so far.I haven't heard of the others you mention tough.Well actually a little, but not much.

Yep, that is essentially what it is.

TaiyoTsuki 01-28-2011 04:06 AM

@ Papillion: I've read up to Vampire Knigh vol 10, and I own only about half the volumes. As for Evangelion, I swear it is an amazing anime. I've seen the first season of the original Evangelion, and I own the first movie, which is essentially part of a remake of the anime as movies. There's supposed to be four movies.

Crimson Fang 01-28-2011 08:24 AM

Managed to finish off another two books today. =)

Aspinou 01-28-2011 01:19 PM

ugh, I've been thinking of doing this thing for a lon time now, but I haven't so far. But now I thought it was time I'd get to it.
So I haven't finished any books yet (obviously xD), but I have just started reading a novel that my mom thought I should read.
The book would be: Tai-Pan by James Clavell and so far I've read ehh.. like 2 pages. xD We'll see where this is going. :P

-redbows 01-28-2011 01:24 PM

I attempted this last year, but only made it to 25 out of 50 books.
This year I started again (with the help of Goodreads).
Maybe I should compile a list and show it here as well.
