Because I suck at describing things....here's a link to the series: Dark-Hunter | Sherrilyn Kenyon
They're really fun, not to mention they can get hilarious. Especially when Simi gets bored.....or Artie starts annoying Ash.

`Kitami 05-15-2012 07:45 PM

Hmm they sound kind of nice.

TaiyoTsuki 05-15-2012 08:01 PM

Just...try not to get blinded by the sex scenes.

`Kitami 05-15-2012 08:05 PM

I can handle the sex scenes just fine. I've been reading Laurell K. Hamilton's books since I was 15, so I'm desensitized to sex scenes. XD

TaiyoTsuki 05-15-2012 08:52 PM

Then you should be fine. Personally, I don't read the books for the romance or the sex, but for the funnies. They can get really funny at times

`Kitami 05-15-2012 09:03 PM

I don't care for excessive sex scenes, but if the book has a good plot and I get interested in it, then the sex is just part of the story.

TaiyoTsuki 05-15-2012 09:38 PM

That's pretty much how Dark-Hunter works. Not too heavy on the sex scenes, and plenty of plot to move it along and stay entertaining. Not "keep screwing the hot guy every night because I have no brains"...yuck.

PapillonCameo 05-15-2012 11:32 PM

Ooh boy don't get me started on books with no plot and too much of other stuff.

Knerd 05-16-2012 07:04 PM

I'm thankful that I've never gotten pulled into a book series like that. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who like steamy corset-busting novels, but that's not my thing.

TaiyoTsuki 05-16-2012 09:11 PM

Ugh...generally I don't read romance, but then again I don't consider Dark-Hunter strictly romance. It's somewhere in between romance, urban fantasy, action, and comedy. If any of you have ever read them, you know what I mean.

And I'm FINALLY getting back to work on my Dark-Hunter thread for here. Took me long enough...bleh.

Knerd 05-16-2012 11:46 PM

The Dark-Hunter series does sound pretty interesting. It's a neat combination of all those genres while still appealing to a fairly young audience. Can't knock Kenyon for that! I'm not sure if you guys mentioned it in here, but I think that it's going to be turned into a movie soon. I probably won't read the series itself, but i'll definitely pop into a theatre if it comes out near me.

TaiyoTsuki 05-17-2012 08:03 PM

I have no idea if there'll ever be Dark-Hunter movies...if there are, they'll probably have to tone them down romance-wise. Then again, the way I see it, you could take most of the romancey stuff out of them, and you'd still be left with a really fun story.

There is DH manga, though! :D

Roxxi Shiagami 05-18-2012 01:45 AM

@TaiyoTsuki: ooh! The Dark - Hunter series is really good. I've got some of the books, don't have all of them, unfortunately.

The other day at a local thrift store, I was browsing the book rack. I rarely find anything particularly exciting there, but I check every time anyway. A yellow spine jumped out at me and, lo and behold, it was Lucky by Alice Sebold! It had been on my to-read list for quite some time, so I snatched that up right away.
Today I was at another thrift store looking through the books and I was thinking back to that find. I was kind of in a rush, so I was just skimming the shelves instead of carefully reading each title. So I thought to myself "what, do you think there's another book you want to read with some bright yellow spine that's somehow going to catch your eye like that?" I was in the middle of thinking that when... a bright yellow spine belonging to a book I've long wanted to read jumped out at me. At last, Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson is mine for a low $2! In nearly like-new condition, at that. I don't think it's ever been read!

I'm currently about 2/3s of the way through Going Postal by Terry Pratchett. I love it so far. Pratchett's quite funny, and weaves a good yarn in the process. I'm going to have to look for the next one in the series soon, as I have a strong feeling I'm going to miss this when it's over.

Crimson Fang 05-18-2012 12:01 PM

Well I did not achieve my reading goal last year. I fell short by 40 pages in the end. On New Year's eve, I made the choice to go celebrate with my flatmates and a co-worker. I don't regret my choice, especially as he, the co-worker, has now moved to another city. This year I am going for fifty books. I am roughly on target. I halved my goal as I am working full time now, whereas I wasn't for most of last year. Also going to be studying part time which will further impede my reading challenge. :o

KatMagenta 05-18-2012 03:52 PM

Good luck Crimson Fang. Hope you enjoy the challenge however books you read!

My exams are finished so I can finally read things that aren't Chemistry textbooks. :boogie:

Cherry Who? 05-18-2012 06:20 PM

Only 40 pages, Crimson? I think you're being a bit harsh on yourself. That's close enough, you finished your goal.

Oh! I'm jealous, that's supposed to be a great book.

I'm reading Craig Ferguson's autobiography right now and I'm really impressed with him. He's a natural writer and seems like a genuinely good guy who has been through a lot in his life. It makes me appreciate the Drew Carey Show a little more.

Cherry Who? 05-18-2012 08:23 PM

I'm likewise jealous! I've also been wanting to read his autobiography. I don't have the insight provided by his book, but I agree, he seems like a good guy. :) Sometimes I want to get famous just so I can go on his show and joke around with him for 10 minutes.

Even my 80 year old grandma loves him. She was telling me one time how she likes his show and she goes "but I don't like those innuendos." and I was just thinking "but mema, that's 90% of the show, what do you like about it, then?" They're from the same city, so maybe it's just nice for her to hear a familiar accent when she's up late. :)

Roxxi Shiagami 05-19-2012 12:50 AM

@TaiyoTsuki: If you like the dark hunter series, you might find the Kate Daniels series to be interesting. It's by Ilona Andrews. The books are pretty good. They're urban fantasy.

Thank you. I have been enjoying the books I have been reading so far. Some of them I had been meaning to read for quite a while, so it has been good to finally get around to it. There are still many more books I want to read. Indeed I am still in a situation where I have read about 25% of the books I own. Which will only get worse this upcoming week as there is the annual Red Cross Book Fair coming up! <3

I hope your exams have gone well! Also enjoy your greater reading autonomy! :)

Haha, it was only a short book though being 140 or so pages in length.

Cherry Who? 05-19-2012 03:48 AM

Doesn't matter, you finished the challenge! :P I mean, 40 pages is, what, less than an hour of reading? More or less, depending on the size of the text and pages and how focused you are/easy of a read it is.

Crimson Fang 05-19-2012 04:55 AM

Thank you, you're too kind. I think it took me two or three hours to finish the rest of the book. It might have even taken a little longer. The book in question was, well it still is, The Concept of Social Change: A Critique of the Functionalist Theory of Social Change

Cherry Who? 05-19-2012 05:23 PM

Ah, yes, so not a light read. But still, very close, it counts!

What's your goal for this year?

TaiyoTsuki 05-19-2012 08:47 PM

Mm....I'm not sure how these pertain to book talk, but....Cookies, Anyone? by ~HikariHellion on deviantART
Maybe they'd be a really nice treat to eat curled up with a book to read?
