lol. Well I think I'll be diving into reading more. My dad's gf heard about my low list and brought all her books. Seriously.

Nice! I recommend The Legend of Eli Monpress and The Deepgate Codex.

Just finished with book #42, "The Last Hero" by Terry Pratchett and went straight on to reading the next Rincewind book "Unseen Academicals".

I quite liked Unseen Academical but I am rather fond of Ponder Stibbons.

Library had a mini booksale and I nearly bought some Sarah Jane Adventures books but after I put them back and went into the library proper a little girl and her mother came in and bought them instead so yay?

Haven't read anything new, hopefully 2012 will be my largest fail margin for the challenge and I can only get better in the future.

Today I found a brand new copy of Number the Stars by Lois Lowry for twenty five cents! I missed that Lowry book as a preteen, but I know Lowry's books stand up just fine to adult reading, so this should be an enjoyable, quick read.

It took me almost all semester, but I recently finished Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson. It was a good read, but I didn't do it justice. With so many long gaps between my readings, I lost its sense of flow. Oh well. Now I'm reading The Hobbit.

December is upon us! Which means that everyone has to start reading really really fast in order ot meet their challenge goals!

I'm rereading The Hobbit before I see the new film, so that has me reliving a ton of memories from elementary school. I love it because this is one of the few novels that I can geek out over with my father - He just finished rereading it this week too, so all of our conversations revolve around Bilbo and dragons right now.

I reread The Hobbit earlier this year. :)

Have more or less consigned myself to failing, too many journal articles and not enough reading for pleasure. One of my friends was kind enough to give me her copy of Cloud Atlas (I get bonus time because the film isn't out until next year here) so I want to at least start that soon.

I'm nowhere near close to completing my goal. But I did read a good amount of books, much more than last year. Improvement is improvement.

For the first time since 2008 I completed the challenge, so then I was going to make it a 75 Book Challenge for myself just to see if I could, but then I started studying for my GED and I have this big stack of prep books and that's my reading life right now. T_T
I have four novels in a stack that I'd like to read, but I've just....not been. One of them is called The Night Circus and it sounds quite good. That's the one I'm really hoping to read before they're due back to the library.

Good luck on the GED, Kita! It's been almost a year since I got mine, and it was in Missouri, not Colorado, but if you have any questions about what the test is generally like or something, feel free to ask me.

Wow, Congrats, Taiyo! If I recall correctly, hadn't you set your challenge much higher than 50? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I kept on extending it until I finally decided "screw it, I'll just go for 100 books this year." I think my next "challenge" will just be just seeing how many books I can get read in a year. No solid goal, just seeing how many I can get through in a year.

You're quite the prolific reader. Do you borrow a lot from the library, or do you buy that many books?

Thanks Cherry.
My brother got his last summer and he's offering me help too but I'm just studying for it....a couple of these books have practice tests in them, so that seems useful.

You can also try googling "GED preparation classes" followed by your state. The one I went to was free, funded by the state, and it really helped.

Have any of you guys ever read Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality?

It's a novel-length fanfiction that's actually pretty amazing. I'm about halfway through it right now. The beginning starts off very witty and satirical, and now the plot is progressing to a point that is just wonderful. I'm just so impressed with it that I can't help gushing a little.

It's rare to find fanfiction that's not only well written, but doesn't focus on romance!

I think I am going to set this goal for myself come January. =] It'll give me a reason to read more and give me something to do when I'm taking my semester off from school. =]

Knerd - I'm skeptical since fanfic is usually... yeah. But you do have pretty good judgement, so if you finish it and still like it, I might have to look into that.

I tend to get obsessed with particular fandoms and read everything to do with them at one time.

(Still reading Cloud Atlas)

I stalled about halfway through and haven't returned to it yet. The beginning was promising, but then the plot turned into an Ender's Game kinda thing and it didn't have the same spark anymore. I probably recommended it too early.

SO WHAT BOOKS DID EVERYONE GET FOR THE HOLIDAYS?!?!?

I got "1491" by Charles Mann and a 1961 copy of the Nibelungenlied.

I got Jam by Yahtzee Croshaw and The Apocolypse Codex by Charles Stross. I pointed at them in the shop so my mum bought them to sell to my gran to give back to me.

I got Making Money by Terry Pratchett (I adored Going Postal and this is the sequel) and An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. I had also asked for some exciting looking non-fictions, so I'll have to buy those with my gift money.
