It's been super quiet in here recently... I'm still plugging away at my book list. How is everyone else doing?

I'm thinking of starting again, for the third time... For me it's not so much about reading 50 books, as it is keeping track of the books I read.

I recently finished reading Frost and Fire, a short story collection by Rodger Zelazney. One of the stories was recommended by a friend, so I got a copy from the library to read it, and ended up reading the whole collection. It's 80's era sci-fi/fantasy stuff, somewhat pulpy in style. I kinda liked it, and kinda didn't? The whole time I was reading, it just kept thinking it was all very masculine. Not in a bad way. But enough so that it made feel kind of like a tourist while reading—present, but definitely an outsider. There were a lot of interesting concepts in the stories that I liked, but I couldn't really get emotionally invested, which is an important part of fiction for me. It made me want to write fan fiction though, just to play with some of the ideas, haha, so there's that.
I'm still reading The Wise Man's Fear. Fairly barreling through it now; I've read maybe a third of it in the past few days. I'm still totally in love with it, and with Rothfuss' writing. Hnng. So good. If the George R.R. Martin wrote like this, I wouldn't have any trouble getting through A Song of Ice and Fire. |
Just added another book to my list! I started "Lies My Girlfriend Told Me" as recommended to my by my room mate. [yes]

Just finished reading The Golem and the Jinni, which has been in my "currently reading" pile since last summer. Don't have a lot to say about it at the moment, but I really enjoyed it a lot.
Next up, I'm going to start reading Uprooted, which was recommended by a friend and which I've been eagerly looking forward to. |
