Aww, but that wasn't your fault Bishielurfer! Surely they'd take the circumstances into consideration? D< |
Bishie:: I didn't have a childhood really. X_x
I can see where being treated like a kid all the time would be pissy, but I wish I could have been a kid when I was one..... Whoa...its getting depressing in here. </3 -puts on Jpop- x'D My mom hasn't been able to use her card in years because I had some books checked out on it for school and they were in my locker when a tornado hit it and destroyed the school. x_x And that's unfair. You shouldn't have to pay fines when something is lost or damaged in a natural disaster like a fire or tornado. That is SO not your fault. D: And sorry bout your house. :[ Aranel:: Its a fun number. There are a lot of twos. 8D Cherry:: Yeah. x_x |
LOL. xDD That sounds like a very awe-inspiring number Kitami. Very awe-inspiring indeed. >=D |
Kitami: Eh, I didn't really have much of a childhood either. My dad travelled a lot for business when I was younger, and was never really around, so he kind of missed out on that whole bit. He tries to make up for it now, but I'm too old for the whole kid thing so it just ends up causing fights.
That's what I said. XD I was like, "What the crap?! I didn't start the fire!" They just kind of looked at me and said, "75 dollars, please." So I was like, "Screw that!" and I left. ^^; Haven't been back since. o_O Wonder if they'll send the collection agency after me if I wait too long? It's already been five years... D: Aw, the house thing wasn't a huge deal. I hated that house, the one we got was better, most of my stuff was fine (just those damned library books were destroyed ><), and my step-mom moved out afterwards, so it was an overall pretty sweet deal. The only sucky part was living in an RV for a year afterwards. |
Well at least some good came out of the bad then, right? -nodnod- |
It sounds like these libraries would rather be asses than get their books back. The library I go to has their fines capped at £4.39 per book... I had to pay for some books that got water damaged after my radiator exploded.
There was an article in the local newspaper about a book amnesty and apparently they're still hoping someone is going to return a book that's overdue by over 16 years. O_o |
Quote:
A few months ago I read about a guy who returned some books like, 30 years late. xD He had to pay like, a few hundred. But he wanted to. |
At least that guy was a good sport about it.
I've heard stories of people returning books after decades have passed and the libraries were so happy to get them back that a fine was never even mentioned. That's really the way that it should be. |
Yeah, when the guy returned it, the lady who worked there told him he could just keep them because he had been automatically charged a few late fees that eventually just payed for the book. But he insisted on paying all of them.
|
Finally got around to fixing my reading list, all the way back Here
Ugh. I hate reading so many things at one time but they're all for school. I have like 15 others lined up for personal reading as soon I finish with what I'm lugging around. Almost there! 30/50! |
I feel your pain - I've been doing 150-200 pages worth of reading a night and it's all for classes. It's tough to get through more than one or two personal books each month.

Well I'm glad your stuff survived. Sucky about the RV living though. Ick. O.o Quote:

O rly? Well, I stand corrected. I guess it's different in different states.
|
Heh. Well hopefully its different in Missouri. >.>
|
Weird, that story is just insane. I can understand if a library wants to be reimbursed for a rare or old book, but I just can't imagine someone getting thrown in jail!
What's next? "Your Harry Potter book is two weeks overdue. To the gallows with you!" |

Really, Kitami? I didn't hear about that. I guess I should pay attention to state news, especially considering the library fines I rack up.
|
8D Me too, Cherry!
Lol @ Knerd. JoieD:: Yesh. I heard it on the news. O.o Its weird... |
Here they charge you like fifty cents a day per overdue book until you reach the price of the book, then it cuts off.
The ladies who run my library are asses. >> Seriously, they're so rude. |
Its the same way here. They're total bitches.
Except this one lady, who ran the local history department, which is/was this little room with local architecture, historic homes, and local art showcased in books or displays...I think that's what it is still...I haven't been since its librarian passed away, which is who I'm talking about. I loved that lady. ;~; She was really old and wore long linen skirts (usually black or gray) and long-sleeved, white, starched shirts. And she had white hair which was always in a big bun. And glasses... she looked like she might have belonged to one of the Victorian houses that I liked to stare at in the photographs in the books. She looked really severe, but she was actually really sweet. o: I miss her... >.< |
I've always had pretty good experiences with the librarians at my school. They're all very happy to help out and research with you. After talking with some of them, I've often gotten back to my room to find an e-mail full of recommendations and links to articles that I'd be interested in.
They're a very sweet bunch - They love reading and helping out students. |
Oh well my school librarians were rockin. :P
These were the public librarians. =_=; |
This challenge sounds fun, may I still join in?
Reading is my all time favorite thing to do. My mom promised me when I was young that she would buy me all the books I could want through college if I bought my own video games, she's regretted that choice for a long time. ^_^ |
Knerd: My school librarians are...fairly apathetic. Though, they do occasionally let me take out extra books because they know I'm a quick reader and will return them quickly. ^^
|
Dream_and_Die // LOL. I wish I had that sweet deal. Except I'm not much of a video gamer.
- This sounds like fun! I love to read. Usually I'm so compelled from a story that I read hours at a time and rarely do anything else. But that hasn't been the way recently. If I go online, I'll stop reading. If I read, I stop going online... D: Hmm 5O books in one year? I don't know if I can do it. I can't think that far ahead. I can't think of that many books I want to read, I need to discover more books. I'd probably choose a smaller goal and go from there... So I'm thinking manga would count right? Since I'd be reading it like a book too. I have a stack of manga on my desk that I bought months ago, but haven't touched. ;___; |
