I spent the morning and afternoon with my boyfriend and his friends, having a small cook-out. Then, around 5-ish, we went down to the Art Museum (here in Philly) to watch the concert (the Roots and Sheryl Crow) and the fireworks afterward. Didn't get home until 11:30, at which point we both crashed.
Hanging out with friends is always fun, and good food makes it better. The concert itself was so much fun, just laying down a blanket on the Parkway and relaxing, listening to the music. There were some songs which just made you want to move...
It was so great, too, to be like that with my boyfriend.
Then the fireworks.
They were choreographed with the music and sound cuts of famous speeches. It was so amazing, they were the best fireworks I've ever seen in my life.

And not to sound cheesy or anything, but when they were playing the music along with the fireworks, and playing those cuts of speeches, like Martin Luther King's "I have a dream", I just felt such pride.
And nothing - nothing - induces the feeling better than the voice of James Earl Jones reciting a quote from the Gettysburgh Address.

Job searching.
Wish me luck.
I'll need it.
I need to pay off $700 by September 4th, working part-time earning barely above minimum wage.
Let's see if I can finagle something.

I wonder why they moved. :gonk: And I wonder what age group that is for. Honestly I don't consider anyone under sixty to be an "old fart".

Well no, and most of the time, not even then.
For me, you'd have to have given up driving and be walking with some kind of aid, whether a rolling walker or a cane, before I'll really consider you an old fart.
However, you have to consider context.
1) Avatar sites like this are generally geared toward the teenage group.
2) After graduation, you're generally expected to move on with life and leave behind such "kiddy" stuff like this.
That's what makes us older crowd feel like old farts when we frequent these kinds of sites.

I've still never really understood that way of thinking though, because on every avatar site I've joined, there's always been a large amount of people my age and older. It's not really a rare or unheard of thing. >_> I know on certain sites according to some age polls there's actually more twenty somethings than teens. I didn't discover avatar sites until I was seventeen and a senior in high school already, and Gaia was the only one back then, as far as I know. Not much time to enjoy it before I graduated. I also don't see how holding conversations with people online is so kiddy. I guess the aspect of dressing up avatars could be considered so, but then I'd think if that were the case, it'd be too kiddy for all the teens. :P

Please remember, I put "kiddy" in quotes.
I didn't mean it in the sense of children between ages 4 and 11.
What I meant was that, for the teenage group, things like these sites are fine, because they're still legally considered children and therefore not quite mature enough to need to have adulthood pressed upon them.
But once you turn 18 and graduate high school, all the sudden you have to start thinking like an adult, and often that means leaving behind things like avatar sites.
Yes, there are a lot of people over that age who play on these sites, enough that these "18+" and "21+" hangouts in the forums are popular and fairly active.
But that doesn't mean that the rest of the world is able to understand how we could still be attracted to these sites "at our age".
For instance, if you were to be on Mene while at work, and one of your close-aged co-workers came up to see what you were doing, they would probably not be able to understand the attraction.
My sister is only a year younger than me, but she thinks I still have the mentality of a young teen to be playing on this site. None of my friends think there's anything worth being attracted to on here.
We may or may not be in the majority when we play on these avatar sites, but I'd venture to say that we are well within the minority when it comes to how many of our age group still play on these sites vs how many don't. Of course, that's also taking into consideration that Gaia was probably the only avatar site out there at the time that we were teens, and most of us were already immersed in the "adult" world by the time the trend caught on.

I'm 28. Glad to see there are some older people here on this site. I'm currently going to college in Washington state studying psychology...specifically behavioral neuroscience. I live with my SO who is an artist. We don't have any kids and do not want any. We do have one cat who is very vocal which is fun. She is a sweety when she wants to be. I'm interested in all kinds of things...science, art, theatre, and religion.
