To support Connie's last post, I'll be 30 in January and none of my friends understands why I spend so much of my time here or on the other avi sites. They too think it's too childish for my age. but what they don't understand is that I've developed some bonna-fide friendships through sites like this with other like-minded adults that have a similar penchant for wanting to meet new people and dress up pixel people in pixel clothing :D

Ironically people think this is childish yet they will play hours on video games. What's the diff? I prefer to chat with people than play games.

It is much more interesting to chat than to just swat imaginary monsters and villains - especially alone.

thanks for the welcome...so far it doesn't seem too bad of a place.

I don't really care if people think being on these sites are childish. I need something a little less serious at the end of my day....and yay for childish dress up...lol. Video games usually get me frustrated. Before I was in school I would read to relax...but I do enough reading as it is, so I like the little more low keyness of interacting people online.

'm not good at playing video games either, so they can get frustrating..

My favorite games are Simcity 3000 and Zoo Tycoon.

I have been gaming less and less. Don'tknow when the last time I've been on an RP game was.

I don't really do the role playing. I just talk to people on here, play some of the games, and I like to play with things I bought for my avatar. Like to see what I can create.

What I meant was that, for the teenage group, things like these sites are fine, because they're still legally considered children and therefore not quite mature enough to need to have adulthood pressed upon them.
But once you turn 18 and graduate high school, all the sudden you have to start thinking like an adult, and often that means leaving behind things like avatar sites.

Yes, there are a lot of people over that age who play on these sites, enough that these "18+" and "21+" hangouts in the forums are popular and fairly active.

But that doesn't mean that the rest of the world is able to understand how we could still be attracted to these sites "at our age".
For instance, if you were to be on Mene while at work, and one of your close-aged co-workers came up to see what you were doing, they would probably not be able to understand the attraction.
My sister is only a year younger than me, but she thinks I still have the mentality of a young teen to be playing on this site. None of my friends think there's anything worth being attracted to on here.

We may or may not be in the majority when we play on these avatar sites, but I'd venture to say that we are well within the minority when it comes to how many of our age group still play on these sites vs how many don't. Of course, that's also taking into consideration that Gaia was probably the only avatar site out there at the time that we were teens, and most of us were already immersed in the "adult" world by the time the trend caught on.

I actually do get on Menewsha at work. But I hide it so no one knows. Not because I think they would think I'm "weird" but because I don't want them to think that I'm not working. :sweat: I don't know if anyone would think much about it, I'm by far the youngest person at my job. All of my friends around my own age are on at least one avatar site, some on more than one. Although one of my oldest friends who was on one stopped going on it I think. Yet she's the most childish of all... She still likes things like HSM at twenty five... Which even I think is a bit silly of her but hey whatever makes her happy. I don't think I've ever really had anyone think I'm strange or immature for being on these sites. It's always seemed pretty acceptable with the people I know. I think one person I know did kind of laugh at it because he thought it was "nerdy" more than anything else. XD

I hide being here while I'm at for for the same reason.

I'm not into role playing either. I just don't feel I am creative enough. I used to role play when I was younger, mostly with the same group of friends in a chat room. But most of them now either don't really role play or they role play other things with other people. We still chat as a group together but it's just chatting. Looking back also I realize how bad I was at role playing. XD

Hello! I'm looking for more threads to settle myself into. :) Where I live 12 and under is child and 18 up is adult, but I'm above both so I won't quibble with the difference. I suppose if I want to chat I ought to use the designated introduction, just to be nice and rule abiding. :)
