Hi! ^_^
I'm Alex. I sew, design, do all sorts of crafty things (and art lol), and make jewelery...bake & cook too, but that's not exactly what the thread is about. xD I like to design my own clothes out of other random old clothes and scraps & buckles & buttons & stuff. lol I alter a lot of my clothes, well most of them actually. Currently I've been TRYING to work on taking in my big bulky biker jacket (the shoulders & sleaves are huge and manry. :P), sewing patch pockets onto some pants, and making a skirt out of random jean fabrics and stuff. xD It sounds cheesey, but it will look pretty cool when I'm done. lol Uggghhh... I never seem to finish much though, but I'm sure people know how that goes. [lol] Maybe when I actually finish something I'll post a couple pictures. [rofl] I've always wanted to learn how to knit and crochet, but I've never really had the patience to sit there and work on it that long. haha Too A.D.D. for that. :P Shoot, I don't even like to sew. xD I just like to design and get the finished project, sewing is just necissary. [lol] |
Welcome, Ginger!
If you have any pictures of your work, feel free to share! |

Hi! I'm... haven't thought of a nickname yet. Just call me Caught?
I knit and enjoy general DIY -ness. I don't have pictures to share unfortunately. However, I am looking for a good simple sock pattern. My brother is getting married and I want to make him socks. I'm really not sure what pattern to use, but probably something simple but would look good with a dress shoe (whether he will wear it or not doesn't matter, it's just the look I want to go for). So I'm hunting. I've done hand sewing before but I really want to learn to use a machine. I'm sort of scared to try though. And I'm extremely busy with life at the moment. Which is a pain for starting on those socks... I haven't even picked out the yarn yet. That might be a good thing though, since I don't know what pattern I'm using. |
Socks have always confused me, to say the least. I've never been able to turn a heel! I can't tell you how many socks I've started and then had to frog half-way through. Yet every year, no matter what, I always seem to find a new pattern and think "Hey! I can do this one!" It...never ends well. [cry]
Sewing machines are wonderful! Once you find one that you're comfortable using, it makes such a huge difference from hand sewing. Suddenly, you have the ability to really plow through sewing projects and make them all at once, as opposed to spreading it out over a few weeks or months. Getting my own machine was what got me into quilting. I can't imagine trying to do that by hand. |
I haven't knit a pair of socks yet. It looks like it's just short rows for the heel though (depending on the pattern of course - in my limited knitting knowledge I have no idea how else they would be done unless added after the rest of the sock was made). If you've had issues with them before, I'd suggest tryingcircular dish cloths. After knitting one or two of them you'll wonder why you didn't understand it before. To get rid of holes, learning about, what I've been told is called, Japanese short rows, will take care of that. [yes]
Quilting? I really want to start that. But I want a treadle machine for it. [squee] I really should just take the plunge one day and try my grandma's sewing machine. She doesn't use it and wouldn't mind me doing so. Hmmm. Maybe soon. Like... April. When finals are over but the next semester hasn't started. |
I only craft small little cutsie things that make me not wanna give them away to anyone, because I fall in love with them. *laughs*

I just recently finished trying to crochet Yan I absolutely love him to death [heart]
I crochet and knit things all the time |

Well hello there!
I learned how to knit when I was 7, but it stopped there. I never learned to purl, or do anything other than just. knit. BUT THEN, a few years ago, a friend taught me the basics of how to crochet (basically single crochet and how not to increase a ton while making a scarf or something), and then I taught myself up to what I know now (which is enough, I think, though I'd like to know more. I just finished another hat after not crocheting for a while, but it's TINY. Well, not THAT tiny - better than the pattern I was using before that, if I had kept going without making my own changes, would have made a hat that wouldn't even fit a non-preemie newborn. And it was supposed to fit an adult head. Ridiculous. Thankfully, since I just shaved my head: http://i50.tinypic.com/15poms4.jpg it kinda fits (the hat I'm wearing isn't the hat I'm talking about). But if I wear it for longer than a few seconds, it gives me a headache because it cuts off some circulation. Not cool. This is why I don't follow a lot of patterns. :/ BUT ANYWAY, the summer/autumn before last I wanted a slouchy hat really, really bad, so I found a pattern that, if I had followed, would have turned into a trash bag! Okay, may be not that big, but if I had kept going the way they said, it would have been DOUBLE the length it actually is. And this is with the hook and yarn size right. What is with people and not knowing how to write patterns? Either way, I made it work, though, without the bald head, it slips a bit since there's no traction and it's even a little big around the band. STILL. I think it looks cool, and it's comfy. It'll be too hot to wear soon, and I already sweat too much for it to be good to wear right now, but whatever. PICTURES AWAY. http://i48.tinypic.com/2hxly13.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/2yuycfq.jpg That is all. (I'LL BE BACK. ^0^) AAAAHHH, SORRY THOSE ARE SO BIG. HOW? [oops] I've forgotten the BBcode to make them smaller... hold on... nope. Not working. Guess we'll just have to deal until Mene makes it possible. :P ...HEY, HEY, MUDBLOOD ISN'T A NICE WORD. |
Lol, wearables are frustrating aren't they! Cute hat though, it turned out great! I have problems when I try to follow crochet patterns too - for me, I know it's my fault some of the time because I tend to make fairly tight stitches & don't have a wide range of hook sizes at my disposal so I just use the closest thing. I made some wrist warmers last winter that would have been thumbwarmers if I hadn't doubled the number, but they still turned out nice with the adjustment. Dunno why I'm too lazy/stubborn to go buy some larger hooks! [lol]

It's okay, I love all you Mudbloods! Us quilters are probably werewolves or something, anyway. We only manage to produce a finished product once in a full moon. [lol]
That looks great, Alyrii. I always think that hats look better with bands. There's just something more ~finished~ about them that way. It's like putting a seam on your clothes. [lol] So even if the pattern was a little off, I guess it worked out in the end! |
That's a wonderful hat you made there. Cute stylish and most importantly blue. XD

Hello, Div is Div & she is A quilter (or at least she tries to be). Nice to see more crafty Menewshans here. Div looks forward to chatting with you.

Awesome hat! I will have to post pictures of things I have made when I get my laptop

I sometimes make clay gages (Like the ear jewelery lol) Actually thinking about making more if I can find my clay. xD If I do I'll post them. :] |
So what does that make a knitter/crocheter?
|
Perhaps a halfblood?
