Um, many people who are doctors are also pushed into because you can make a lot of money. That's why people here do go into a medical field. Unless they plan to run a non-profit or do something like Doctors without Borders, then I would say that is a person doing it for the care and help of others.

I don't get why republicans don't want it, other than them and their buddies who are high ups in those nice cushy pharmitucal and insurance companies would lose money.

Also, everyone inlcuding myself who will take higher taxes versus no having health care are poor. We struggle right now, but medical wise, it becomes out biggest expensive and even still paying off things that we had done years ago or just quick ER visit's. By having universal health care, it takes away the cost we are already spending, and just actually goes to a use we were already using except not getting the full benifits of. You also wouldn't here of people being denied life saving procedure's because it's too expensive, it would just happen.

And the only thing I've heard with vaccine's is the link between them and autism.

I refuse to get shots by anyone other than my doctor when I'm at the doctor's office.
o.o Her, or my old doctor from when I was little. He's a pretty funny guy!
Actually, he's an artist too! A LOT of his work is displayed all around the office. (:

I'm not a big fan of much of it...it's not my taste, but he's talented, I'll give him that.

having lived in England with the NHS all my life, i can't really comment on which type of health care is better.
i just know that whenever i was ill, my parents rang up the doctor and i was looked at. when i needed an operation on my back, i went to see the specialist, they booked the operation and i had it done. when it didn't work, they did another one.

i'm perfectly happy to pay higher taxes if it means i have peace of mind about my health.
the worry of whether i could afford to be treated i think would almost definitely make me worse. but then, i know there are some that rarely get ill and may resent having to pay more for a service they may never use.

Akasha: Even doctors need money to live. Unless they happen to have a lot a money before they go into the profession, non-profit really won't cut it when it comes to their survival. They need to put food on the table and roof over their heads as well. I can't say anything about Doctors without Borders because I've never heard of it/dealt with it before.

The fat cats don't make up the majority of the republicans either way. There are still every day people who make up the party who aren't for public healthcare. I think it's partially the whole "we are all about capitalism" mentality.

But what about the families who don't really need extreme care for surgeries or for illnesses that need a considerable amount of medical attention? Who is to say that everyone can afford the higher taxes for things that they wouldn't need to use.

I think I'd much rather see more money going into a universal preventative healthcare program with large portion of money going to a fund that could help support low income families with paying medical bills.

Youn: xD Haha, I can understand that feeling. Last week, I wasn't very talkative at all on Mene. ^^:

Monstahh': I've only really visited my doctor twice that I can remember. So I don't really have any attachments to him. ^^; And the nurse practitioner was nice and was quick about it.
My doctor's office is small and kind of cramped. O.o

captainsavvy: Hm, see, the thing is, I doubt that universal healthcare would ultimately affect what I am already getting with the healthcare provider my parents have. Save for the fact that we would probably end up paying more.

And, if you don't mind me asking, does your healthcare provide for things like dental health?

So what do you plan on doing when your too old to be covered by your parents health care plan? Or when your on your own? What about having a job that doesn't offer you anything or to only go with a company known to screw over patients? Just because your on your parents plan now does not mean your safe.

Many of those families who are strugling now are also having huge worries about health care and how to provide for their kids or get it for their kids. Taking off such a huge worry as health care, especially for poor people I know struggling makes them feel a lot better anyways, because it takes away the worry of what happens when I get sick or if my kid gets sick? Because as it is, for most peopl in this country, and major illness lands you in the poor house. Rather than having to worry about that, most poor families and working folk I know would rather have universal health care.

Yes doctors need to put a roof and house over their head, but doctors are also paid a lot of money. And like I said, unless a Doctor is willing to run a non-profit, most doctors are not going into this profession to help people.

For me, almost everyone I know envolved in the republican party is in it for money, and most tax breaks that republicans push for are for the wealthy, that whole trickle down idea, that has proven time and again to not work.

I would rather have universal health care for everyone, so there are no medical bills to screw middle class to low income families. I would rather have universal health care that is focused on preventive health care, versus what we got now. Anything is better than the current system that america has. We are a first world country that is the most horrible among health care. I would have to look, but I think most of the other first world countries have universal healthcare, and even a few of the 2nd and 3rd world countries do too. It says something how we are not willing to take care of our fellow man and make sure we are all doing well and surviving together.

Ok, I kind of feel like this is getting too personal. So if you don't mind, I'm going to just end this debate here. I'm very weary of debating and really don't care for doing it in general... Mostly because I don't really have strong opinions on many topics [honestly, not even this one]. Occasionally, I will get involved in one [usually not a one-on-one though] but will vanish shortly after.

I did read your post though, just so you don't think I'm being disrespectful or anything. I do see where you are coming from but there will always be people who can counter argue anything and everything if it is not fool-proof.

I had more written here but cannot remember what it was because I stupidly hit that "getting started" button and everything I wrote was erased. -.-;

Oh, I hate when you do that, and I understand. Not sure if this topic is in the debate area. I got tired of posting there because it was a lot of once posters and not very talkative.

That said, I finally got a new roommate. She going to school to be a pastry chef and she works as a baker, means tasty foodings for us.

I'm pretty sure I physically cannot cook, though. Countless people have tried to teach me, and even when I follow the directions to a T, it fails. XD

Well, I suppose then your not meant to cook.
And I have never cooked noodles in a microwave. I always do mine on a stove top.
Boil some water with olive oil, rosemary, basil and oregano in it. Toss in noodles, cook them and saute up some garlic and butter and poor over cooked noodles. And that is how I eat my noodles. Also no rinsing them after cooking them, takes away the flavor.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a chemist.

*eats her instant soup* ^^;

In chemistry, we were supposed to do this experiment and get this clear blueish liquid to turn a very vivid green. Instead, mine not only did not turn green, but it stank up the room horribly.
I always wanted to be a writer. O:
