Hahaha, move to New Zealand, it's probably the closest you can get to an English speaking country that is 'in the future' as I put it.

Damia Flagg 10-31-2012 01:08 AM

Hello thread.
I can't remember if I have posted here before.
Just looking around to see what is going on.

Ling 10-31-2012 01:15 AM

Nice Halloween themed avatar Damia Flagg.

The Wandering Poet 10-31-2012 04:34 AM

Psh... that's why I'm learning Japanese Ling :)

@ Damia - Checked and no you have not :)

Ling 10-31-2012 08:09 AM

Poet, surely you're not learning Japanese just to move to Japan for the sole purpose of being in a time zone ahead of the US.

Speaking of another language, I said some Cantonese phrases out loud today while conversing with my parents, instead of using Mandarin. I surprised them with what I did manage to pick up. I feel just a little proud, as Cantonese, if you can count dialects as a different language, would be my third spoken language.

secretdae007 10-31-2012 02:25 PM

Hope everyone is ok after the storm! <3

The Wandering Poet 10-31-2012 04:21 PM

I hope so too Dae. Some menewshans have lost power :(

@ Ling - Not JUST to do that... moreso that living in Japan is a dream I've had since 3rd grade.

Given how insanely different dialects are I wouldn't be surprised. That's like English, Southern English, British, Scottish, are all I guess dialects... I can't speak any but one though I'd love to be able to.

secretdae007 10-31-2012 05:37 PM

I was lucky and did not lose power but brother #1's family has been frequently because they don't have power. Which means entertaining children which I love but it's tiring. O.o

Ling 10-31-2012 05:40 PM

I've seen some pics from the storm, so much damage. I hope everyone there is ok too.

The Wandering Poet 10-31-2012 05:43 PM

So true it's tiring Dae, but at least those parents who just dump their kid on electronics will have to spend time together.

~LONGCAT~ 10-31-2012 07:52 PM

Hey guys. We've had no power for going on a third day nowm charging my phone at work. We're still not allowed back home, they've restricted all access to nj's barrier islands and no planned rentry date set. So ima live in hotles for.a bit longer.
Happy halloweenies!!

The Wandering Poet 10-31-2012 08:15 PM

Aww poor kitty cat... did you get to see the damages? =/ I heard NJ got hit pretty hard...

Ling 11-01-2012 01:00 AM

Sorry to hear that LONGCAT, that is really unfortunate.

~LONGCAT~ 11-01-2012 04:47 PM

Only6 seen what the people who satyed behind took videos of. Haven't seen the house yet. We were snet away from our hotel because the firedempartment doesn't have first responce of out fire alarms because the power's out. So we have to find anothyer place to live in the meantimes. Right now the cats are in the car and the bird is in my fatherinlaws work office. Still can't retern to home

The Wandering Poet 11-01-2012 04:51 PM

What area? Maybe I could find you some overhead photos?

~LONGCAT~ 11-01-2012 05:00 PM

Briogantine island off of Atlantic city. We can't get back until they clean up most of AC and put the sand back on the beaches. :<

The Wandering Poet 11-01-2012 05:15 PM

Gosh... there's going to be a lot of water damage I think... Sandy touched land pretty close to your house then...

I'll try and find some pictures for you

New Jersey's barrier islands are scenes of devastation
Not a good title to see =/

That's from Seaside Heights, N.J.

(That boardwalk that is so famous in N.J. is gone o.o completely gone)

~LONGCAT~ 11-01-2012 06:44 PM

:< we're just checking into a second hotel now. This one has power and heat. Soon I'll be able to use a computer to check on the news and update family. Not all of my family has cell phones for texting. And my aunt in wyoming doesn't have a phone. I'd like to let everyone know how we're doing.
Yuck. I hope that's now what out home looks like.

The Wandering Poet 11-01-2012 06:49 PM

According to my mom (who watches the news all day) the houses in the brigantine area mostly got ripped off their foundations...
I really hope your house is okay and you have flood insurance :(

Streets in that general area are a foot or more of sand.

~LONGCAT~ 11-01-2012 07:06 PM

:( ohno! I know they had flood insurance and regular insurance but hopefully the southern end of the island got off bettter than the north end wich is the lower end. We saw some pictures where it weas undre water on that end.
The hotel we were just at doesn't allow pets. We have to find another one. Most of them are booked with people to help the power companies get abck online. And very few take pets as is.

The Wandering Poet 11-01-2012 07:08 PM

Hmm... any landmarks I could use to search for that are on the north side? getting a lot of vague photos.

~LONGCAT~ 11-01-2012 07:24 PM

There are game fields, like soccer baseball and I think tennis courts. I just moved down like 2 months ago so I'm not all to familar with the area myself. And this new motel really isn't in the greatest of areas either. My mother in law keeps looking around with a worried face I'm sure she's thinking of looters and the cars getting broken into while we stay here... at least they take pets... we hope.

dessertdesiert 11-01-2012 07:26 PM

LONGCAT How are you doing without power too?

The Wandering Poet 11-01-2012 07:35 PM

Okay so it seems there are still houses standing on the southern side... they got about 4 feet of water... =/ gonna have a lot of water damage... that means pretty much the whole island (not including structures) was probably underground...

Oh... ^^" and your beach is gone until they sift the sand out...

~LONGCAT~ 11-01-2012 07:36 PM

DD, I wish I could claim the reponcibilities of stealing your power but we just got kicked out of our first hotel by the firemarshell for not having any power. To run the fire alarms.

Ok so the house should still be there with some water damage. I know the house has power. This new hotel has power but smells like a wet smoker. I'm not very happy about any of this and I just want to go to a home. Let that be my inlaws slightly soggy home or my parents in alabama. I'm tired. And I have work from 8pm to 2 am tonight. :(
