If Dae got a Fennec... she'd want to be very fit and active... they don't slow down with age like cats and dogs do...
|
What are we talking about?
|
Dae said she wanted a fennec... one of these:
http://www.zooborns.com/.a/6a0105356...d026970b-800wi So I was giving her info about them |
Oh my gosh, I saw you posting those pics earlier and was wondering what they were. I didn't know fennec foxes were white. o.O
I thought they were tan-ish. |

They're more a light tan than white... I want a white one... but albinos have red eyes :( and I want blue
@ Dae - Yeah... they're known to be "kitten/pup-like" their entire life. |

Very adorable. But sadly my chances of getting one are low. My state is in the illegal list.
|
I want a kitty for a pet myself.
|
Poet: D'aww, I'm sorry. D;
|
If Dae gets one, poet wants lots of pictures

Congrats to hummy for killing this year's event thread!
|
that was pretty fun trying to out talk Seri and Hummy at the last minute.
|
@ Dae - Good luck adopting one... they're an exotic pet. They originated from Africa I think it was.
Definitely a biter though, they by nature give "love nips" that you're not supposed to train out of them because it's a "submissive" behavior I think it was. They're quite wild by nature though. |
Congrats to hummy for getting last post not only in the threadkiller's thread but in the whole Halloween 2012 forum!
|
Haha, she did?

And a biter is not good for my family dynamic. My nieces and nephews are over frequently and are all 7 years old or less. ^_^; |
Best place to get a pet is at a shelter!! Although my current dog came from a breeder, she was an oops litter. The mom's 4th litter and it happened just days before she was supposed to get fixed. AKC registered mom, neighbor dad. My bird is adopted however!! :3

Our family's first dog was gotten at a grocery store... I'm sure my mom never let my dad go out to the grocery store for anything ever again. xD |
Eh, as a Petsmart employee I can tell you that the small animals come from farms. Not breeders.
|
Ah, well not all breeders treat their animals poorly... that's why you gotta research a breeder :3
My parents got our second (that I remember) cat from a grocery store. Ended up being a beautiful little pain in the butt. |

So would you consider from farms to be better than breeders? Poet: This is true. But I still feel better adopting and save the breeders' animals for people looking for a particular pet. Though my mom would love if a golden doodle became available for adoption. [roll] My mom sent my dad out for milk on my oldest brother's 2nd birthday and came home with a puppy. Apparently, they use to set up shop outside stores a lot back then. ^_^; |
Well you have to look at it as different approaches. True Breeders aren't looking to make a quick buck out of the animal, that would be animal mills, like puppy or kitten mills where they get the female pregnant as early as possible and as frequently as possible until she is broken and can't be bred again. Breeders are trying to get the best qualities out of an animal, or a specific quality that they want. Example: pigeon breeders look to get the fastest or the neatest colors or some crazy plumage. Dog breeders want a dog that meets the show-quality standards.
Farms on the other hand, are trying to get animals at large numbers to meet with demands. So small animals do better in farm situations because of their quick gestation periods and high litter counts. A breeder would be hard pressed to find homes for all the babies in reasonable time, where as farms tend to have a clientele of businesses they deal with. Honest farms (and breeders alike) only breed when the female is fully mature and only do it a few times to keep overall health of mother and children optimal. They're both legitimate ways of getting a pet. It's Mills that I hate they have no regard for the animals' health just a quick buck. |
Sometimes people still do. They get a pet, pet gets pregnant and they gotta put it somewhere.
Well chances of an exotic breed being available for adoption is pretty unlikely. Unless someone mistook it for a dog. @ Longcat - So true... and it's the mills that try to deface the real breeders so they can get your business instead, and you end up with a lower quality pet... if not a pet that dies a few weeks later. |
