I know. I think it's just one of those weird, almost irrational fears.

Irrational fears yeah. I'm the same way with certain fanged creatures, needles, etc, but it's more a severe dislike of being punctured by things.
Unfortunately I always end up getting bit/scratched because someone wants to handle it roughly while it's in my hands.

Heh, I guess for irrational fears I have only one that jumps out - deep sea creatures. Basically the less 'normal' in appearance it is the more they'll freak me out. Eels? Discomforting. Anglerfish and other deep sea abominations? Awful. Completely harmless, sessile tube worms or coral? ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING.
Like where the hell do irrational fears even come from...

Well, deep sea creatures are either beautifully colored or really really ugly... and ugly things can be terrifying when you can barely see it in the darkness of the water.
Then there's the blobfish... it just... looks like a blob...

The blobfish looks so strange, it looks like it has a sad expression and a cartoon nose.

Blobfish were at one point voted the ugliest thing in existence. I think that was sad. It's only mildly ugly too.

I agree! the blobfish isn't that ugly, it's just a bit odd and different looking.
Actually, back on the topic of irrational fears. I have always had an irrational fear of not knowing where I am. Fortunately as a result of this, I have developed a pretty strong sense of direction, because I would pay close attention to where I've been and how I got there so I can find my own way back if I needed to. My sense of direction is one of those few things I take pride in.

That's actually a pretty good basis for figuring out where you are and how to get to where you need to go. I need to learn to use NESW and sun location more when figuring out that...unfortunately I tend to rely on landmarks in relation to other landmarks and buildings and so forth.

Landmarks helps me so little unless they're right next to the thing I'm looking for.
Relying on NESW isn't too good though when you only know what direction you are facing twice a day. Sunrise and Sunset

If I ever move from here I will most definitely be screwed directionally. NESW doesn't help when you don't know what cities are NES and W
