I hate excessive coughing. It is becoming super annoying and I can't sleep.

I get it a lot. I don't really know why right now but it gets really bad at random.

I have never had a cough this bad with no other real symptoms. I've been coughing so hard my chest hurts a bit. Went to minute clinic and got some prescription for cough and told to drink lots of tea with lemon and ginger.

Are you having any sort of nasal draining? That can cause coughing if it's draining into your lungs

Not really congested at all. As in nothing is running and I have no feeling of back up congestion in my head. And usually if I do, by day 5 I would normally be a lot worse. Just had the same cough for the last 5 days.

And minute clinic PA said my lungs sounded fine (no wheezing) and she did quite a bit of listening.

That's a bit odd. Is the air especially dry or dusty? Any fires in the area?

No and as someone that grew up with moderate to heavy smokers, smoke is almost never an issue. I enjoy a good camp fire and s'mores when the weather is nice. I'm wondering if I suddenly have an allergy or something. Just seems very sudden and out of nowhere. Don't think I've done anything differently.

Honestly, I find it bothersome having to go to the doctor or an urgent care. I really only try to go when I think there may really be a problem. And with my health insurance constantly in flux, I'm always nervous about going.

And I hate taking medicine. I'm awful at remembering to take it and sometimes just trying to find a place to fill it is annoying. At least this place was in a CVS that was in network (lesson learned from last time).

You might invest in a cool mist humidifier to run in your bedroom at night.
Dry air can cause a cough to linger.
If the cough continues another 5 days, you might get a second opinion.
Have you been exposed to anything with a harsh or strong chemical odor?
Is the weather cold?...have you been exerted in cold air, making you breath hard?
I have "burned" my lungs while running and breathing hard in cold weather, causing a prolonged cough.
Doc called it pleurisy.

It was so cold here last night that frost had covered all the vegetation by 9pm!
This morning everything was covered in frosty white!
I think it got down to 30°F last night.

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting a cheap humidifier for the time being and see if that helps.

I think I am finally actually feeling a bit congested (which I have never felt happier about). So hopefully this cold goes into full cold mode.

I have seasonal colds usually (it's particularly rough from summer-fall/winter) just from the temperature change. But the weather has actually been pretty moderate.
