Well I don't have much gold, but I have some items that would make more sense, I like my black and silver color skeme alot, or mostly black, but I havve been currently been taking items and then creating avis off of items....is that the wrong way to go about it? also I have small amount of commons...

Go download the MAC! It helps you plan your next move avatar wise. And NO!!! There is no wrong way of making an avatar! Though I find it easier to work with a color scheme.

But I'm actually removing that chunky veil thing and adding starry hairpins in place of the red butterfly. And removing the hand satchel thing...

EDIT : Back to my Atlantis one, for now.

I'm deciding between these two.

Abis - The first is more original, but the second has better layering.
Go with the first, but maybe another color that is brighter? It's sort of dull.

i am not all that great on avi picking with the MAC, but that is cause i don't feel llike I have much in the way of design.

Yeah, apparently I just got an un-official warning about it.
I didn't realize the rule applied to small text additives... It wasn't about making gold; it's my post style on every other forum I'm on.
Didn't even occur to me that it wouldn't be allowed here.

And the one on the right, can i see the long skirt in just plain red with gold lining?
