@Winter: Oh awesome! :0 I was so tempted to do an anthropology major, but it wouldn't have worked out in my schedule. I hope you think of something!

Winterwolfgoddess 08-18-2009 03:50 AM

I took this class only because I found it interesting. x.x
But a field study? @[email protected] So not what i was expecting. And I am stumped on what i should do. I actually want to do something involving the study of the user's on here, but I do not know how I would go about getting the permissions for that. x.x And I am also thinking of doing it at my highschool. I mean...I thought the class was just going to be studying it...not actually going out and doing it.
and on top of that, I have never written a proposal in my life.
UGH!!! I am confused.
Still interested...just oh so confused. xD

Ferra 08-18-2009 04:09 AM

I wish I was able to do stuff like that. D: But you're right, introductory courses usually are just an overview, so I'm surprised you're actually doing a case study. I'm sure you'll find something eventually.

Be sure to talk with your instructor if you need help. I'm the type that usually avoids talking to teachers out of class, but I regularly visited my anthropology professor in her office. :yes: It definitely made a difference.

Winterwolfgoddess 08-18-2009 04:46 AM

Yeah...after I heard about the study, all train of thought went down the drain. x.x
Except: "What the hell have I gotten myself into this time?" xD
So yeah...
I plan to contact her about it. She appears to be pretty nice and understanding, but this sort of thing I have never done before. So yeah...no experience whatsoever. xD
And some of my friends said they will help me think it through. And I plan on attacking some of the teachers I had in highschool for info as well. Because this is way beyond what I thought I would do freshman year in college. In an introductory to cultural anthropology class...when anthropology isn't even my major. x.x

::dies::

Ferra 08-18-2009 05:42 AM

Yeah... I really don't think high school prepares kids for college very well. :sweat: At least mine didn't. In high school, I had a lot of busywork and a few projects/papers with a lot of class time to work on them.

In college, my classes generally cut the crap and condense a lot of info into just a few months (or a few weeks, in the case of my summer classes). I usually have quite a few projects that I'm expected to do on my own time or do several hours of studying/reading. I can usually manage just fine, although it sucks when instructors assign you a lot of work when you already have stuff to do for other classes. @[email protected]

Just plan things ahead and try to gradually get stuff done. I'm sure you'll figure things out and do amazing. :D

Seiki Nova 08-18-2009 05:46 AM

Thats fine. I'm not starting the next round until Sunday anyways so that I can give Es a chance to do judgings if she wants and because I don't want to start mid-week DX

Good luck with whatever you decide to work on!

Ferra 08-18-2009 05:48 AM

Until Sunday? Dang... XD *eager to start the next challenge*

Seiki Nova 08-18-2009 06:23 AM

Might do a Friday start if I get Es's scores early. But we'll see.

Rylynne 08-18-2009 08:43 AM

Wow, that's a lot, Winter! =O I'm in my second year of university and I haven't even done a full-fledged case study yet. xDD;; Well, I will be doing two later on in the second semester, but yeah, that's actually surprising, considering it's an introductory course only. =O I wish you lots of luck though! :> <3<3

Winterwolfgoddess 08-18-2009 11:14 AM

x.x Thanks guys. Today is day two. And when i find out about the rest of my classes.
And I will email that instructor later...
And I am finally kind of sober from the panic I was having last night. xD

If worst comes to worst, I will drop that class and take an online course or extra summer classes instead. If I want to drop the "pre" off my financing major, I have to have a 2.5 GPA over all, as well as in a few select classes. and in order to keep my scholarship, I have to maintain a 3.0 overall GPA. x.x

But I am keeping the books. I still am interested in the class, and I like the books. xD

Rylynne 08-18-2009 12:07 PM

At least you've calmed down now though. :3 Thinking things through is always a good step when you're unsure of what exactly you want to do. ^^;; I hope your other classes don't turn out to be as taxing as that anthropology class though. xDD;; <3<3 I still wish you luck with those though! :>

Lunettes de Soleil 08-18-2009 12:24 PM

Oh, I love this type of thing! I'm going to have to stick around for this one.

MurasakiCrown 08-18-2009 02:35 PM

Ah, Field Studies. I had to do some for my Cultural Studies class last year and it's actually not as terrifying as I thought it would be, although I'd always be nervous with each new one I had to do @[email protected] It always turned out well, though. I'm sure you can do it ^^

Winterwolfgoddess 08-18-2009 07:16 PM

xD You shouldn't of said that. I will be coming to you for advice. xD

Ferra 08-18-2009 08:15 PM

@Winter: But getting out of your comfort zone is all a part of the experience! XD I dunno, I love getting challenges (as long as my professor provides me with support so I can actually reach them) but I can see why you wouldn't want that class on top of an already heavy course-load.

Winterwolfgoddess 08-18-2009 08:53 PM

Yeah. x.x
And someone keeps calling my cell phone and it says unavailable. xD I do not answer those calls. they do not leave a message either. xD

Donna 08-18-2009 11:10 PM

PC: She got hit by a car, but it's okay! We took her to the vet, and besides a cut on her nose and by her eye [and some road rash on her private areas x.x], she's doing great! It was a big scare for us because we took her out to the park and she bolted, snapping the collar in half, and ran out into the street. She hit the grill of a car and went out the side by the door so she didn't get hit by the tires. Phew! She ran out into the canyon after that so it took some time trying to find her but we finally did. The ironic thing is I'd been wanting to get her a new collar on Thursday and put it off. That's the last time I do that. x.x;

Ooh. I took cultural anthropology last year. We had a project on festivals and I did a study on Dias De los Muertos and wrote up mini ethnography to document my experience and everything I learned. It was surprisingly a lot more interesting/easier than the archaeology class I took last semester online and learned absolutely nothing. :/ It's one of those classes where you take tests online and pretty much skim through the book to find the answers.

Winterwolfgoddess 08-19-2009 12:11 AM

lol, well, I doubt my idea to do it on here will be a go, and like I said before, I do not even know how I would go about getting the permissions for that. xD Or how i can work a cultural anthropology study into menewsha either.
But if so, I would really like to do this since I doubt it is something anyone else caught when she mentioned it, and something she does not see often, which could work really well.
I am just more confident working with a group of people of the internet rather than outside the virtual world, espicially since I am not very involved in my community.
My back up plan may be my former highschool, if the principal allows that, but I doubt it. they were so protective over our time.
Do you guys have any ideas of what i can do?

MurasakiCrown 08-19-2009 05:16 AM

Fear not, I shall steer you wrong in the cleanest of ways! rofl
Hm...well, I was able to do at least one of my studies online, I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to come up with something for this website in particular.

Do you have some sort of handout/text thing I can read over to see if I can come up with anything? The last thing I need is to actually steer you in a bad direction D8

OMG that was quite an adventure, Donna @[email protected] I would have been...well, not calm.. XD

Cherry Who? 08-19-2009 05:31 AM

The deadline was nearly a week ago. *whinewhinewhinejudgebeatup*

Rylynne 08-19-2009 07:47 AM

Lolz, Cherry. xDD;;
Reminds me of last cycle all of a sudden. 8DD;;
We're waiting on Ese though, right? :>
So that she can get her judging in despite her busy schedule. =O

Winterwolfgoddess 08-19-2009 07:50 AM

Plat. Not one you can access without being a member of the college. The professor is going to give us more information today, in more detail, and I will type that up when i get home.
But now I need to head to bed. xD I might not have class until 5 30 PM est, but I know I am going to be woken up"early", and I can already tell my mood won't be so hot when I do. xD

slowtrain 08-19-2009 08:10 AM

*cowers*

cherreh, you such a meanie

Donna 08-19-2009 08:12 AM

PC, haha I was freaking out. Not just because of the one incident, but I've been stressed out with dealing with my parent's divorce [I have to go into court next month to testify against my deadbeat gold digging mother who's claiming abuse], working 5-7 days a week at work nearly every week, and trying to sign up for college classes and figure out what and how many credits I still need. I have no idea what I want to do with my life so I plan to just major in business. Especially since I can't get a well-paying job in any field I am interested in. xD
Sorry I just unloaded all that. That's my stress. >>;
