I'll actually probably get off in a bit to sit down and watch a movie with my mom
I'm trying to limit my time that I spend on the computer more. I feel like i'm on it too much, so I instead read most of the morning and a bit of the afternoon, and then drove around a bunch. lol And now I need to fix dinner and then sit down and relax with a movie and my mom. :3

If I do stay in a dorm for my first semester, pray for me haha. I'm scared to death of dorm living, especially in freshman halls. I would have no idea what to expect. The whole idea of shared living scares me.
You want to know what to expect? :D
I really liked the dorms. You get to meet a TON of people, and I found I really came out of my shell in college thanks to the dorms. You're in the same place as all the other guys on your floor, and while it's a bit weird and awkward at first, you soon make friends -- and a good bunch of 'em at that. I mean, I lived in the arts dorm, so the kids there had a lot of my same interests -- they were all wacky and fun. I wasn't an art student, but I always had artsy friends, so I figured it was the best place for me. We went to a lot of parties, froliced with fungus, and got a bit ridiculous on many occasions! BUT IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! :XD

Granted, I -hated- my roommate, so I was in friends' rooms most of the time. I went into the dorms with a randomly chosen roommate, because I figured it'd be interesting to see who I ended up with. Wow, she was not cool man. Not cool at all. :/ I have a ton of stories, but I'd rather not go off on a rant about her and her BO-smelly hippy sister and her smelly hippy niece who was cursing at the age of 6 and talking about her vagina. :/ They lived in our room for awhile. BLEH! >.>

Anyways, I also met my boyfriend via the dorms, as he lived on the same floor as some of my friends from high school. They were a year younger than I (and Ian had taken a year off to work), so I met him through them.

And before I knew him, my friend Christoph and I decided that we needed a Grande Meal from Taco Bell, but we didn't have enough money. So we went to the dorms to ask college freshman for their spare change so they could feed some 'poor, starving college kids who don't get cafeteria food anymore.' (We were sophomores at the time.) Good times, good times. Ian gave us like, $4 in change, and to this day he brings that up. XP

I've stayed friends with quite a few of the people I lived with at the dorms. We were like family by the end of the year, and even after we moved out into apartments and houses, I saw a lot of them on the regular. I highly recommend dorm living your freshman year. It's good for socialization.

I agree, Sizzla. Dorm living is great, although my favourite part of it is that my classes are just across the road. I'm still living on campus, and I'm a junior. There are, I will admit, several things that can ruin your dorm experience: cafeteria food if you're a picky eater, how expensive dorm fees are and a terrible roommate.

That aside, it's true that you can make a lot of friends. Personally, I didn't because I'm not very social, especially with other girls here because we don't often share the same interests. The majority of my friends are male. But even if you're not a fan of the people on your floor, there are great in hall groups you can join. I think it can be a really positive experience; it's just what you make of it.

@Dorms discussion: I had the opposite experience, unfortunately, but I think it had a lot to do with my own circumstances. My suitemates and roommates were nice, but with exception to my first roommate, I didn't really spend much time with any of them. I spent almost no time with the people on my floor or the rest of my dorm, despite being in my dorm room for a majority of my day.

I really wanted to become involved and meet new people, but I was put on the party floor. It was a bunch of guys getting high and playing Nintendo 64 all day on one side, and a bunch of girls getting drunk and hanging off of random dudes on the other. They were great friends and partied all the time with each other, but since I'm not much of a drinking/smoking pot person, it just didn't work out for me.

Instead, I made friends with a few people I shared classes with and stay in touch with my high school buddies. :)

EDIT: I totally agree that being close to campus was a major plus. The disappointing part of my dorms was that they were very expensive and you were required to sign up for a meal plan. The cafeteria food quickly became pretty old.

Sounds like where I am, Ferra. I very soon managed to get into one of the very few apartment-style dorms on campus though, which is where I stay now. I'm no longer required to have a meal plan, since I have my own kitchen, so I alternate between cooking my own food and eating at the cafe or occasionally at restaurants.

Ah, I didn't actually make friends with people on my floor either, but for slightly different reasons. It's hard to really connect with the girls on my floor if you don't watch chick flicks, eat pizza or brownies, or talk about and do other very traditionally girly things. I, unfortunately, would rather play video games and/or games like Magic, Risk or Scrabble. And I'd rather read fantasy books or fine literature alone in my room than discuss Twilight over the knitting you're doing for your newborn niece. That's why I never went to most of the floor movie nights: they never watched anything I wanted to watch. Other floor events, I went to briefly and was bored out of my mind in half an hour, so I usually politely excused myself after an hour, lol.

Same was true for me. XD; One suitemate was a Twilight fanatic (I think I insulted her when I laughed after she described what happens in the books) and the other was your usual girly-girl, except she partied a lot. Our walls were pretty thin, so it was kind of disheartening to hear her explain over the phone why grinding on some guy while you're drunk doesn't count as cheating.

I don't live there now though. However, I pretty much moved right into party-zone now that I live with my brother. At least we share similar tastes in movies and video games, so it's alright. It's a pain to fight against the mess his "bros" leave, though.

LoL. One of my closest friends here likes Twilight. We have an arrangement called, "Let's not talk about that." XDDD

One of my previous roommates goes to church to pick up guys. The other had a different guy spend the night every weekend. My policy was "As long as I can hear anything, and it's not my bed, I don't give a damn. Just a few months before I move out of this place forever."

Can't you just make him clean it up though? XD"
