I love it when my cats have staring contests with each other. I am the true winner.
I guess I should think of a poster to do >3>;; |
I think I know what poster I'm going to do, but I'm not going to start on it tonight

As for obsessing well....it does bother me.....but there small things, things you may not even notice but I notice them.....and well....I inked it so it came down to weighing the need to redo the entire thing or leave them and while they bother me I have chosen to pretend I did them right. lol, that comic made me laugh xP What do you guys think? Ingnore the black hair please, the hair will be white. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...he_cat/hat.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...icalPoster.jpg |
Hehe, it's cute. You need a few random things though. Like an elephant. Would your skin be white too?
|
I think white skin with yumeh ears and tail would work well, even with that hair you already have.
|
I don't think there's anything wrong with having some black, considering that the text is in black.
|
Hehe, Seussical. I auditioned for that in high school. I was going for the part of Horton, but lost out to someone else : (
|
Do you want me to kill that person for you?
---------- Off topic, our society does weird things to us. I'm still working on those middle school study guide questions. For some reason, I have absolutely no issue writing information about judaism, islam, buddhism, etc, etc. But I feel uncomfortable writing about Christianity, as if that's something I'm not allowed to discuss with middle schoolers. |
Why's that, Cami?
Like they'll take offense? |
Cami: I'm the same way. I think it's because evangelism is so pervasive in this country, that any attempt at a neutral discussion about Christianity can be interpreted as proselytism.
|
One of my teachers was once praying with some students outside. She did not start the prayer session. She was not leading the prayer session. She was just participating in it. And she got in trouble with the school.
I was also told when writing a study guide for C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe that I could not mention religion. C.S. Lewis was incredibly religious. It was like the main aspect of his life. The book is a religious allegory. How can one teach that book without mentioning religion? |
What is proselytism?
Didn't show up when I searched it on dictionary.com ---------- Aha! Got it on Wiki. lol Nevermind. ---------- I myself actually strongly support leaving religion out of the school system. I dont think its wrong to mention it in class when it applies to the material and is relevant, but not much otherwise. |
We had a world religions unit in one of my history classes in high school, and we read a book about the Salem witch trials in middle school (for an English class), but otherwise religion wasn't part of the curriculum.
|
There's a big difference between acknowledging that religion exists and exploring its effect on the world, and teaching children to be religious. Big difference.
---------- I mean, how can you possibly study medieval Europe or the creation of the American colonies without Christianity or the developing Arab world without Islam or Ancient China without Confucianism? |
Oh! We did Seussical my Junior year. I auditioned, but didn't stay in. Too much commitment, and I'm more of an actor/dancer than a singer anyway.
I love what you have so far though, Cora. It's coming along mahvelously! |
I didn't think of either the white skin or the cat ears, how could I forget that its a cats hat o.0
I considered adding pebblo (an excuse to use the silly thing) but I think he looks too evil. I never did suessical they did it the year after I left school I did do Oliver, Annie, Pippin, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Grease, and Bye Bye Birdie. ---------- I agree that religion could be studied from a purely secular standpoint and it would be fine. I also think that religion other wise should be left out of schools (and also politics......but thats never going to happen.) |
I agree with you both.
You can talk about religion and not be preaching it. In fact, I think it can be a good thing to understand that religion has caused many things, and to know a little about the different religions of the different places. I mean, pretty much all of our history is driven by religion in some way or another, so its hard to just leave it out of stuff. |
I guess I might be moving sometime soon. Like, within the next couple of months. It all depends on whether or not my dad can make up his mind or not.
|
Seiki is moving?! =O To where now?
|
Well Good luck with that.....moving is a hassel.
|
I hate moving. :/
I also agree that religion should be taught in schools, but nonsecularly. Religion plays a huge role in a TON of historical events, so it would be hard to teach any history without also including aspects of religion. Plus, religion is interesting! Why not teach children about the beliefs of the world's people? There are so many religions and so many different beliefs. It's not as if a teacher has to push those beliefs onto others -- just educate students about them. I have a friend who's an art teacher. She had her middle school kids draw/color mandalas, and she mentioned that they are an important part of Buddhism and Hinduism. I guess some parent was all up in arms about the fact that they did this project, and wanted to be sure his (or her) kid wasn't being preached to about religions that weren't Christianity... Now, I'm not sure how the same parent would feel if his child was doing Christian art or something, but I'm going to assume that he wouldn't be nearly as offended. Ah, the joys of living in the midwest... |
I once told a kid at a summer camp that I was a counselor for that I was meditating. The kid (who was like 8) informed me that meditating was the devil's work.
|
Seriously!? Parents totally brainwash their children nowadays.
The hardcore/reborn Christian community really scares me. |
Yes. It is quite scary.
And to think, Sizz, that our state isn't even the worst of it :gonk: And I've lived outside of the "big" cities! I can't imagine that it gets worse than Missouri small towns, but apparently it does. |
Oh, I lived in Oklahoma for two years. It was MUCH worse there than anywhere else I've lived. It's the "Bible Buckle" to me. XP
