I have my doubts as well about activity picking up at the moment.
The staff have to do something to encourage users to join and remain active after they've done that and they need it quickly. The site is dying, little by little.
It would be weird if Menewsha died. I've been on an avie site (first Gaia, then Menewsha) for seven or eight years. But I'm at the point in my life where if Mene dies, I'm not going to join a different avie site. That's just something that would leave my life. And while I'd miss the people on Mene, odds are the ones I really care about I'd contact in some other way. I don't think I'd actually miss the site itself.
I'll have to agree with you there Cami. I've been on avi sites since i was 17, i'm now 25. If mene dies i don't think i'll continue with the avi site scene. It's just too much effort to start again lol.
I'd do the exact same thing Roachi. I'll cry a bazillion salty tears and then be "forced" to go back to the evil WoW MMO with the 10.00 I'd no long be spending on mene. T.T I'd hate for my quest to come so far and get so close to owning all the old CI's + EI's just to have it close. Or even if this happens a year down the line and I manage to some how get them all.
I don't even want to think about that happening. I don't know what I'd do with myself.
It really is a lot of effort to start from scratch. I've been with it for seven years as well, and yeah, I'm probably done with them after Mene dies or if I leave before it does. I start school next fall and when that happens, I don't think I'll have the time to do anything avatar site related anymore, or if I do, it's going to be maybe a minute to come on and check messages here and there. I really do like Mene. The people here are great, and I do love me some commons as you all know. But it gets exhausting sometimes trying to keep up with it when its this slow.

I think the thought of mene dieing is really not something I ever thought about until Inso made that announcement a while back. Now I think about it often....and its almost like watching it die before our eyes. It makes me sad. I will be with mene until it dies....however.....I do not think I would join another after that fact. I was a member of gaia in 2003....so yeah....7 years o.0. Been a member of gaia, magivolve, solia, zantarni, and here......and given that here is the only place I have ever made friends that I would care about after the fact.....I dont think I would ever go somewhere else. After mene.......my avatar days are over.
I'm glad to see such a positive attitude from everyone. :3 Gives me warm-fuzzies. Sure it makes new people feel like when they join, they're joining something that'll only grow!
Yeah i'm a member on a lot of sites. But mene is the only one that i frequent daily and hang about on ALL day long xD. I really hope it never dies, and i'll try my best to help the site stay alive! I'd love to donate money all the time, but sadly i've got too many bills and stuff, but i do try when i got spare cash. If i ever won lotto i'd def donate a heap xD. Maybe they should have another referral contest or something?
I'm going to have to agree with Ro on this one - This is the only site I stay on all day long. I wish I did win the lotto! I would donate then - Till then! I just try to continues to post so things stay active!
CK: We all love this site. You know that. We're the regulars who spend half our days checking threads. We want it to grow and prosper and be awesome.
But just wanting something to happen doesn't make it happen. And one little conversation among friends, in our thread that new people rarely visit, isn't going to scare people away. We're not going anywhere. We're just worried the site is. If we're wrong, awesome.
I wouldn't worry about the site until we've tried a few of the new event styles and that still doesn't help. xD;
Every site goes through lull periods. I can't remember the last time Insomniac paid for advertising somewhere, so we aren't getting fresh floods of newbies like we do when we run a TekTek or Facebook ad. A lot of our 'core' users have gotten to the points in their lives where school, work, parenthood and/or financial issues have stepped in and made them spend less time on the site or have to leave the site. Since core users are most familiar with core users, when they see their friends leaving or spending less time on the site, they feel like the site is not as active as it used to be. (It doesn't help when you're an Avatar Chat regular and/or don't venture out much outside a few specific threads as I'm pretty sure some of you don't. AC and established threads are difficult for newer users to work up the courage to set foot into and stick around in.)
It's very true that at the moment we're in one of those 'lull' periods. But I feel like we're on the threshold of a new era of the site. It's just the waiting period before "the next thing" comes along.
I won't lie and say that this waiting period isn't going to seem like there's a drought, though. But when I hear 'core' users talk about how they feel like the site is dying, it does worry me because I'd really like them to stay interested in the site and experience the next stage of the site's growth. Without you guys, when that new growth starts happening, the site's culture will change dramatically as people who aren't the usual sort of avatar site users come in with their own internet culture backgrounds. And without a core group of our old members, that culture may change into a site I won't feel as excited about working with.
Seiki, I think I'll have to pull my judging application. It's getting late in the year and I don't want to have to drop out in the middle of the cycle if it runs very far into next year. Sorry! :C
@CK- Just because the lull worried me doesn't mean I am going anywhere. Like I previously stated I will be with you guys until the day you die (Or I do, but lets not think like that xP). I have friends here who I would still keep in contact with after the fact. Thats not something I can say about gaia or any of the others. Menewsha is my internet home, and if the new events bring in hoards of new users who help the site more and more then I feel that is GREAT. I don't WANT to see you guys die. And your comment actually made me feel a bit better about the whole situation.
And Trust me, I welcome new users but let me see them try and change us into something we are not *waves fist in a angry style*

Key, awe, I understand. I was actually thinking about doing a shorter cycle with fewer contestants, but I think I might have to postpone as well. It seems like work is getting busy again and they just upped my hours again.
