Because it sounds counter-intuitive to me, and in all honesty, it should not matter -- you're in school, you obviously are bettering yourself, the state should see it as an investment into the future and if students had to work less on the condition of focusing on educating themselves, they shouldn't be making arbitrary rules.

I just never have been a fan of bureaucracy...

Yeah.

I don't understand it either. But it may be because private schools call their own shots. Which is why we go to classes on days that public schools do not and vice versa. We are also a women's college, which if we were public, that would no longer be the case because public schools cannot be discriminatory. The only men that are allowed as students can only be in the adult degree program.

Very interesting. So how's it like to go to an all (or mostly) woman's college? What inspired you to go there? Was it because it was a women's college or was it the program they had?

It's one of the best school's around here for one. Also, close enough to commute too. And it does have a good studio art program. It's only like twenty minutes away and in the same city where the place I work at is (and is actually in walking distance provided you actually want to deal with the steep hills).

I'm also in the adult degree program...mainly because I was too late to register for the women's residency (although, I wouldn't have lived on campus anyway). With the adult degree program, as long as you are 19 and hold an associate's degree or at least 21, you can enter and the due date for applications to join the college are up until like two to three weeks before the semester starts. And as 21 with an associates and being female, I could have gone with either program. Also, with the adult degree program, you CAN take online classes and off campus classes which you can do neither one of those things if you are in the women's residency program.

I actually hadn't planned on transferring there last semester from the community college I was at because I was still working on my web design certificate there but my grandparents wanted me out because three years is WAY to long to be at a community college. -_- But I was able to complete my associates degree with the classes you need to transfer with that will automatically get you into the college of your choice within the state if they have a contract with them, my general education certificate (which I didn't know they had until they reviewed my courses to make sure I did the classes I need to get the diplomas I wanted and they sent me the form to get that), and I have my certificate in graphic design. But I still need my web design certificate! I had like three or four more classes that I needed to get that too!

But, I like the environment it is in. And it is a lovely campus and the professors I have had so far are great and very nice and helpful. Although, my grandparents are pissed again about that now because I "should only be there for two years to be done." :/ WRONGO! They changed the program when I went in last semester. I still have completed most stuff, but there are still a few classes I need to take for the college. Then of course my major related classes in which mine is studio art. And I have two emphases and the teacher (who is the only one who teaches the one class) won't be here in spring 2012...so...I will finish a semester later than planned...but oh well, I don't mind...except for when my grandparents complain.

I think it is an official job for Grandparents to complain -- I know my grandma complains of things that make my jaw drop, but honestly, I would be devastated if she was any other way. :XD

The campus you describe does sound lovely -- and it's great if it's close by...

I'm glad that it is close by. It's actually closer than the community college I was going to as well. So it doesn't take as much gas to get there either which is another plus.

The only downside the campus has is the hills and stairs. XD

Yeah...I believe so too. I changed my major so many times because of them, then I just stopped and went back to my studio art which is what I wanted. They really hated that idea until I told them one of my emphases was photography. My grandfather is a retired professional photographer...and I know she wants me to clean out their dark room so I can use it...and I'm like...umm...there's one on campus...(although it would be nice not to have to drive all the way to campus to use it when it is not during class)...and their dark room is basically a storage unit now of stuff...how am I supposed to clean it without you yelling at me about "that's not supposed to go there!" all the time?

My first photography class will actually be this fall. I've only managed to mainly take classes for my drawing emphasis...but I have taken the history of photography class (which happened to be during the same time as photography 1 last semester... :/) And I do have my senior project in drawing in the fall as well. :)

Oh, I love photography! I took one course in it just because the school was literally right next door to my house. It was before digital cameras took over; so it was really fun to use the dark room. They started us out doing photograms, and we got to play around with light and textures to make pictures. I wish I could have taken more, but it didn't work out that way.

Having your own dark room would be way cool, though -- all the quiet and dark would be so soothing...

Ah. Photography. I like to do it as a hobby, myself. Last summer I carried my camera around with me everywhere I went and took pictures of flowers, trees, interesting people and building structures.

The walls of my house are now covered with those pictures. It makes me smile every time I see one.

It truly is a beautiful art form -- it's amazing how you can add your own spin to reality with it to say a whole lot more than you would think was possible...

Mhmm. I love the fact that it gives you the ability to show people how you see the world through your own eyes. Being able to show someone that magic exists right in front of them if they're willing to look a little differently...well, that's what I live for.

Exactly how I feel. I also love black and white photography as well -- it just shows a certain kind of essence that I get...

I do a lot of nature photography, flowers and such, so I love the emotion that color brings through in the pieces. I love contrast between light and dark, neon and pastel...black and white is gorgeous too. Whenever I draw I tend to do so in graphite because I feel like it's so much easier to show expressions and feelings through the shades of gray than it is through color.

I love taking pictures of the sky and of alleyways -- people tend to always want to pose to project an image, and I don't really like that...

Mhmm. I'm always hiding and finding unique ways to take pictures because I hate it when people realize that they're getting their photo taken...they either hide completely or they (like you said) pose, and it absolutely ruins the shot.

And some of the poses are just not good for a picture. I prefer candids for that reason as well -- people also tend to tighten muscles when they know the camera is there...

I love doing nature photography as well. And animals. :D

I LOATHE photographing people. I only do it at like parties or hanging with friends or like things like Civil War Reenactments and Renaissance Faires/Festivals but then that's what the people are there for basically. :D

I've only had a digital photography class and that was at my community college. I had to take it to get my graphic design certificate. But it turns out, that class I might be able to use at my college now instead of having to take photography 3. :D I have to show the guy my portfolio from that class so he can decide (also he is the head of the art department so he's the only one I have to talk to about it and not have to take photography 3...hopefully. XD)

Well that would be cool. I think I'm a bit too lazy to take photography classes. Yeah, it's fun for some people... but i'm not as big of a picture nerd as a lot of the people I know. I have a digital camera I use to take pictures of my kid and my family and friends and stuff, but that's about it. Other than that... well... eh. I used to like it when I was younger, now there's a lot more things I'd rather be doing. *shruggs*

I don't mind taking pictures -- my mom makes jewelry, so I have to snap all those. I wish I was more comfortable with film -- my camera is a duo one, but I end up with stills...

I am watching a Wipeout rerun right now -- it looks like something from first season -- less sadistic than usual...

I have never heard of Wipeout.

I'm currently on facebook, here, and Subeta. I actually signed onto farmville after two months because a thing about a second farm popped up on mafia wars. XD

Don't play FB games -- the only one I ever played for a while was Bejeweled Blitz -- if I want online games, I play Minoto games...
