uh, Southern English woman has to move with her family to this northern English factory town when her father leaves his position as a clergy man out of principal.... she butts heads with this "brutish" factory owner/gentleman over various differences including a strike that all the workers go on (happened A LOT then.... and they were often violent in the end) annnd he falls in love with her, she rejects his proposal of marriage...laaadeee daa dee daaa......a serious of crappy things happen to her (and him) but eventually she comes to inherit a whole bunch of money just as his cotton mill goes under. She comes back, is like hey, look...money! and he is just like..... YOU!
