There's Paint.Net

I prefer it over Gimp

Rad Lionheart 05-28-2010 11:40 PM

GIMP is good if you're using Linux on an under powered machine, but there's much more available that works much better.
Personally, for free windows apps, I would choose Paint.net rather than the port of GIMP.

Shadami 05-28-2010 11:41 PM

my gimp stopped working ... grrr

Xylia 05-28-2010 11:43 PM

Paint.net is free o.O (Never heard paint.net)

sadrain 05-28-2010 11:44 PM

Oh I see Mermaid. I still remember your artsus. <3 Welcome back to Mene. ^^

Rad Lionheart 05-28-2010 11:44 PM

Yes Paint.net is free, and it works quite well and is always getting updated.

LadyKnightSkye 05-28-2010 11:44 PM

Hum, never heard of Paint.net. Maybe I should try it since I'm on a Windows system. Thanks!

MermaidUnderSea 05-28-2010 11:45 PM

It's just like MSPaint... but with layers O_O

Xylia 05-28-2010 11:45 PM

I'll check it out and ask if I can download it. (Fiance's computer xD ) I'll tell him if I like it I'll get rid of Gimp...he should let me :/

The only thing I don't like about gimp is the long loading when it first starts up :/

Rad Lionheart 05-28-2010 11:46 PM

No it's not like MSPaint, it's much higher quality. XD
It's more like a less extensive Photoshop.

MermaidUnderSea 05-28-2010 11:47 PM

It still has the same tools though

LadyKnightSkye 05-28-2010 11:47 PM

I see. No matter what, it still sounds promising.

Lord Orpheus 05-28-2010 11:48 PM

Hello everyone! I should really get one of those nifty banners for my signature. There are some nice ones out there. ^_^

MermaidUnderSea 05-28-2010 11:49 PM

Yes, they are nifty

sadrain 05-28-2010 11:50 PM

Gimp is nice. D: At least for the basics of stuff. And for learning, like I must learn, it is quite fitting. ^^

Rad Lionheart 05-28-2010 11:51 PM

I've done some art in GIMP while I had been using Mandriva Linux as my primary OS. (Long story.)

Now I use SAI, Painter, and Sketchbook Pro.
Often times I use Oekaki boards too.

Lord Orpheus 05-28-2010 11:52 PM

I'm artistically challenged and don't have the patience for doing doodling on the computer. So I admire anyone with that kind of patience/ability. ^_^;

Xylia 05-28-2010 11:52 PM

I need to get a drawing pad to do what I really want to do :/

LadyKnightSkye 05-28-2010 11:52 PM

A friend has Sai and she showed me how to use it. I'm actually contemplating saving up the money to buy it.

Rad Lionheart 05-28-2010 11:53 PM

I can't seem to draw at all today though. :C

SAI is awesome, I use it for my lineart.

Shadami 05-28-2010 11:53 PM

*stares* wait.... OH gimp never worked for me at all and my trial on sai ran up. XD

MermaidUnderSea 05-28-2010 11:53 PM

I used to use Photoshop for my art, but since my tablet pen became retarded, I use Corel Painter

LadyKnightSkye 05-28-2010 11:53 PM

Yeah, Lynzel uses SAI for her linearts. She's gotten pretty good at using it.

exedust 05-28-2010 11:53 PM

never heard of paint.net :O going to try downloading it now...

Rad Lionheart 05-28-2010 11:54 PM

I don't use Photoshop anymore, haven't for a long time.
If I really need it for effects, I've got master collection CS3 somewhere.

Normally I just install Soundbooth though.
