Hm, I guess that if Gaia created more of a gold sink instead of making everything purchasable by cash, things would improve. I don't know if they still have an economist on staff, but they did a year ago, some Ph.D. student. I don't think much of him, I confess, if it's gotten this bad and he's still working for them.

That so call economist are no good. Most of the users know better than him.
The main reason be, he is an economist in real world. But Gaia is different. Age gap is different. Psychology different. The need to survive are not as hard as real world.

By having a banking system which offers interest, you create a quantity of money which is not available to be spent on the market. Inflation is caused when more money is offered for goods and services which no incentive not to spend the money. In other words, the only for making money on Gaia is to spend it; there are no controls on the spending and no reason to not spend the money.

Let's say you invest your money in some invented Gaia thing, like a Towns feature, and it gives you a 3% interest -- that means you're not going to spend the amount you invested on a single item. Gaia gives no incentive to save.

Interest is an amount based on a specific percentage of the whole--in this case gaia gold. In the real world, banks in the US pay interest to people who put money in the bank (Savings Accounts) and charge interest for people for money that they borrow money from the bank (Loans).
