Dutch is the language I grew up with, so that's hard to say. English... I'd say that I am fluent for three or four years now, even if I still learn new words from time to time.

German is close enough to Dutch that I always had a fairly good understanding of it, learnt some at school, still learn new things often, usually online.
Ancient Greek and Latin... hard to say. Had both for about four years, though I feel I only actually learnt things during the first two to three. My understanding of French is a mix of what I recognize from other languages (mostly Latin) and what I learnt in school for about two years.
Spanish, Italian and Portugese is mainly based on my knowledge of Latin and French.

Czech, Slovenian and Hungarian (of which I know just a few words each) is mainly stuff I picked up during holidays. Finnish and Icelandic is mostly from music, though in case of the latter, it also has a minor resemblance to Dutch and some to Norwegian.

Norwegian I do mostly on instinct, hence me being unable to actively use it - I just recognize a lot of words because they're similar to their latin/dutch/english/german counterparts.

True. Most of the Europian languages are connected through German and/or Latin roots, although the Slavic-group of languages is a somewhat different case, as are most East-Europian languages. Finnish and Hungarian are somewhat connected to each other, but bear little to no connection to most other languages, making it much harder to learn them.

Yeah, well, depending on the direction you're going in, you can sometimes have crossed five borders and yet have gone over less distance than it would take you to cross some States. xD So you kind of are very aware of the amount of languages around you.
