Sorry, I'm back now.

I don't believe in hitting kids, because they see it as "Well, mommy and daddy see it as ok and do it, so that means I can too." Hitting is never the answer no matter what. Because kids learn from those around them.

@Livi- that's okay. :) I understand and respect your opinion. I honestly think a few spanks is necessary. My siblings and I were hit a lot and we grew up fine. (I'm not trying to say you're wrong or you should change your opinion!)

@Desi- awesome!! xD

I agree, I love trying new recipes. Arinia found a recipe for, I believe it was sour cream apple pie, it sounded interesting but tasted so freakin good.

@ Livi - Well "playful hitting" tends to teach them that... I didn't grow up hitting people... and I got my butt beat a lot... so idk where that theory comes from honestly ^^"

What would you do with a kid that throws utter screaming tantrums and wont stop no matter what you say?
One swat... that's really all it takes. It's bad to me when a parent takes their anger out on the kid.

With Becca, when she throws tantrums, we just ignore her, and don't give her attention so she doesn't see throwing tantrums as a way to get mummy or daddy's attention. We keep her in eyesight, but don't acknowledge her.

What kids want, most of the time, with tantrums, is attention, so don't give them the attention they're craving, and they'll calm down, on their own, eventually. Breaks my heart, but sometimes that's just what one has to do. =[

Even if play hitting is just playful, I don't see it as nice. When she hits one of us, we grab her hand and we look at her and go "No sweetie. That's not nice." Firm, but not yelling or being mean. I used to work at a daycare and those who were spanked, typically were the ones who acted out and were more likely to go after more kids and hit them... just speaking from experience there. And I don't want my daughter to be one of those kids.

But everyone is different, that's just how I believe in parenting my daughter.

@ Livi - that is true... though I remember one mother that gave the kid exactly what they wanted... and it backfired on the kid. She was throwing a temper tantrum screaming and yelling so the mother said "Hey everyone, I think ___ wants your attention". XD went silent and got really embarassed. Never happened again XD

That is a way of stopping the tantrums. But Becca doesn't do them that often, but we've not totally gotten there yet though. She's only 14 1/2 months old. So we'll see how things go.

I see. I was raiser waaay different. -_- My Dad would even hit us with a belt. I like your method of raising, and it's not like you're letting her do what she wants. When my little brother throws tantrums, we also ignore him because like you said, he just wants attention. My Dad doesn't use the belt anymore! :I

I know Rebecca will grow to be a smart sweetheart! :3

FIRST KILL!
today is an unhappy day for our RANDOMACTSofKINDNESS hangout threadies.
it is with great sadness that hummy informs you all that,
while walking home our dear, sweet, newly engaged Maria-Minamino:♥ was hit by a flying squirrel!
Maria-Minamino must have had her head in the clouds thinking of her upcoming nuptials,
or possible she was admiring her beautiful new engagement ring that her fiancé` had just given her.
the squirrel was a black Japanese squirrel and he was attracted to Maria-Minamino's beautiful red hair.

the squirrel hit Maria-Minamino with such force he knocked her clean off of her feet!
she flew into the air a good three feet,
landing horribly and meeting her demise quickly,
feeling absolutely no pain.
such a tragic accident and leading her wedding planning to become her memorial service.
at least Maria-Minamino won't have to stress out over the planning of said service.
mourner's are asked to dress all in red, Maria-Minamino's favorite color, to show our love.
post your favorite music songs or lyrics to celebrate the new music teacher, Maria-Minamino's life.
the children Maria-Minamino was teaching will truly miss her.
hopefully her passionate love of music will change their lives for the better.
they plan to sings Maria-Minamino's favorite song at her memorial service.
her children hope everyone will sing along and feel the love!
please stop by Maria-Minamino's profile and comment her.
she is our very first victim of our ASSASSIN'S CONSPIRACY GAME!
WE LOVE YOU, MARIA-MINAMINO!
*hummy looks up to the clouds*

SECOND VICTIM FALLS!!
hummy comes to you, again, bearing horrific news about, yet, another menewshain we have loved and lost.
Chikyu seems to be an avid artist/crafter/and all around handy Chickie.
while hotgluing a monkie together Chikyu accidentally set her art studio on fire!
when they pulled her melted and charred body from her studio,
she had her newly fashioned monkie hotglued to her full and poutie lips.

Chikyu♥Chikie had aspirations of becoming a veterinarian.
we are grrateful the mad hotglued monkie was there to keep Chickie company during her demise.
such a young and talented Chikie melted much too early.
please post our beloved Chickie some loving thoughts
and let her know how much she will be missed.
knowing Chikie loved animals so much please drop her a profile comment.
*tosses peanuts*
with love, monkie fashion.
Chikyu: will be added to our 'fallen dearly departed' list.
we will miss you, Chikie, may you rest in peace.
*bows head and listens to taps*

I'm just going with how my parents raised me. =] My mum is one strong woman - she raised four of us - my elder brother, my twin and I and then our younger sister. =]
And tantrums usually are about wanting attention. xD

She definitely loves being in the spotlight now.

@ Livi - just a little more before the terrible twos... XD

Personally I have no children... but I raised about 16 cats... and lets just say... some of them... especially the mother... had some issues... shouting and such did nothing, ignoring it made it worse, and when I finally buckled down to swatting her she stopped being a total brat so often.

@ Hummy - Well I believe that a single swat as a last resort is the only reasonable punishment... me? I got 6-7 (sometimes more) swats with a wooden spoon... o.o and I'm really skinny so most of them hit bone...

My brother's daughter though o.o she ASKS to be spanked...

A single swat makes that a "punishment" repetitive makes it lack of control of the parent's anger...

i have never put my hands on anyone in anger.
my father is an alcholoic and believes you can beat something into someone,
even at the young age of five!
the only thing i know it does is make a person terrified of their own father!
