The roles of men and women in the workforce have changed greatly in recent years. More women are working and more men are staying home with the children. Another change is, it is more acceptable for to be Nurses and women to be Police Officers. More men have jobs in construction, firefighting and landscaping; whereas more women have jobs as Nurses, Teachers and Secretaries.
There are several different reasons that the roles of men and women in the workforce have changed. One reason would be that more women are working while the men stay home with the children. Women have more opportunities now and make more money than their husbands. Thus, the men do not have to work and become stay at home fathers. Another way the roles have changed is that it is more acceptable for men to be nurses and women to be police officers. One reason men are becoming nurses could be that the medical field is growing. As the baby boomer generation grows older, there is more demand for health care, therefore creating more jobs; construction jobs are in decline due to the recent recession. A reason why women are becoming Police officers could be because women in custody would feel more comfortable with a woman officer. Police departments would rather have a woman officer search a woman in custody.
More men choose careers in construction, firefighting and landscaping. A reason why more men do these jobs could be because it is dangerous and hard work. Men enjoy dangerous work because they enjoy using the power tools. They enjoy the hard work because of the feeling of satisfaction when they are finished.
More women choose careers in nursing, teaching and as secretaries. Women are more caring and personable, making these jobs easy for them. Women are also nurturing, which is a good trait to have in these fields of work. Nurses, teachers and secretaries are around people often, and most women love to be around other people.
As time goes on, we will see many more changes in the roles of men and women in the workforce. There will be more of an even amount of each gender in every career.

@Lon: In the first paragraph you need to add in the word men when talking about nurses and women police officers. :) Also, you could talk about the equality act which makes it illegal for companies not to hire people based on their gender?

oopsie... LOL!! i fixed it, i had it like that on my rough draft but typed it really fast. you know me.. always in a hurry! hmm that is a good point, as i did think about women rights and all that but hubby thought that it would go along with my essay.

We have to wear gloves in the lab all the time or face the wrath of demonstrators.

I'll have to choose which pair of goggles to wear on my shouty rampage.
