Can you see your story after the month is up or is it best to write it in a word document and paste it in there?

Oh, they don't want you to write on the site - best to write in a word document, and save it in multiple places so if you lose it from one place, it won't be lost. If that makes sense?

Oh, it's totally fine - I was confused by it as well when I started last year. =]

When it comes to validate your novel (or just update your word count) - you can go to My NaNoWriMo -> Edit Novel Info, and there will be a button there that you can push that says

I am ready to validate my novel (Winning begins November 25!)

And you can use that before the 25th to get the word count, or put it in manually at the top in the counter. =]
But to win, if you have hit 50k and it is after the 25th, you put it into the Validator on the site, and it counts it, but they do not keep your novel - the site gets rid of it so you are the only person to have a copy of your novel. Does that makes sense?
