volunteering at the art gallery across the street from my apartment and hanging out with a couple friends who own shops here and crocheting like an old lady, other than that, nothing...trying to get on a computer with usable internet is always a challenge.

That actually sounds pretty good to me. You're at least doing stuff you want to do, if you're volunteering for it.
